Hello Ivana, i've just discovered your podcast and it's a joy! As i enjoyed this episode so much , i went back through your olds ones and just looked at last june(2022). So as you requested in that episode let me briefly introduce myself. My name is Anne Laure, i live in south of France, with my husband and my two girls, one is 17 having exams this year in French literature, and the youngest is 13, almost in holidays. The summer is not as hard on us as last year, but i can't wait for the holidays to go on the west coast at the Atlantic ocean where one of my sisters lives, to enjoy ocean swimmings. I am a knitter from about 10 years and a spinner from about 4 years. I really enjoy your fibers mixing , your knitting, your color choice , your gardening footage and your aesthetic. So thank you for sharing. Sorry for my poor English language, but thanks to podcast i am improving it!
    Take care,
    Goodbye

    Hi Ivana,
I usually make plans for christmas gifts around mid-year. My problem is that making plans and following plans are two different dimensions and so what usually happens is that a month and half away from christmas I look at it and panick at the amount of things I planned. Because, of course, I always want to do more than humanly possible for a full time working mother of two boys who have a more filled up agenda than I do... so, I always end up short.
One thing I really do just like you, whenever I find something that I know that a dear friend of mine would absolutely enjoy and be happy with, I usually buy even though their birthday is months away. I call them meaningful presents.
Always nice to see your episodes, so calm and soothing.
Jake, much like many cats, senses that you're not ok, and so they keep close company. I have a friend that suffers from migraines and sometimes she gets bed ridden for 6 to 10 days in a row, of how violent the migraines are... she had a cat that would simply stay with her the whole time she was bed ridden. He wouldn't come out for anything, not even food or water. He would just stay beside her and keep her company.

      Dear Nana,
There is no way I would be able to make so many things if I had schedule like yours. I was just like that couple of years ago and having a retail shop... there was one year that I bought gifts on Christmas Eve (20 mins before the shop closed). That year, everyone got sweatshirts from the same shop. 🤣🤣🤣

Hello from the sunny San Francisco Northern Califorrnia Bay Area. Its a gorgeous Sunday morning here and I'm knitting along to your RUclips. No better way to start the day. I enjoyed hearing you talk about your planning and executing your knitted gift plans and your sweaters and afghan are beautiful. Your family is very fortunate to have a member who is as talented and generous as you are to keep them all in mind to gift them such beautiful cherished sweaters and socks. I recently finished a sweater for my oldest son who is a very tall guy with long arms at 6'6" so it was truly a labor of love. It was knitted in a vibrant navy blue yarn from Knit Picks Wool of the Andes yarn which is surprisingly affordable. It turned out stunning on him. Now I'm making his wife (my dear daughter in law!!) a gorgeous vibrant deep teal blue green sweater for this coming winter. It is in the very softest inviting wool from Juniper Moon Farm Moonshine in colorway Lagoon. It is substantially more costly than the one I made for her husband but she raises his children and such a wonderful mom so she is so knitworthy in my eyes! But the thing I love most is every peaceful stitch that goes into their knitwear is done with love and at the end of the day they love slipping on something from mom that is like my hugs are keep them warm all day. What a wonderful hobby we have right?? Loved your yarn that you spun!!!! That is the height of ambition to be able to do that! The fabric for your shaw that you were making from your own spun yarn was totally impressive. Thank you for such a inspirational RUclips and I look forward to your next episode!! 🥰 Carrie

Ivana cara, it is always such a pleasure to relax and hang out with you...I love your way of gift giving, I also really love to give gifts, although I must say in the years I am trying to put less into it because not everybody is knit worthy, so true, I notice how still some do not get how much time and dedication it takes to knit (craft) a handmade garment/accessory. So far this year I have knit a sweater for my mum, which is the only thing I have finished this year, and I gave it to her already even though it is already too hot she will wear it in autumn. I have never knit socks yet but I was thinking of maybe at some point knit her a pair of house socks for the winter, as she always has cold feet, I would like to make some very special socks with a great yarn, maybe cachemire, but I guess I first have to try some more entry level ones to start with...I love the green yarn that could possibly be for your mother's sweater...my lovecraft bundle has arrived with the yarn I ordered "with" you 😊 it looks lovely, I got three colors, the poppy is pretty but not as intense as I was hoping, maybe hellebore is my favourite, brownish. for now focusing on summer knits...so many ideas and wishes...I have been practicing focusing more and am only knitting on two projects that I alternate with the situations/concentration required as one is a pattern I am following and the other I am winging so it requires more thought. sending you a big hug, I love the story of your healer cat.💚 animals are wonderful 💚

      Dear Barbara,
It is a special process to knit for ones mother.... I'm sure she will treasure her sweater.
As far as socks are concerned, I always knit the simplest vanilla socks, but I might venture into something more intricate in the future. The simple ones seem so practical and I love them.
My yarn also arrived and I am happy with how soft it is. I have yet to try knitting with it but I think I'll enjoy it.... this will be my first hand dyed yarn. ❤️❤️❤️

I have lists on my phone that’s always with me. Last year as part of Christmas I made Vanilla extract which was fun and easy. I go through making phases 🤭and everyone around me benefits, but mostly me.
I’m on Instagram less than 10 minutes a day too! Once a week or so I have a bit of a scroll for about 15 minutes or so but I have to be careful that it doesn’t turn from inspiration into I want, I want, I want 🫣😩😬 Thanks for the joy, Karen 😘

Yes, you are right. No point in stressing over gifts. I do about the same. All of my Christmas shopping is done before October 31st and my handmade gift are finished by the end of November.
For birthdays, I take notes through the year for things that might intest the recipient. Like you, most are bought in advance.
I also limit the gift knits (or other craft) to 5 per year to make sure I have time for me.
This system really helps. Less stress, no surprise!

      Dear Celia,
I think the little imperfections in our makes is one of the things that make them so special and unique.

Hello Ivana, lovely to see you this morning. I always find your videos so calming. My goodness, how generous you are with your knitting/making time, and very good advice about organising that. I have done a lot of gift knitting in the past, and I enjoy it, but I know exactly what you mean by ‘knitworthy’ and I have now reduced my list to just some very special knitworthy people in my life who particularly love their socks. This year, however, I have actually been knitting more for myself than ever before… mostly jumpers and cardigans. I’m 73 now, and I feel that its time to spoil myself a bit! You always inspire me with your yarn choices. I’ve never tried Drops Sky (I have knitted with Drops Air, and I liked that one) Now I need to try some Sky! Knitting a jumper for someone else is quite a big investment of your yarn and time. Do you worry about how they will look after the garment? Do you give them washing instructions? My close family know how to launder their items, but if it’s for someone I don’t know so well, I sometimes include a yarn label and cross my fingers. I was wondering how you deal with that. By the way, that leather bag is gorgeous! Lucky niece. ❤

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  Год назад +1

Thank you for kind words Margaret.
"Spoiling" yourself sounds like a really good idea.
I have knitted sweaters only for close family but whenever I give a wool gift, I don't include instructions, but I do make sure to tell them that it is made out of wool and how to wash it.
      Thank you again.

      Dear Louise,
The blanket is not two by two.... brioche is very similar to Fisherman's rib though.
I wouldn't be able to suggest yarn to you because it really depends what kind of fabric you'd like to get. My favorite ones are the alpaca wool blends though.

My trouble (sometimes) with hand knit gifts is when people request a certain color. I don’t mind knitting in any type of fibre but I get adverse to spending a long time working on something where the color rubs me the wrong way. I understand they have their colors too! But it’s still very hard for me to work on something, say a month! when the color is icking me out. 😣

    • @therepublicofme

Hello Ivana, I am curious to find out on what size needles you knit your sweater with Sky fiber from drops. I've knitted one sweater in this fiber and loved the feel and the lightness of it but it peeled so terribly, it was completely ruined after two time wearing it. I now wear the sweater only at home. Did yours peel as well ? Your green hand spun looks so very good, I hope your mom chooses that yarn. I really like your philosophy about gifts knitting, spreading the confection throughout the year, great idea !

I have to disagree with Kim’s comment. I think giving gifts that are meaningful is much better, than giving to say you gave something. I have been the recipient of numerous gifts that went to the garbage or a good will type place. All of the recipients will be so honored to receive the gifts.
