  • This wall-racing robot is able to drive on the floor as well as on walls and transition between the two automatically.
    It was created during a one year project at ETH Zürich as a collaboration with Disney Research Zürich by team VertiGo.

      +littlepigism No need for concern there. The payload is so little. You need payload ability to clean windows.

    It is a dual copter with four wheels and it is wasting more energy (fly + friction) than it was just flown but cool anyway.

    I'm very impressed, this is a very clever design.
    I wonder if it can go onto a rooftop, or through a window

      +PlayerX Yes, when Trump and Cruz merge it will be the Crump Wall. This robot can climb on it and look very cool doing it although with tiny payload it won't do much when up there. Like Crump.

    Nice, but how energy efficient are those propellers?
    Also can it fly with them?

    • @vertigo2560
      @vertigo2560  8 лет назад +6

      +lamcho00 technically the propellers produce enough force to lift the whole vehicle

      @ki6eki 8 лет назад +1

      Awesome build

    • @furrane
      @furrane 8 лет назад +1

      +Matthew Findley Because having enough force to lift it doesn't mean it would be able to stabilise itself =) This robot is one of a kind and the idea behing it is way cooler than a basic drone.

    • @matthewfindley5530
      @matthewfindley5530 8 лет назад

      +Furrane how would it not be stable? It would be pressed into the roof same as the wall. Truthfully it might be the transition that would prove to be tricky as you wouldn't have 100% upward thrust as it moved from wall to roof.

    Are you using helices to thrust the car in the horizontal surfaces? Perhaps it is more energy efficient to combine it with wheel motors.

    basically a flying drone on wheels

  • @ddubmoore
    @ddubmoore 8 лет назад

    The front prop appears to provide lift to transition to vertical, then the bulk of force from the props is used to apply enough force to keep the robot against the surface rather than a vertical component of lift. How much of the lift vector (if any) is leveraged while on the vertical surface?

    • @CyberCactus
      @CyberCactus 8 лет назад +4

      Yes, there have been previous prototypes before that couldn't properly stick to rough surfaces, but this is one of the first that can drive across basically any surface of wall.

    Honestly if you are going to put helices on a RW car and claim that you can walk on a wall, I really think its useless, I mean its better to have Drone. I am not trying to be a hater but the invention came out late, and it’s obsolete by the technology that we have already. Would be great to have it 10 years ago or maybe I am not seeing the bigger picture in here.
    Anyway Good luck guys

    • @NBPPOP

    • @sridharthiagarajan479
      @sridharthiagarajan479 8 лет назад

      +NBPPOP when quads these days can support payloads around 5 kg.. should wheels made out of rubber be that much of a deterrent?

    • @NBPPOP
      @NBPPOP 8 лет назад

      +Sridhar Thiagarajan At first sign no. On the other hand there come problems with that decision: frictional resitance, weight, how to power that weels. It's easy to say: Hey why don't you do this and that? But VertiGo was only a practice project for mechanical ingenierung students in the last year of there BACHALOR. Infact I think it is very amazing. And just a note, DISNEY didn't want it to fly, not the ingeniers. ^^
      So that was my last coment here.
