    Hi, I have the Mini 2 and I pack it in my Osprey Archeon chest rig for my motorcycle travels (mostly off-road).
    Makes for quick access and access to a few other bits.
    If it begins to rain a lot though, I put the rig in my waterproof bags or under my rainjacket - depending on circumstances.
    Cheers 🤙

      That's the way to go in my opinion, especially on trail! I have a larger rain jacket to be able to go over my chest rig also for the very same reason! Thanks for joining the conversation!! 🤜🤛

    I love my drone also. It’s nice to have a small one that fits in the backpack. I have the DJI Mavic Air. I really want my license because that is where it is going. Recently I have not been able to fly it because it has been raining or super windy. Love how Rugged Mountain Mister is just hanging out in the back. These are great tips. I like the time it takes to get the drone up. I have never been brave to fly or catch by hand. One of my friends did it from a hot air balloon.

      Ya I'm starting to see the writing on the wall too and it would just be easier to get the license! Gotta save up $150 for the test and another $150 or so if you want to take a course to prep for it! Mavic air is a great done by all counts in familiar with!! WOAH from a balloon? That's some mad skills there! I'm trying to get better but don't get a ton of flight time! Thanks Carl!! 🤜🤛

    This is a lot of work! If Justin wants to bring the drone, when we had a drone that worked, I make him decide what to bring and how to pack it, because it a pain! But I love the footage!

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Yup! I already used a chest rig for my gimbal and everything while hiking. With a few recent upgrades I was able to make a little more room in there to fit the drone and its controller. I know several backpackers that use the DJI mini and mini 2 so I was hoping this could be helpful to them.... just gotta watch out for those trees... they'll jump out and get ya!!

    Super thorough video bud! You covered pretty much everything. I have my 107 for commercial work. We rarely use it on trails now since we felt like we would be bothering other hikers. There was only one lake hike we did this summer we felt like we wouldn't be a nuisance if we flew it....but we forgot to bring it. 😂 Now we mainly use the drone for driving footage. Are the trails uncrowded where you go in Indiana?

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Depends on where you go of course but ya they are pretty crowded generally speaking. One really needs to go when its SUPER hot or cold, it is way more sparse then. Problem is that drones are not aloud in pretty much all DNR run properties... which is most of them in Indiana. I'm not sure I understand the rational. Even if they made you just get a permit or something that would curb a lot of flyers I think. I'll probably just go ahead and get the 107 at some point just so I don't have to worry about it anymore! Thanks for checking in!! :-)

    No drone needs to be reg’d with the FAA. If your drone is over 250g you have to reg YOURSELF. You have to have a UAS pilot ID, the drone you fly is irrelevant, if it’s over weight it has to bear your personal FAA ID (I have 7 drones over 250g, the FAA doesn’t care how many or what they are, they are “registered” by me writing my FAAID on the bottom… which is actually a better method for identifying them as mine than writing my name/address on the bottom. I label ALL my drones with my FAAID, no matter how small, so that if I lose one, someone might find it who knows what that # is and I might actually get it back). It’s mainly to guarantee that you won’t do something stupid like fly your drone into a 747 or something, if you can be identified by your drone you fly more responsibly.
    The ID is $5 every three years and there’s no test, it’s just an online form and you’re not giving them any info they (the government) doesn’t already have about you, it just proves that you are you. if you’re into drones it’s well worth it to be able to fly any drone you get. It also gives a little credibility when ignorant Karen’s harass you about flying a drone. Whipping out an FAA ID card makes you seem pretty legit to someone so ignorant they’re afraid of drones in the first place.

      Great comment! When i started looking into things i thought it was... not a simple thing to find information that i could be sure was valid. I don't think i know much even now! I thought the sub 250g done would have less... red tape involved but more importantly it's ahrckbof alot easier to backpack with!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a great comment!!

    • @RyanGr33n
      @RyanGr33n Год назад

      @@DMSAdventures I always have a drone with me! I agree, the sub-250 models are the way to go if you’re backpacking, but ever since that rule came about, all the drone companies have been pushing to make their products smaller and lighter to avoid that “barrier to entry”, just as DJI has done with the Mavic line. You can get phenomenal machines now that are half the ‘registration’ weight, and half the cost of what they were two or three years ago.
      Side note: the FAA also recently began ‘requiring’ the TRUST test for all drone pilots, even recreational pilots with underweight drones… honestly it’s just another barrier-to-entry, to discourage people from getting into the hobby, but it’s very simple and easy (and free). I would recommend getting an FAAID and passing the TRUST test, “just in case” anyone ever gives you a hard time about flying. Showing a bystander or a police officer that you ARE registered with the FAA and you HAVE passed your safety course will go a long way toward calming people down. ;)

    Do you do anything to protect your gimbal from bouncing around while hiking when stored in your pack?

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  27 дней назад

      Do you mean the gimbal/camera of the drone? If so, yes. The Mini 2 has a plastic protector that goes over the gimbal/camera when not in use. If not, just let me know! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

    • @ryannorris11
      @ryannorris11 27 дней назад

      @@DMSAdventures Yes, I should have clarified. Even with the protector over the drone's gimbal/camera I was wondering if it may bounce around and over time get damaged. I was wondering if putting a piece of foam or something to keep it steady may help. I bought a mini pro 3 and am interested in taking it out but at the same time want to be safe with it.

    • @DMSAdventures

      @ryannorris11 That's a great drone!! You do what you think you need to to keep it safe but not only have I taken it on multiple backpacking trips with no problems, I also was flying it around my house (cause I thought I was a good pilot!!) And crashed it into a door jam! The gimbal came unseated. I snapped it back into place and it was fine! I think they are pretty robust!
