Very nice compact setup! I for one am a fan. I feel the drone footage does so much to give both the lay of the land and a real sense of the majesty of these environments where you do your adventuring. Adds a whole other dimension.

I used to use an S8 and it worked great. The S8 had a problem and I'm not sure it will work with the drone (I need to try it , it has Wifi and Signalling issues but if the GPS is working maybe it would still work ?) . I bought a newer phone called an A-13 Samsung. DJI software said it wasn't' compatible so I'm at a stage not know what's next ! I watch a lot of Sailing Videos and you wouldn't believe what those guys have to think about ! If they are moving they can't sail out of the "range from takeoff" of the drone or have to set it up so it doesn't matter. And many other crazy problems. I've decided to set up a large very solid metal box in the back of my truck or somewhere where it can be mounted and be impossible to remove (like a safe). I've had things stolen from me, radios, and losing a drone would be terrible ! We are targets ! Lots of predators out there now days . Be careful. HEY, and I just checked my S8 with no wifi or cell signal working and it works ! Awesome !
Show us a little about how you actually launch, control and land the drone. And how much does all that equipment cost?
A drone is on my shopping list. Could be a while yet though as there’s a gazillion other bits and bobs to buy first.

Really appreciate you sharing how you get your beautiful shots! 3 lbs is great for that level of footage while hiking. How did you go about practicing with a pricey piece of gear?
Basically I put all of the little protective pieces on and then went to a big, open park and practiced flying there several times.

I have a super budget drone that I mount a GoPro under… 4K video from a not-quite 1080p Amazon special drone! I always use a landing pad thing, just because my jank drone has the old style brushed motors and it tends to suck up debris like a vacuum.
I plan to upgrade to a Parrot Anafi, I’m not a fan of DJI as a company.
DJI is great I think. What don’t you like?

I am not a fan, imho, ground level footage more like you "take us along with you", but drone is great hand free convenience on ground level, too. 👍
Big fan of your videos. I really appreciate your knowledge, even-keeled personality, and effort to bring your viewer up close and personal. Did you have to take an FAA test for the drone? I'm considering buying one, but am not familiar with the regulations. Thank you.
I chose to take the test, yes. It's only necessary if you're going to use it for commercial purposes.
