I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I had a stroke and have one hard time reading, watching you helps me a lot. Thank you again and please keep making them. I also am having feeling of being overwhelmed buying material. I sew to help with my therapy.
I'm a complete novice at sewing in general. Decided to find a new hobby that was completely out of the box for me. Your videos are awesome and don't make me feel stupid lol. Thanks for your content. I mean I'm still bad at sewing, but that's just because I started sewing a week ago.
I absolutely love piping on dresses especially historical gowns from the mid 1800s. This is a great tutorial on how to make piping. It really looks great especially on the hemmed edges of ruffles on an 1860s evening gown.
Holy moley - I just made piping step by step with your video - WHO KNEW it was so easy!?!? You are a GODSEND in my learning-to-sew journey, thank you so much for your awesome videos!
Hi Dana. This is my first time viewing your tutorial and I am very impressed with your teaching skills. I sew a lot but sometimes things are not that easy to follow especially at this age[ smile] but you make everything so easy. Thank you
G-R-E-A-T video.... Ive sewn my whole life and never made my own piping... it's way more simple than I even thought! Btw: I accidentally found your video... I'll be back for more of your cool ideas! Thanks for sharing😊
Thanks so much for the great video on making double fold bias tape. I want to make some for the hand stitched quilt I am making for my daughter. I will be looking for other topics as I do other projects.
Hi, I take a lot of Craftsy Classes. One class was making pillows. The instructor had to make bias tape for piping. I can’t believe how she cut the fabric for for tape. Your instructors were so much easier.
great tutorial, it helped me a lot and I gave it a like. Now I feel sorry that I dumped all my old strips of left over fabric which could be used for piping. And by the way, i'm a photographer and I have to mention that beside that you are a great teacher, the video quality and editing in you tutorials are also great.
Dana, you are a wonderful teacher. You make sewing so much easier to understand. Would you have a video showing how you do the pockets on shorts. Really having a hard time doing it. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words! :) There are lots of different types of pockets you can use on shorts. If you want just side seam pockets, I do have a video for that here (it says for skirts or dresses, but the pocket technique is the same): ruclips.net/video/_vGh-6Ms-io/видео.html
Yes, as a matter of fact, I used your tutorial to put pockets in a skirt. This pattern is Simplicity 3506 E. It calls to cut only two pocket pieces & I just can't understand. I don't even know what kind of pockets these are. I always cut 4 . I sure could use your wonderful help!
I love your videos!!!! you explain so well. I'm trying to learn to sew and you've helped so much. I can make crib sheets and pillows for my 1&2 year older room. now to learn how to make a diaper bag and carseat covers since my sister is expecting! Wouldn't that be a great shower gift?!
I love your videos so much! Thanks for this particular tutorial. In some sewing books, their technique is more complicated where yours is to the point. Also, your fabric is beautiful!
Just came to your channel thinking maybe I'd find a new video 😂 your blog was the first blog I started reading when I began sewing. I'm still so new to it. Anyway, wanted to drop a video or blog entry request (not sure if there's already one up)...of how to pick fabric! Or even read fabric tags. I always find myself at the fabric store feelings so overwhelmed by the amount of fabric and I have no idea what to pick for certain projects!
..like your comment - and yes, great idea - I asked my fabric store the other day to tell me about the markings and it turns out the row of numbers in circles, denotes how many colour options there are in that particular design, hence the reason they are marked with the base colour - now I know what colours I can get in that design! Worth knowing! ;-)
potential video suggestion - how to square up fabric... I have trouble after bringing it home and washing it... surely there's got to be a better way! :)
First of all, I just discovered your videos and I can't stop watching them! They are so helpful! Thank you for doing them! On your piping video, you have a little girls' dress that is super cute. Is there a pattern that you could share with us for that little dress?
Dana, can you please make a video on Halloween and Christmas outfits. I have 6 grandchildren who I would love to make dressing up clothes for. Love all your tutorials by the way.
Hi, I have subscribed to your channel and I just love it. Your clear and concise instructions are great. I am a beginner still. I do have a question about this post. The little yellow dress is just adorable and it looks like you lined it, or layered?? Do you have a video demonstrating how one could sew a lining in a dress that perhaps your "perfect" material is a bit thin? Especially for a young girl. Thank you for all your helpful videos, I have made a few things following your instructions!!
My current sewing machine is a Baby Lock BRILLIANT. If you're looking to buy a good entry level machine, I love many machines in this series called JOY, ZEAL, and JUBILANT. You can purchase and read some reviews on this site: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=596711&u=2133956&m=53072&urllink=www%2Esewingmachinesplus%2Ecom%2Fbabylock%2Dsewing%2Dmachines%2Ephp%23%2F%3FCategory0%3DSewing%2BMachines%26Category1%3DBrands%26Category2%3DBaby%2BLock%2BSewing%2BMachines%26Googleproducttype%3DSewing%2BMachines%26Availability%3DIn%2DStock%2BReady%2Bto%2BShip%26search%5Freturn%3Dall&afftrack=
could you also take a plastic straw and tape it to the side of your sewing machine just above the foot area? You thread the piping through it, and it goes under the needle. I think i saw something like this on a reel.
1) I am having my outdoor sofa reupholstered What size cord is usually used for the contrasting piping 3/8" or 1/4"? 2) I see the word "Broadcloth" used a ready made piping Can I buy Brown broadcloth in my fabric store to use as the piping material? or should i get something firmer like duckcloth
I was working on a bag for my daughter and she bought the wrong color for the bag. I bought the bias tape that was the right color and ironed open and used it to make my piping for her bag. It matched very closely to the lavender in the print.
Your Baby Lock machine looks similar to mine. I'm not sure if your's is a combination sewing and embroidery machine or a sewing machine? If it's a dual machine, could you show us how to embroidery? I haven't used my feature of that in years and need to see again how it's done. Thanks.
Hi Katie, I don't have the embroidery options on my machine. Sorry! But I know that you can find lots of videos on the Baby Lock site and channel. Check around on there! Dana
First off I want to thank you for your tutorials. For someone that doesn't sew you make it look very doable. My question is what tool are you using to cut the strips of fabric and what is the mat called that you are cutting them on?
You are so creative I love your videos it is such inspiring. I have a question please would you please tell me where can I buy like this machine in the USA? Thanks
So glad I found your videos, they are so helpful. I stumbled upon them on Pinterest. I was wondering if you have a supplier for all your tools, like a bias tape maker and the rotary cutter.i'm in Canada but I was hoping to find them online somewhere. Thanks a lot
Very awesome videos i starting watching our videos its very cool ... I love sewing i dont have a sewing machine i be sewing by hand to long i dont want to buy a new sewing machine do u know how to get a sewing machine without costing to much or very cheap to get a machine???
I would multiply the diameter X 3 with thicker cording. (just a math thing, as pi is 3.14). Otherwise your seam allowance may be too narrow to catch securely.
thank you for the tote bag video. it helps alot. however I am still figuring out how to handle the sewing machine:((. may I know where do you usually get your fabrics and other stuff? any recommendation?
Hi I just found your channel and I love it! I want to use this technique between suede and leather and make the cording out of suede.. Do you think that will work? Hope you answer I'm in middle of making this bag for my husband! @MADE everyday
Brittany Thompson I'm not sure the exact cost, you'll need to call your local sewing shop and ask what they're selling for. I live in Austin, TX and my local Baby Lock dealer/Sewing machine shop is called Sew Much More.
May I lovingly, kindly suggest that next time, you suggest ironing the fabric, or that you actually iron it before cutting it. It is a good example to those just learning to sew. Ironing fabric is good manipulation of it and thus makes the fabric easier to handle, and the outcome is always much better. Also....it's important not to have the machine's needle too tight to the cording, otherwise it could make the piping too tight to bend nicely around curves, etc. I enjoy your videos! Thanks! : )
It's really just an embellishment....to add a bit of decor or a pop of color around the edges. It looks really cool to use piping on more 3-D kind of bags, that have more dimension than a flat tote bag.
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I had a stroke and have one hard time reading, watching you helps me a lot. Thank you again and please keep making them. I also am having feeling of being overwhelmed buying material. I sew to help with my therapy.

How are you doing now?
Short and concise.....perfect format for my attention span! thanks

I absolutely love piping on dresses especially historical gowns from the mid 1800s. This is a great tutorial on how to make piping. It really looks great especially on the hemmed edges of ruffles on an 1860s evening gown.

hi Dana,
Where can i find your type of sewing machine. I love how easy it looks to sew. Could you give me the model #. thank you!
First off I want to thank you for your tutorials. For someone that doesn't sew you make it look very doable. My question is what tool are you using to cut the strips of fabric and what is the mat called that you are cutting them on?
I hope you already found out your answer. In the case you haven’t, it’s a rotary cutter and cutting mat.
you are very beautiful ❤❤
Thanks for tutorials its been of help to me! since the baby lock machine is not sold on line pls how can i get one i'm from Nigeria!
You are so creative I love your videos it is such inspiring. I have a question please would you please tell me where can I buy like this machine in the USA?

Hi! Can you make video making an apron with pockets? Thanks!
are there different size piping foots for larger piping?

Thanks, Dana! Quick question... is the T-shirt you are wearing one you made? It fits you so well. Is it one of your patterns?
Love your sewing machine..dont seem to be avaiable in uk😟

This looks so simple but my sides do no line up so it does bot have that one long straight continuous look. 😕
Can one use all purpose clothes line.
love your videos Dana! quick question - which size cording did you end up using for this tutorial?
She told us... quarter inch
I have some old minky soft fabric and would like to use it for cording on a pillow - would that fabric work?
You could make it work, but it will be very bulky as you sew. I would use a skinny cord inside.
Can you do a video shows us how to make regular rod pocket curtains with a lining
you are very beautiful ❤❤
You are inspiring....
How are you ❤
How much is the babylock lyric sewing machine? And where did you get yours? Please answer! Thanks and love your vids! Hugs from North Carolina!
