How about explaining this concept...that for some may be new... of parents in Oxford?

    Great vid Arthur. Thanks. 👍
Just a question from a mum of a Worcester college fresher. We have a late afternoon slot to drop our daughter off and I was wondering if most parents stay to help them unpack, take them food shopping etc? Is there usually activities, a meal etc on the first evening for freshers? Last thing I want to do is over stay but also I don't want to be kicking my daughter out the car door driveby style.
Also any essential 'pratical' item(s) a fresher needs that you wished you had that first term?

Thank you. If you have a late afternoon slot you're probably okay to leave the car there until the end of the day. You can 100% definitely help unpacking and moving in and you should be able to go out to find food etc. If you're moving in on Sunday, there shouldn't be any activities/meal that evening but the freshers' timetable may reveal something different. I would recommend not restricting interactions with flatmates moving in at the same time, though. In terms of practical items, most kit lists should cover everything but in last week's video I gave some extremely random things that you may not think of: ruclips.net/video/LO9cYMXOlVw/видео.html

@@ABM-UK thanks for that Arthur. 👍
I just saw your previous video after asking the question 🙈
Freshers week starts at Worcester on Tuesday 4th this year.
Brilliant tip on the extension lead as well.
Do you think a printer would be useful or overkill? She is doing Law Jurisprudence. 👍

@@squeek303 Printing at Worcester (once you figure it out) is really cheap and gets added to battels automatically so I don't think it's worth having a printer, especially seeing as there is a printer in the law library. If Tuesday is the first day and you're arriving then, there shouldn't be anything going on that evening...

I've just finished my Oxford reading lists for French and Russian. Is it just me, or are the tutors obsessed with literature that justifies incest...am slightly worried lol. You also did NDiaye - please say it's not just me who doesn't understand the point of it at all...

I hope you enjoyed the books. I can't speak for Russian but I'm not sure the French books justify incest; they certainly protray it, though. The effects of proposed incest in Phèdre definitely don't end well. Don't worry about Ndiaye, it was one of the texts that revealed a lot more after watching lectures and discussing it in tutorials

@@ABM-UK Oh I wasn't even thinking about Phèdre haha. Most of the Chekhov short stories depict either underage marriage or cousins getting married. I agree; I wouldn't even say that incest is critiqued in any way in Phèdre, it just serves to sharpen the inevitable political scandal that emerges. I'm relieved about Ndiaye, because it was one of the weirdest things I've ever read.

@@johnmorshead5990 I agree, Papa Doit Manger is extremely weird. It was probably my least favourite text from first year
