- Intrepid-class light cruisers were the reliable workhorse of Starfleet's early era and cut their teeth escorting commercial and civilian traffic traveling between the far-flung human colonies.
The Earth-Romulan War took a heavy toll on the Intrepids as they were easy targets for cloaked Romulan birds-of-prey seeking to disrupt Starfleet supply runs and rescue efforts.

Such a beautiful ship. It deserves so much more love.
You'll see plenty of her in TRW 2
The half-saucer manages to both fit the aesthetic perfectly and look more primitive than TOS. I really think ENT missed a trick not making the NX-class a half saucer.
I love this Intrepid class, love as in that it does everything that it should represent. It LOOKS like what an early space faring civilization would build as a first attempt at a warship. The nacelles are huge, they're close to the hull to provide as small an area to be warped as possible, even if it looks like they might be irradiating crewmembers. For that matter, fins being used to radiate heat. It's a mighty and noble attempt to produce a cruiser to defend earth and its space-ways. Useful against pirates, but is a little too small, too slow, too underarmed and underpowered to really be taken seriously by other players. And for all of that, I love it. It fits the era perfectly.
I really liked how this was all put together, kudos to all involved. These ship and system shorts and episodes have all been nicely done.
Were there plans to do shorts on the remaining systems? Tau Ceti? Vega? What of Regulus and Beta Rigel, were they neutral, they were on the star map in the main Part I episode but no shorts for them?
Serious question: Why does this graphics designer *always* have the United Earth ships getting blowed the Eff up? Never destroying, always getting destroyed.
My guess is the Romulans were the first true empire that could project power at a gigantic scale compared to the Kzinti, Nausicaans, or even the Xindi (who were limited by the expanse). They had to adapt and find a war footing to deal with the Romulans and turn the tide.
Cause we’ve only seen the first half. The good guys have to hit rock bottom before bouncing back, that’s classic storytelling.
@@mattwho81 ^^ this!
