Needle Felting a Dog from a Photograph - Tutorial for a Beagle

- I'll talk you through how you can needle felt any dog using photographs as a guide and show you how I needle felted this realistic beagle dog.
In this tutorial I'll explain in detail how I felted the shape, body and all the details of this realistic dog.
This project is an intermediate needle felting project, suitable for someone who hasn’t attempted making a needle felted realistic dog before.

What you’ll Need:
A needle felting mat (this protects your table and needles)
Fine & medium Needle felting needles
Off-white carded Jacob wool, approximately 8 grams
Carded/Merino wool in these colours:
Black
Mid Brown
Light Brown or beige
Reddish Brown (very small amount)
Pair of 4mm Black plastic safety eyes
Optional - Multi Needle Holder (Holding 3 needles when creating the core bases)
Finger Protectors (Optional)

Another helpful video. You had many tips that I'd never seen before. I'll admit, my eyes went crossed when you were doing the math. But if I watch again, and really concentrate, I know it will help with proportions. Thank you!

I love your videos! You made it look so easy, and he turned out really cute. I want to try to make one myself of my dogs, but i was just wondering if the "core" wool was necessary or if i could just use any wool for the base shapes?I'm new to felting
Thanks for this, you can use any wool to make the base shape, but I'd advise using a carded wool or wool batting if possible rather than a fine merino roving or tops wool, as carded wool is generally easier to shape. Hi Sharlene, thanks for your question, I'm afraid this is something I've never tried to do, and would be nervous about to be honest.
