Dasha is a truly wonderful person, she's so empathetic, attentive, and bright that her reactions really embody what these beautiful films attempt to convey. It allows us to revisit the emotions we all felt upon first viewing. I feel so sorry for her that Russia is so often the antagonist in these Hollywood portrayals and I hope she knows she is greatly appreciated for her very own beautiful mind. ☺

He should have! Many believed that since he had won for "Gladiator" the year before, they did not want to give him an Oscar two consecutive years... I gave up on any real hope of romance or intimacy because of my mental illnesses, specifically because they can be so isolating. It didn't help that I was forced to take medications for years that had side effects worse than the symptoms they were supposed to suppress. Thankfully, my dad eventually took my arguments to heart and let me come off of the meds. Being unmedicated is a challenge, but it's better (for me) than the fog I was existing in when I was on them.

but at the same time i also understand the need for these drugs. maybe one day they'll come up with medication without the side effects or even come up with a cure rather than a "treatment."

I was just discussing last night the contrast in this movie of Adams' "individual ambitions serve the common good" vs. Nash's Nobel price winning method of search for simultaneous benefit to the individual and the community, and when they didn't remember who was John Nash, I mentioned the name of the movie, everybody remembers it, every body loves it.
Dasha, I have the theory that everybody is good at math, just not everybody knows it.
I used to teach remedial math, and I used to have students in very precarious situations, like requiring passing that exam to get their High School diploma to get into college and after several failed attempts, or failing math at college. Every one who took class with me and passed on their very next attempt. The key was undoing the conviction that bad teachers put in them that math is hard and that they were not capable. Once their self-confidence was restored, the rest was easy. They were never bad at math, they just had a mental blocks placed in their heads by inadequate teachers. I have continued helping people here and there even after I left that job, I have not found one person to this day, who cannot do algebra, calculus and analytic geometry.

    • @BubblyRainbows
      @BubblyRainbows Год назад

As someone who is 19 and has the math skills of a sixth grader, I have to respectfully disagree. I'm not challenging your experience or anything, just stating my belief that some people just aren't wired for numbers. Doesn't even have to be math-related. Give me a phone number and if I don't repeat it out loud and constantly between the time of hearing it and reaching a place where I can write it or save it, it's gone. The idea of being able to do advanced mathematics like calculus is laughable for me. If I had daily tutoring for the next 20 years, I'd never get there. Fortunately, I've never found myself in a position where algebra or analytic geometry became relevant in my life.

Wish you would post your Breaking Bad reactions on RUclips. Love to see those. Would watch each episode post. Jennifer Connelly won Best Actress, the movie won Best Picture and Ron Howard won Best Director Oscars for this classic (also won Best Screenplay). Crowe would've won another Best Actor Oscar (he won for Gladiator) if he didn't throw a phone at a concierge in a hotel. This performance was Crowe's best ever IMO. The saddest part of their story is that On May 23, 2015, Nash and his wife died in a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 8A in Monroe Township, NJ. After a visit to Norway, where Nash had received the Abel Prize, they had made arrangements to be picked up by a limo at Newark Airport. But because of a change in flight plans at the last minute they arrived five hours earlier, and decided to take a taxi instead. Their taxicab driver, Tarek Girgis, lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail. Both passengers were ejected from the car upon impact. State police revealed that it appeared neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. At the time of their deaths, the Nashes were longtime residents of New Jersey

For instance, Cheryl Howard (Ron's wife) plays the "Harvard Administrator", Rance Howard (his father) plays a "White-Haired Patient", Bryce Dallas Howard (his daughter) plays a "Harvard Student" (uncredited) and even Ron Howard plays a "Man at Governors' Ball" (uncredited).

John Nash may have saved the human race from nuclear holocaust. I don't say this often because it's awkward, but I am a little like him myself, certainly not quite on his level but I'm one of those people who take naturally to math and algorithms and it's unusual for me to meet someone who I clearly understand is clearly smarter than me. (That has happened five times in my life.) This movie always hits me directly in the feels. I'm not schizophrenic, and I think Nash's madness may be the thing that pushed him past the boredom and laziness that has limited me into the exceptional greatness of his discoveries. When you are so different from other people it can sometimes seem like you must be mad even if you aren't hallucinating best friends. I think you are right that Nash's wife was the key to his success in dealing with his illness, and might be fair to say that she had an equal role in saving us from nuclear war. It is truly a rare movie that can capture such an esoteric state of being and make it accessible for people who don't live it every day.

Great movie. Other great Russell Crowe movies you should see is Virtuosity ,The Next Three Days. You should also Paul Bettany (The friend of Nash) movies (Which I think today is married to Jennifer Connely the actress who plays Nash Wife) in A Knight Tale and Firewall. Another movie like this is the Emporor Club.

Hey Dasha, Nash's schizophrenia was in full remission in his later years. -------- One of the producer's relatives asked him if they could depict him as continuing the medication, as it would help the perception that patients should keep taking their medication. -------- It's one of the biggest problem doctors have in treating schizophrenia patients. Nash agreed if it could help people in the future.

It's true that keeping people with schizophrenia on their meds can be a challenge, but to be fair the side effects can be brutal. I found them worse than the disorder itself. I would never advise other people with mental illness to stop taking their medications - I'm not a doctor and have no right to be making suggestions that would impact other peoples' health (physical or mental). But if I'm honest, I do understand when people choose to go off their meds and don't judge them for it.

This is a hard movie for me to watch. It's well written, beautifully acted, and all-around spectacularly made, and this is not a knock against its quality. It's just that for me, a person with schizophrenia (among other things), the movie feels like it minimizes the disorder. Though to be fair, maybe I just feel jealous of people like Nash. I get to deal with the downsides of severe schizophrenia, but I didn't get the genius intellect or anything of the sort. In fact, I'm a real idiot when it comes to science and math. This movie is a depiction of "winning" with schizophrenia, when most people with the disorder actually lose.

@@nightfall902 Of course. The book is almost always more accurate/better. 😄 Most people with schizophrenia don't have both auditory and visual hallucinations. Auditory hallucinations are more common. "Hearing voices," and such. And I have no doubt that given the timeframe of the movie, Mr. Nash was institutionalized repeatedly and treated horribly there. Sadly, that happens even today to people with schizophrenia, despite how much more we understand the disorder. Tbh, I don't even want to imagine how unpleasant those periods of his life might have been. Thanks for the added context of the book though. I may have to add it to my reading list. ✌🤓

My brother and my mom said I was a beautiful mind.. just like this movie.. though I have no wife/love to rely on.. how can one convince those around him that he is not crazy?..? Nash did have a government job and was pursued by agents who feared his genius.. crazy could be argued as to how he became that way.

Being on a psychotic break isn't a pleasant experience. Luckily, the medication works at least somewhat for most people. The critics of this movie point out that John fathered a child with a nurse but abandoned the family because he believed marrying a nurse was beneath him, and he never had a relationship with that son. There are many people living with schizophrenia who have thrived after being diagnosed with it, including Dr. Daniel Fisher, lawyer Elyn Saks, the late psychologist Dr. Fred Frese, and Eleanor Longden from the hearing voices movement. Don't believe everything you hear about schizophrenia because most of the information you're getting is wrong.

The game they are playing is called Go in japan (weiqi in china, baduk in Korea). To put it short its something like chess for East Asia. To win you have to surround more area with your stones than your opponent does. It's by far the oldest board game played today. Please check it. You might like it.

His work at the Pentagon was real. He really did have classified documents and work that he couldn't talk about. The man in the black hat that he saw at the Pentagon, however, wasn't. The story about the bomb and John having to work for him in order to stop it, were all delusions. That's what made treating him so difficult. Imagine you work for high levels of government, you have a genius mind, so you can imagine very complex, realistic scenarios and understand them...how hard would it be to convince yourself of what was real and what wasn't?

I had a security clearance while in the service. Honestly classified was pretty boring most of the time. Mostly the information wasnt so much enlightening as the source or method involved. If somebody has a habit of wiping their nose in a specific manner it isnt "news" but somebody had to be there to see it so the source made it "classified"
