    It’s almost uncanny how much this sounds like a real song released between ‘85 and ‘87. The bombastic-yet-artificial brass fanfare, the sickly-sweet keyboard twinkle, and the ABC-esque bass guitar sound almost _exactly_ like the sounds of the Stock Aitken Waterman production team.

    I remember where I was, when I first heard this. I was a Soviet Communication Trooper serving in East Germany back in 1986, stationed in the Soviet embassy in East Berlin. Gorbachev announced Glasnost and Perestroika, my wife and children were traveling the different republics on a long vacation, it really seemed like things were getting better, it looked as though life started to have hope. I was standing outside, when I heard a catchy tune, and and the unforgettable voice of Katy Perry, blasting out of the tinny speakers of a well taken care of Trabant 601. I thought to myself - wow, what is this song? I had brought a west German radio inside the embassy and managed to find a pop radio station after some time. The song came on quite often!

    Wonder how she's doing now. What a hit she was. Teenage me was positively in love with her - played firework on repeat all the time. Wish someone would upload her "Roar" or "Never Really Over." Can't find them online for the life of me! Know I've got them on a mixtape my ex-girlfriend made for me... just wish I could find it. Eh. She was a true 80s hit. Think I heard something about her living in Cincinnati now or whatever?

    I was a college student back in 1984 at the University of Miami, and this song had JUST come out! The summer Olympics were almost upon us, and everything was perfect! One warm night in late June, my roommate and I were in Coconut Grove on the beach celebrating her sister’s 18th birthday… and that’s when I laid eyes on Albert, my now-husband! This song was playing the moment our eyes met, and within 8 months we were married! You can bet we played this at our wedding!!! 6 kids and 4 grandkids later, me and my Big Al are still together! Sadly, Katy Perry would be gone too soon. I’ll never forget the magazines and papers that day, when she died in a plane crash in Colorado in the winter of 2000, at the young age of 42. America and the rest of the world lost an icon that day. My eldest daughter is named after Katy all because of this song! RIP

    • @TRONICBOX
      @TRONICBOX  8 лет назад +18

      Doubling their parts with other instruments always helps. I'm doubling the Keys on two strats. Plus I've got a sneaky acoustic piano bedding it as well so that probably helps. The "Cheese Brass" is from Kontakt 5. It's actually a digital toy sound called "rapman" from their "vintage" library.

    • @JairCrawford
      @JairCrawford 8 лет назад +3

      +TRONICBOX Oh nice! Yeah the one sound I feel like I have had some success with is that 80's Rhodes sound, but I have it doubled. Tripled, actually. E. Piano 1 + Fulltines from Dx7 + Yamaha Acoustic Piano from Logic and I get what they evidently used to call the L.A. Piano from the 80's. It sounds like drowning in the 80s lol. I love it. I'm gonna try doubling some of the other synth patches and see what I can get from it!
