More importantly it's a film based on a story by Philip K. Dick who also supplied the concepts of "Total Recall" and "Blade Runner" and other films. He often wrote about identity and paranoia.

Does anyone else remember The Minority Report tv series? It only lasted 1 Season, but it followed the lives of the 3 Precogs after the events of the film. I liked it & still wish it had lasted longer.
Plot was insanely dumb. They never should have left pre-crime if all this dude wants to do is the EXACT SAME THING only now he gets like a few seconds notice. You don't have to do pre-crime anymore! How do you want to spend your life? Solving crimes before they happen. Soooo...you wanna go back in the pool?

One of many memorable scenes! The chase up the side of the apartment block, the robot spider sequence, the factory fight, when they're hiding behind the balloons in the mall. The part where the guy's on his knees confessing to Agatha cracks me up.
Phillip K. Dick has some killer books that have been progressively adapted into films! His mental health, alleged paranormal/transcendental experiences, and their influence on his writing are truly fascinating aspects of his life. A Scanner Darkly is a niche, rotoscoped film based on the book of the same name that stars Keanu, Woody Harrelson, Robert Downey Jnr., and Winona Ryder. It's truly a trip!

Such a great movie, this Spielberg fellow sure knows how to do sci fi. If you’re wondering, the three precogs are named after famous mystery novelists, Agatha (Christie), Arthur (Conan Doyle), and Dashiell (Hammett). The way you predicted the ideas they were going to cover was really great, you’d make a good sci fi writer being able to think through the possibilities of new technology like that.
The car assembly line scene made me wonder if that sort of inspired the scene in iron man where his armor was put on stark piece by piece by automation. Plus, her dog looked like he was digging his way to china. :p
Colin Farrell's character in the beginning is like us, asking all the questions we have. Its a clever way of giving exposition in movies. Also, the Oracle is a reference to the Oracle at Delphi in ancient Greece. And they are 3 which is another reference to seers in mythology who see into the future, the past, and present. The film also brings up being blind a lot. There is some symbolism there but I don't remember what, this movie has a lot of those going and to get them all requires a second watch at least. Edit: The channel Heavy Spoilers does breakdown of hidden stuff and symbolisms in movies. He has one such breakdown of this movie. Recommended.
There's another big cultural reference with the names of the precogs, who are named after the writers of famous detective stories. Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot (Murder on the Orient Express) & Miss Marple Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock Holmes Dashiell Hammett - Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon)
What a great reaction this was! This movie checks all the boxes and it is just your speed! When I saw this show up on my Wall, I made sure my evening was clear, cause this was going to be good!
Since you have already seen Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion is another great Sci-Fi movie with Tom Cruise. And The Last Samurai is just an amazing Tom Cruise movie
One of Tom Cruise's greatest is Born On The Fourth Of July, directed by Oliver Stone. It's the true story of a Vietnam veteran paralyzed in the war and his adjustment to life as a paraplegic.
Seeing Peter Stormare and Tim Blake Nelson in this is interesting because they've both had a solid 20 years of acting credits since this came out. Tim specifically in the Watchmen HBO show.
Part of what makes this movie so good (aside from Tom Cruise and Spielberg) is that it is based off the writing of science fiction author Philip K. Dick, whose writings also inspired "Blade Runner" (Harrison Ford), "Total Recall" (Schwarzenegger), and the lesser known films "Paycheck" (Ben Affleck) and "The Adjustment Bureau" (Matt Damon).
Great movie choice. I saw this in the movie theater and had no idea what it was about. I think it makes this movie a bit better if you go in completely blind because once you pick up on what's happening it's so exciting. This is such an underrated movie and I love it.
Loved this movie. It's underrated and one of the best sci-fi films I've seen. How it asks if we're all just slaves to our predetermined destinies or the masters of our choices and lives was brilliant. The twists and turns were also unpredictable. And how tortured John was over losing his son was emotionally wrenching and very effective. Excellent movie all around. Thanks for the reaction.
Dasha, great reaction, but you might want to go back and look at it around 38:03-39:10 on for a couple of minutes. Your dog was trying to dig a hole on your couch/bed/whatever that is behind you. He started by trying to dig, then he kicked your pillows off, and continued digging until he got bored, then he just laid down, looking as if he's just being a good doggie.
Drunk driving or firearms possession laws are basically "pre-crime". People go to jail and even prison, not because we know that they are going to cause harm to someone, but because there is a possibility that they might cause harm to someone in the future.
Another Philip K Dick adaptation, like 'Total Recall' and 'Blade Runner'. They always give you something to think about. Check out 'The Adjustment Bureau' and 'A Scanner Darkly' for more good film adaptations of his work.
Philip K. Dick wrote interesting sci-fi premises and lotta them are worth checking out, either as the original books/short stories or adaptations based on them.
The most realistic attempt at future tech. The only thing stopping much of this from happening now is the cost. Not only for the creation, installation and maintenance of the new as an everyday thing, but the loss of the investment in all replaced tech now in existence. Also enjoy seeing Lois Smith in her small but intense part - some may remember her as Aunt Meg in 'Twister'.
