I get emails all the time from people with Access issues. All of the problems and questions from many of you have inspired me to start this: the Access Debugging and Troubleshooting Checklist.
I know I've pulled my hair out with strange Access problems that sometimes seemed to get fixed by the strangest things. I went nuts one day trying to fix a bug and it turned out I just needed to reboot the PC. Low system resources can cause any number of problems, including forms not opening, reports not printing right, crashes, etc.
So, here's my list of troubleshooting tips when you've got that Access problem that just will NOT go away. I have tried to rank these in the order you should check. The least painful fixes (quick and easy) are first. Try each one in order. If that doesn't work, move on to the next one.

If compact/repair won't fix it, and you don't have a backup, your only chance it to try a recovery service. I recommend www.everythingaccess.com/

Hello, I can't open my database file, and getting, "Not a valid bookmark" error. My desktop lost power and shut down unexpected. When I booted back up the file won't open. I can't compact or repair the database because it won't open. Is there a way to fix my problem? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you run down the complete checklist on my troubleshooter page including the part where you create a new blank database file and import all of the objects from the old one?

Hi, first of all, I thank you for your help in splitting my database. It has been working a treat for a few months. However, following deleting a record and I could not gain entry to the form on the front end (ACCDE file). I then compacted the master database, created a new ACCDE file onto my network. This allowed me to get into the form but the records are now really out of sink (by ID) on the Master and ACCDE files. It seems that I may have corrupted the file when I deleted the record?? Is there any simple fix to get my form aligned to the query of which it is tied to? Any advice would very much appreciated.

I have several database running in our office division since 2015 which I'd created it from most of your lesson tutorial. But now I'm feeling hopeless due to the recent McAfee update Security runs by I.T during the weekend affected all my MS access database. The problem is it CAN NOT use a multiple user, it only allowed ONE User to use the database and the error is " FILE IS ALREADY USE"
can you help me sir what shall I do to correct this. I tried some of those trouble shooting like create new dtabase and compact and repair and update antivirus provided by our I.T. security, but the problem still not fix. pls. help me.
