    Having used polycarb shields professionally for much of my career prior to retirement, I can tell you that they're really good but I wasn't surprised by any of the results so far including the sling. However I've stopped the video halfway through, between the test on the top and bottom of the shield to make a prediction. I predict that the sling will destroy the undamaged side of the shield as much as the damaged side. I've taken massive impacts from light, fast moving projectiles and slow heavy projectiles without problems, but combine mass and velocity and I reckon the polycarb will smash to bits. 😁,.................
    Ok coming back after watching I'm surprised by how well it did and happy that something we've used for protection for many years can still exceed my expectations. 😁😁

    I guess you could say that slingersam was slung into Hollywood, and now he thinks he is a rock star who went from shepherd boy to king faster than David. Now that he is back, he has to get back into the swing of things, but don't worry, that shield has enough flex in it to shake out slingersams ego and drop him back down to earth faster than a stone can fall or Goliath for that matter.

    I'm guessing that had the mace had straight flanges the effect might have been quite a bit different. Even then, it made the shield flex so much the top broke. Whatever, I suspect the optimum primary weapon against a line of riot shields might be morning-star flails, to whip over the top of the shields. Or, something like a gladius to get between them. Heavy warbow, with bodkin head arrows, would give them some issues, too.

    What you need for Grond is a oxy-acetylene touch and a l bit of hammer work. it shouldn't be to complicated if you can find someone with the tools. if you are in a farming region (it looks that way) there is a decent chance a neighbor would have the tools necessary as oxy-acetylene touches are often used to work on farm implements so you might not need a blacksmith. Looking closer you may be able to bend the spikes back with a good vice instead of a hammer. (again a farmer with a small work shop should have this)

    With my sling the piece of cloth was coming too loose, so I took another piece of cloth, put it on the other side, and sewn it together.
    For those of you who don't know a sling that is made right the first time is just a piece of string, it only needs that patch if there is a flaw you need to hide, like waxing a statue that didn't come out perfect. Basically I tried to make a Baltriactic sling and instead made a shepherd's sling.
    The thing about riot gear is even in full riot gear and with riot shields the pull lice still get injured by people throwing stones, sometimes to the point of requiring hospital treatment.
    But keep in mind, the people who try to solve their problems with violence now a days are usually stupid and didn't even train.
    Seriously, imagine if they trained, AND thought to use a piece of string to throw harder.
    Well we are here to find out.

    I wonder if there was less flexibility if it would make the plexi less durable. The police ones have the metal frames and don't seem to really flex much. Wouldn't transfer as much energy and therefore concentrate the force to a smaller area.
    Great video though and those slings.....no wonder they dominated for so long. They put out a lot of energy and would not enjoy being behind that shield with dozens of those stones slamming into it from a group of sling throwers.

  • @gatling216
    @gatling216 2 дня назад

    One thing that might be playing a factor: you’ve got the right thickness, but I think the lack of curve might actually be working in the shield’s favor. Every riot shield I ever used had a pretty pronounced curve to give it more rigidity. The shield loses some of that flex that helps absorb impact in exchange for not folding when a protestor the size of The Mountain from GoT takes personal offense to your existence. Which, honestly, is fair. Shoulder checks are usually a greater threat than shepherds with slings. With that in mind, I suspect a more conventional shield would have more trouble.

    that is not how you throw a rock bro,,,,, I dont know how to explain this,,, can not find a video about it,,,,
    goat shepards, use a large flat stone, kind of like skiping in the sea,,,,
    and you throw from the "HIP",,,, with the arm low at the hip,,, and you twist your body,,,, like with the sling,,, but with arm at the hip,,,
    if that makes sence??? instead of over the shoulder,, below the shoulder...... wink wink. stay savage.
