Great playing! What do you think of metal fingerpicks vs. plastic ones?

Great question ! I always mostly played with bare fingers - but used a plectrum a little. When I started on resonator guitars (about 30yrs ago now), I noticed the top players at the time were using thumb & finger picks. I adapted to plastic thumbpicks easily. I tried the metal thumbpicks but just couldn't get them to stick on my thumb. To me, it didn't see to make much difference whether I used plastic or metal fingerpicks.. However, I found plastic finger pickups too tight on my fingers - and mine are quite slim ! So, I used metal fingerpicks for about 10 or more years. I began to notice that if I played the treble strings on the unwound strings with a slide, I preferred the tone of the plastic thumbpick, to the metal fingerpicks. So, I decided I had to try and get used to plastic fingerpicks - and I tried many times but just couldn't get used to them or find them comfortable. They also tend to stick out further from my fingertips than the metal ones do.
So, every so often I'd try the plastic fingerpicks ... then give up.
BUT one day I tried it, I don't know why, I just COULD play guitar with them. Maybe it's like learning to ride a bicycle - one day you suddenly can do it !
Now, I'd been going to a weekly acoustic blues jam session. No PA, no mics, just fully acoustic guitars & singing without mics. The same people went every week. The week I started playing with plastic fingerpicks as well as plastic thumbpicks, 3 different people said to me I was somehow a lot louder than normal - so wondered what was different with my playing.
Now, I never use metal picks, and much prefer plastic picks.
Takes a while to get used to them, but plastic is better, in my view - far better tone, and louder.
