Thank you for this! I just started my very first large, full coverage pattern. I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep the fabric I'm not stitching safe. This is awesome
I know how that goes! Did you say that you only work on 14 count? Maybe I misheard. I’ve been trying higher counts, but I feel strangely dissatisfied with my attempts.
Ooooooo this is super helpful! You said you made the grime guards yourself? Do you have a pattern for them? I just started a ridiculously large project myself and I'm looking for a better way to manage the fabric. But this idea of multiple guards with a little pouch might be just what I'm looking for! If you don't a mind a little shameless self plug i just started a flosstube and in my second video I talk about that project. Just to give you an idea about it. Because the excess fabric struggle is real!
I don’t have a pattern for the grime guard, I just took a long piece of fabric about six inches longer than length of the edge, doubled, (so for an 11” edge I had a piece of fabric about 28” inches by 8”), made a casing for the elastic (which I made a bit tighter so it would hold, so the elastic was about 20”) then after feeding in the elastic I folded it and sewed the short edge shut, turned it inside out and sewed the bottom edge shut. So it ended up about six inches deep to hold extra fabric. I hope that explanation made sense, let me know if it doesn’t 😆 Good luck with your flosstube channel!
@@gemmastitches i make a bunch of other craft stuff too so i think i followed that. I'll know for certain this weekend when I give it a go :) Also, I'm glad the channel name made you laugh. I'll let you in on a not so very secret secret, I really live up to that moniker because I have no clue what I'm doing and I'm all over the place. Its fun though :) Thanks again!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. These days i m doing my first tent stitch project. When i getting finished my picture is drawn. I dont know what is the reason. can u help me.
Do you mean it is warping or pulling out of shape? There is a difference between continental tent stitch and just plain half cross stitch. Just half cross can warp, doing continental tent can prevent this.
There is an article here or I recommend searching “continental tent stitch” on RUclips for videos that can explain better www.threadneedlestreet.com/ContinentalHalfCross.html
Good morning! Would you feel confident using this method on even larger projects? I’m currently doing a projects that’s nearly 60x40 (once you take into account 6 inches each side for framing). The cloth is quite stiff (as one might expect for aida). I guess over time I’d be concerned about the stitches not being straight and getting warped - but the thought of using a scroll sounds way to large and cumbersome!
Hi again! I’ve watched your video now a few times today! 😂 In regards to folding and twisting the Aida in order to make it fit under the grime guards… in your experience - over a long period of time - what does this do to the stitches and fabric that are being folded in this way repeatedly? Having not made a larger project like this I worry that in time the stitches and fabric would warp. Scary too is putting the q snap over precious hours of work!! Any experience you can share will be great - including if perhaps I may need to wash and press (which I can worry about later so long as the work isn’t going to be damaged)! I do appreciate your time! :)
I have not had any problems with stitches getting distorted or wrinkles that couldn’t be ironed out later. I once left a project in a hoop for a decade (I took up knitting and cross stitch fell by the wayside for a while) and it was fine, no distortion and I was able to get the wrinkles out when it came time to frame it.
I always wash and iron my work afterwards. It can sometimes take a lot of ironing time to get all the wrinkles out but they have always come out for me!
I bought a whole bolt on Ebay to get pieces large enough, it did not come gridded, I sewed the lines on myself with Sulky monofilament thread. The seller I bought it from doesn’t seem to be active anymore but Heaven and Earth designs sells large pieces and custom cuts and they ship worldwide heavenandearthdesigns.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1034&zenid=39159d27b114fabe93a18e945f4ed693 Hope that helps! 😊

Thank you. You’re the first person I’ve seen in these videos to demonstrate how to handle a large project.

This is EXACTLY the advice I was looking for! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this! I have a huge project that I was losing interest in due to the amount of fabric. I will give this a try.
okay, i had a big project and was starting in the middle, had no idea how to hold it but this is smart and will help thank youu
Very interesting. Wow that’s a massive project you have there-beautiful, too.
Thanks! I hope to finish it before the end of the year but we’ll see 😆

@@momv2pa yes I only work on 14 count at the moment although I’m planning to try another project on 18 count in the future
That is a huge project you have got there !!!
I have even bigger ones planned lol

Yes I am stitching an even bigger project than the one pictured right now using this same method with no problems.
