France’s leading young harpsichordist performs works by two masters of the French Baroque. No surprises there, perhaps … but the harpsichordist in question is Jean Rondeau and the album is called Vertigo. It conceives the harpsichord in vividly theatrical terms. Vertigo takes its name from a dramatic, rhapsodic piece by Joseph-Nicolas-Pancrace Royer, who, along with Jean-Philippe Rameau, forms the focus of this album (recorded in the sumptuous Château d'Assas on its magnificent harpsichord).

I think Warner's classical music videos are great and the concepts are improving - Reminds me of where K-Pop videos were five or six years ago vs. now (couldn't be too specific with storyline because western audiences don't speak Korean, so they had to be self-explanatory and focus on universal elements: Dance and Impressive Visuals).
I think Warner's challenge is figuring out the right recipe for visual experiences that complement and empathize with how audiences enjoy listening to their music while letting our imaginations run free, rather than taking focus away or distracting from the music - all while occasionally challenging or inspiring us to think differently about what we're hearing. One of my favorite elements of these videos is just seeing some of my favorite artists in-the-flesh - seeing them in a different context off-stage.
Depending on the piece, it needs to be easy to absorb without being too introspective or layered, because that's the job of the interpreter and less the job of the concept development team. In other words, the north star should be finding a balance where the video accompanies the music, rather than the music accompanying the video, and eventually the two collaborate with each other.
I'd like to see them do a movement from Beethoven's Pastorale Symphony or something more cinematic, programmatic, and large-scale - a silent production where an orchestra and conductor themselves are appreciating pastoral life as a daydream of playing the music in a performance or rehearsal; something where the musicians and concept development team's efforts are presented in collaboration with each other, but the music is placed above all else and brings it all together.

What a baroque feast for ear and eye! I needed it after watching an unspeakably drab video of the same piece danced by people in slum clothing doing some sort of Hip Hop.

You awake in a curtained bed to the sound of Rameau. You follow the music through the rooms of a château, until you find a young man seated at a harpsichord. He breaks off from playing and with a cocksure courtesy, asks for breakfast. When you return with bread and coffee, there is no sign of him, and the harpsichord is in a glass case. A label reads: 'This instrument was last played more than two centuries ago.'
