    Another big mistake is running directly at the ball instead of to the side of the ball.

    Helpful! I struggle getting to the ball and then its panic mode or a shot with a prayer. I need to recognize the short ball sooner but this will help me be in a better position when I make the shot. Thanks!

    Nice video guys! One thing that's important you didn't mention but did illustrate: as you quickly moved to the ball and hit it, you continued to move through the shot and closer to the net (rather than stopping completely and planting your feet). Not only does moving through the ball get you in the best position for the next shot, if it comes, but the forward motion adds pace to the return without having to swing bigger.

      Also he seems to do that little "hop" which, per my understanding, adds additional spin. Nick at Intuitive Tennis about this technique.

    Given a desired head speed, the shorter the swing the bigger the acceleration. Since the racquet weighs always the same, it means you need to apply more force, if you have it. That's why low power, control-oriented racquets are recommended with people with full (long) swings. If you have a short swing, you need to compensate somehow, like Mannarino with his 10kg strings tension.

    U kinda jump when u hit the short ball tho. I do it too. I only know now cos someone saw me doing it. Ie jumping up instead moving forwards

      @PhilWittmerFilms thanks for the support, we truly appreciate you being part of the community. I’m def a little guilty of lifting when transferring my weight. On this particular ball the height surprised me off the feed so made the adjustment. I think the important part is we hold the hip on the hitting side through the stroke and then allow the dominant leg to come through. This method is commonly referred to as lift and land. If we’re truly jumping on short balls (weight goes vertically not forward) it may be a product of letting the ball crowd the body. As long as we’re getting forward though the ball I think we’re good my fiend! Thanks for watching.

    In practice I absolutely crush short balls with heavy pace and hit 19 out of 20, but in a match not so much, tightness, nerves, confidence specially after you miss one the last time.. any tips for that?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  5 лет назад +3

      We’ve all been there my friend. Controlling your nerves on the short ball is really important. Next time try breathing through the shot and that will help relieve tension. Ask yourself “is it necessary to crush this particular short ball?” Perhaps shaping them off the court or hitting st a smaller target with less pace would win the point. If you have the need for speed just make sure your hitting into a big target 🎯. Remember you can hard, and you can hit towards the lines....but you can’t do them both at the same time. Thanks for the question Alen X.

    The issue with this video and the issue which is not being dealt with is the low ball close to the net. The balls never usually comes so high as in this video. Anyhow the message is understood. Thank you for posting.

    Please advise how to hit slow low short ball?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад

      Fast feet and slow hands! It's all about getting up to the ball and using your forward momentum. If the ball is super low you may have to slice it. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question and for watching!

    If you do get to the ball late, should you just drop it?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  5 лет назад +1

      Hey John, thanks for the question. Dropping the ball is certainly an option but even that may be tough if you get there late. Sometimes using the momentum of your movement and pushing the ball deep in the middle is your best option. This cuts down the angle that your opponent will have to pass you. A lot of times you can expect a lob and gear up for the overhead. Try it next time around and let us know what you think.

    The ball was above the net, why not keep the racket high and hit a flat shot? Less safe?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  2 года назад

      Hey Terrence, it was certainly an option but elected to shape it in order to get the ball moving off the court. Thanks for the visit!

    • @Playyourcourt

    How about low short balls?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  5 лет назад

      wadsmyage good call, low balls were definitely looking to shape off the court. If they’re super low we may be resigned to slice them while moving forward. Thanks for the follow up question. 🙌🏼

    I think you missed a very important fundamental for this shot that you actually did yourself but didn't explain. It's something that is called a front foot hop.

    Trying to make it easy to understand you turn into a caricature, which is not so helpful. If I were that late on a ball, I don't know, I would switch to bocce. You can take your time in bocce.
