One hack for watering is to drill holes in a piece of PVC, for drip watering. Drill holes in each layer to put the PVC pipe through. The PVC also helps stabilize the stack. Still, put plants that require less water at the top, and those that can handle more on the bottom.

I would leave the bottom on over the water drain holes, excess water will end up running off around it and that little bit of a lip will hold some water to keep them from drying out as quick when it is really hot outside. I just ordered a case of them to be delivered, shipping wasn’t awful at all $8. I think they will be great for herbs, lettuce etc. I think if people are gentle with them they will last and work perfectly well. I have seen them talked about for a while, but no one shared a really good pic to see size. I didn’t even think to look online for size until today, they are 14X14X5. So glad you got some and showed them. Thanks.

I bought 2 of these last year. I have them sitting on a set of shelves in my container garden. To make watering them easier, I put an empty nursery pot in the center & soil in the 3 compartments. Once stacked, there is just enough space to fill up the nursery pot with water (either with a watering can, or spraying the side of the container above & letting it waterfall into the pot below) & let it water them from the bottom up. In case anyone is wondering, the soil absorbed the water just fine this way. I'm hoping to get more this year, but these sell really quickly in my area. I almost didn't get ahold of the 2 that I have.

Now I have a soil blocker, doing ok with it.

Thank you so much for sharing all about this wonderful little planner. I do have a couple that were gift to me so it was something that I didn’t have to buy now I haven’t planted any food items in there but I do plant flowers in it and it does very well I don’t really feel too good about doing plastic but I realize that the green socks are made out of plastic but they say their food grade plastic so I do have three green stocks, and I love them and I do grow vegetables and flowers in them they do really well thank you so much for all your great support and giving great garden tips I only have my little thing, three high and even if I bought more, I would probably still just make them three hot I’d be afraid of them getting tipped over from all the wind we get a lot of wind here. Surprisingly, even with all the when we get here, my green stock has never fallen over. I am so surprised cause we get Wind, strong enough to knock over my patio furniture. Usually I just lay my chairs on their side until we’re done with the wind storm.

If you can only find potting mix add some of the crystals of cellulose( the crystals inside a diaper). They swell up 200% so only a tablespoon per pot will be plenty. Soak the crystals before adding to your potting mix.

To make it windproof, you could drill out a hole in the middle of each one. Pound a section of rebar or a t post in the ground. Then slip each section down the post.

I saw these on another video a couple weeks ago and went to get some at my local Dollar Tree, but they didn't have them. So I went to their website and ordered a case (36 count) of them. I have a large garden but thought these would be great for my herbs and free up some of my bed space. I'm also giving a stack to my daughter who lives in a rental with no yard so she can grow some stuff too.

we are looking at these to buy, as a supplement to what we have all ready, because money is tight. What I am thinking how ever, is maybe taking something and perhaps putting a hole thru the center, so they can be put on a piece of pvc pipe to give it more stability, You could probably stack more that way instead of just the three

I would leave the bottoms on. As excess water will still drain out. But they will dry out much faster with the bottom off. Last year I bought 60 of the plastic pots from the dollar store. And I used them to pot up my starts. Like my peppers and tomatoes. They were about 1 gal. Pots. And they had those caps on the bottom. And they still drained excess water out but also retained water to water the plants for the day in my greenhouse. Didnt dry out so fast. Just a FYI

I bought about 20 of these last year for my strawberries, radishes, and peppers and I was able to get another 36 this year from dollar in all three colors...my husband build me a movable stand for the bottoms and they are great.....this year I’m gonna do lettuces in the garden in them and herbs and flowers in them and keep them on my deck. These are great but when they are gone they are gone so look for them now because in a month or so you won’t be able to find them in stores....also dollar general and family dollar has them for $1 as well if you don’t see them at dollar tree

I got a set last year at Aldi for my herbs. Never did use it. My concern about this is quality. I bet theses are thin and could warp in the sun and even buckle under the weight of wet soil. Love the idea for lettuce and lighter items😀
