www.CockatielsH... brings you part 1 of the clinical examination of Misty, a cockatiel with an abdominal lump. The cockatiel is found to have an abdominal hernia, probably secondary to chronic oviduct disease and randy bird syndrome. Dr Ross Perry discovers she also has a cere abscess, chronic air saculitis and respiratory disease, probable psittacosis/ chlamydia infection, severe chronic bumblefoot, diarrhoea and signs of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease PBFD.
In #2 • Cockatiel with more th... Dr Ross Perry discusses what can be done to help Misty.
In #3 you can watch Dr Perry performing a "nose job" in which he gently and carefully curettes out the dry pus from the cockatiel's left nostril

I'm a bird groomer at a parrot specialty store. It's common for cockatiels to have "boogers." But every once in a while we extract one of these beauties out of a nostril so compacted the bird can't breathe through it. Some people think it's gross but it's a wonderful feeling to help an animal breathe normally again. Many people can't find or afford an avian vet (there are none in the area) so we do this kind of thing for free. I'm glad I found this channel so I can learn more from this fantastic vet.

Thank you for doing this at no cost for people where you live. I wish there were more people like you around! There is a very big shortage of avian veterinarians in the United States (probably the rest of the world, too). I have to clean out nostrils and trim my birds' nails and beaks myself now. I used to be able to take them to get them done by someone else, but it cost a fortune! I have 7 birds, now. To take them to a vet (if there was one available) for trimmings would be out of the question due to cost. Thank goodness for RUclips to help everyone learn how to do things like this.

You are so successful that you made the world poor in this case they might not be able to, because where the blockage is is an area that is mostly beak, so it's hard to numb it because an injection isn't really giving said fluid to the body, just filling a cavity in the beak

Ross Perry thank you. It’s very evident how capable and educated you are. I love birds but am unable to have any, 😞. I rescued one that got loose from its owner in Florida. Fortunately his wings were clipped so I caught him easily. He showed up at my office. I love this little bird in your video. Maybe someday I’ll come to Australia as I have friends there. Thanks Ross

No offence but why would you clip their nails? i dont know if you completely cut them off but claws are a body part of feline predators. In some cases by cutting to far. It can deform the paws. Gives them more problems. Again i am not judging you just asking why.

Cockateils possess unusually-shaped "barnacle-like" nostrils...which all-in-all makes them appear much more "funny-looking"... just to accompany their little hilarious, quirky, and unpredictable personalities... Boy, I really love their little funny faces and their charming personalities...NYMPHOUS HOLLANDICUS !!!

I have to do this for my baby. He's been sick for a couple of months and is finally, slowly getting better. Unfortunately, he has gunk in both nostrils. I had to take some out with tweezers and was so afraid I'd hurt him in the process. After watching this, I'm pretty confident that I cleared the one side correctly. I still have to clear the other side.

Great. it looks easy but is meticulous work at the time to avoid lacerating the lining of the nares, while holding the bird firmly calmly so it can't wriggle and is breathing etc. Yet I prefer to do it this way then to using anaeshetic mask or endotracheal tube.
