    The white kit was NOT used on the recording of the black album. He recorded the black album using a 1980 Gretsch drum kit with a Tama Bell Brass snare drum. And as for the white kit, when he downsized that kit in 1994, he only got rid of two toms. Not three. He had four toms (not counting the two floor toms). He got rid of two, leaving only two left. And it really wasn’t exactly the same drum kit. There were other differences.

      To further add, in 1994-1995 he was still using an Artstar kit. But the toms were downsized and he used a silver sparkle Artstar (saw in a Load live session, lugs had the triangular shape). Until then he started using the Starclassics and has since used those.

    1994-96 era and the current new album music videos have similar white TAMA drums. i liked the Master of Puppets and Justice era drumkits. Lars used the most iconic ones in LIVE in Seattle '89(Binge & Purge) in my opinion.

    • @Rastard12345
      @Rastard12345 Год назад +1

      95 live was Artstar toms and some long lugged bass drums, I think he went from 24" kicks to 22" in 95 live. May be either artstar or granstar kicks.

      Master kit is my personal favorite in terms of looks it sounded really good too but nothing like the black album kit and the justice kit, master kit looked like some sort of Frankenstein kit lol.

    It was all downhill after the 9pc black and white Granstar/Artstar II. That is his most iconic kit by far. Switching from big power toms and kicks to smaller, shallower drums was a mistake.

      This one in the new albums videos are much much better than that used from load era till hardwired to self destruct in my opinion. Bass drums look bigger and much better now.

      Not a fan of dad rock era Metallica but the little live footage I've heard in recent years, Lars' toms still sound weak cuz they're too small.@@subhashshah

    The black album was recorded on a Gretch set not a Tama. They did use a Bell brass snare though

    I think he need not have gotten rid of the 2 toms. He should have moved each tom one to his left, as he's playing them, and raised the 2 furthest left over the hi-hat in a similar way to how Nicko McBrain does. He could still have space on his right for mounting optional hats if he needed to play And Justice For All live and use the left hand to hit the 3 toms needed for the 'du du pa du du pa boom boom boom' part.

    In the KEA era he used Camco drums of Tama Imperialstar drums, I am not sure about that. In studio for RTL and MOP he used a Ludwig snaredum, I think a Supraphonic.
    The kit you show at the RTL era is Master of Puppets era. Lars then used both a Tama Superstar, in mahogany finish, and a metallic mirror finish. In studio for AJFA Lars used Granstar toms but Superstar bassdrums. In studio Lars used a Gretsch drumkit with a Tama Mastercraft bell brass snare.

    • @Rastard12345
      @Rastard12345 Год назад +1

      The Ludwig snare was a black beauty for puppets. Almost the same as the supraphonic though.

    All the kits are really cool, unique in their own way. I've been playing Imperial Star for years and really love them. Say what you want about Lars, fact is, he's a great drummer and he's been at it a very long time. You've got to hand it to him for that.👍

  • @smarkmalark
    @smarkmalark 2 года назад +7

    I think you got the Master of Puppets and Ride sets mixed up. Also these are just the tour kits. In the studio Lars usually used Gretch kits, and Sabian Cymbals during most recordings, with him only ever using his Tamas on Justice, Ride, and every album after Reload

    • @DrumCamDAN

      Kill em all was Recorded and toured with the Black Camco.
      Camco was stolen before recording Ride, so a music shop restored and donated a Ludwig for the studio and some tour dates - Pic of the Ludwig being played live is on the back of the Lightning Record.
      Some early Lightning shows also used Charlie Benantes borrowed Slingerland.
      They got the Tama Deal
      USA tour kit was a Chrome Tama Imperialstar / European tour kit was the Red Superstar.
      Puppets was recorded with the Red Tama Superstar - that was later wrapped in Chrome for the tour (hence the Puppets tour chrome kit has red hoops)
      Justice was Recorded with the above Superstar Chrome Kicks, and new Tama Artstar or Granstar toms.
      Justice Tour kit was Grey Granstar.
      Black was recorded with a Gretsch and a Tama Bell Brass Snare - First time Sabians were used, and they were only the 15" Rock Hats.
      Black tour kit was the White and Black Artstar 9 piece until 94 when he dropped the 2 toms for the 7 piece.
      In 95 during the Load Sessions, the tour kit was with regular white and chrome 22" Artstar kicks, and the White and Black Artstar toms.
      Load was recorded with Gretsch Kicks, and 1 Gretsch floor. The 2 toms and other floor tom were blue Tama Starclassics.
      Just before the switch to Starclassics for the tour kit, a few shows were the Artstar from above wrapped in Silver Sparkle.
      Load and Reload tour kit was the Silver Sparkle Tama Starclassic.
      The new Garage Inc song sessions were recorded with the same kit as Load sessions.
      Garage inc tour kit was the Silver Sparkle Tama Starclassic.
      St Anger Sessions was various Tama Starclassic, Gretsch, and other kits. Sabian Rock Hats back for these sessions.
      St Anger Rehearsals DVD and Tour kit was the Green Sparkle Tama Starclassic.
      Death Magnetic was recorded with Gretsch Kicks and the Green Sparkle Starclassic Toms.
      Death Magnetic Tour was the Orange Sparkle Starclassic.
      Hardwire Studio Sessions were 24" Starclassic Kicks, with the Green Starclassic Toms again.
      Hardwired Tour is the Purple Starclassic.

    Crazy how most 80s drummers brought double bass on tour. Most musicians now wouldn't bother bringing double bass, even if they use 100% double pedals on their song😬 ... But then again,maybe touring are different than today's climate 🤔

      I've heard of some drummers having 2 bass drums for appearances but use double kick pedals. The handy part of it is that they can have the bass drums on rotation so that they don't have to change the skins on them as much.
