@@cherylhagan9217 hey! I’m in North Central Florida zone 9a. Mesa AZ is 9b. I’m pooling her ideas and my planting is super similar to hers! Grateful for her ideas, suggestions and expertise!
We gardened vertically for the first time ever this year and we used 4 cattle rail panels arched over our raised beds. Super simple and very little time needed to install. We used heavy metal garden posts but you could probably use rebar. Took less than 10 minutes total to install each one and they are very sturdy. I grew cucumbers, green beans, morning glories, cantaloupes, purple beans. We grow here in Massachusetts. Love your gardens!
I found a wonderful little rv park here in Quartzsite, and the landlady just gave me permission this evening to take over a TINY area in her backyard to garden... It comes with honeybees!! 🐝🐝 😊 I am super excited to be able to get my hands back in the dirt, and I am going to HAVE to do vertical gardening. I've got quite a lot to learn though, because I'm from Georgia, so I am binge watching your vids, and taking notes!
I moved into my home in Feb 2020, I have spent a year wondering what to do with my small "blank canvas" garden. I new I wanted to grow vertically, but every thing was so expensive. After watching countless video's yours appeared like an oasis in the desert. Your idea's are perfect, thank you so much. Subscribed from Australia.
I love those mounted on the wall, and even more the tunnel made from three trellises welded together. You have given so many options for vertical gardening... something for every budget. An opportunity for creativity and to reflect individuality to serve your specific needs. Thanks for sharing, Angela.
I have used the ladder mesh for garden beds, and cattle panels arches for bigger vines, such as grape and passionfruit. I also use a regular ladder which I placed some boards across the steps to set some seed starting trays on, I like it because I can start off in semi shade and then move to more full sun to harden off. I was just getting ready to build something for a loofah climb, and needed some ideas so this was very helpful, thanks!
Hi. For my raised beds I used cattle panels and attached them between the beds to form a tunnel. We just used a clip screwed into the base of the raised bed. It worked nicely, only a couple tools required, it can be easily taken down if you need it and not super expensive but definitely reusable. I believe each panel is 4 ft tall but 16 ft long and roughly around $30 each. You can easily get them at a farm store like tractor supply.
I also garden vertically down. In other words, hanging pots of snow pea and grape tomato vines that hang from hooks in the fascia of my patio cover. They provide shade, grow like champs, and take up very little room.
Your ideas are so helpful and you clearly spell out the advantages and disadvantages and where to get the supplies. This was so very helpful to a new gardener like me. I had a lot of mildew on my zucchini plants last year, so going vertical will really help. Thank you so much for posting this!
I do container gardening in my yard and I like the idea of arching mesh ladder block over vining veggies for a trellis and for heat sensitive veggies to support lightweight sunblock shades. Thanks for the great tips and ideas!

Loved this show! I just recently came up with the idea to use my extra crepe myrtle shoots. I cut them and made two bundles with hay bale twine and made an arc by connecting each bundle together and I secured it to the ground by pushing in as best I can and tying it to a metal plant hangar.
Really enjoy watching your channel. I am starting my garden in PV. We just purchased cattle fence paneling from Tractor Supply Co and arched it over my raised beds to support my Arava melon, Black Diamond Watermelon, Japanese cucumbers, Super Sugar Snap peas. I would love to walk around your garden and enjoy your space. Thank you and keep those videos coming.
Your trellises are gorgeous! I have a small gardening budget, so I use free bamboo from neighbors. They are beautiful and can be made into stable trellises.
I have a bunch of hoolahoops. I bury the ends( after i open them) in the soil use some string looped across the top to hold them steady and toss my tulle or plastic over for a bed sized greenhouse or high tunnel
Great ideas for gardeners! Many gardeners on RUclips just showcase their trellises but provides very little information on how they made the trellises or where they got them. I appreciate that you provided resource and details information on how are you made the trellises. Thank you!
I love you for this! I was having a hard time finding flexible and affordable trellises in stores and online, and this video saved me more time, stress, and money! Thank you!
Showed a screenshot of the rebar trellis to a friend to ask how complicated it was. He laughed and said it was the first thing he learned to weld... so very simple lol
This is my first time enjoying your RUclips channel. Great work! I’m looking forward to more great content from you. Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.
Love love love your garden! So inspiring! I made a pea trellis of out PVC and garden nets. It was cheap, very effective and easy to build. I will be experimenting more. Thanks for the inspiration!
I hope I can accomplish this in my garden this coming spring!! This is absolutely gorgeous! I love all your ways of vertical gardening. I will have 2500 square feet to work with this year and I will be using some of these awesome ideas for sure!! Thank you :)
Thanks for these great ideas. I'm a huge fan of vertical gardening. I've used cattle panels w/ T posts with good success. You can use lighter fencing for some crops like beans, snow peas and pickling cukes etc...anything heavier like squashes and melons then you really need the heavier fencing.
You have great ideas. This year I was treated for cancer, we had a ramp built . Over this we have placed hog panels. I should have brought cattle panels as they're wider 54" . And metal fence posts supports. Now that my strength is returning, I' ll arch over the driveway. After the trellis is up bamboo! Big stuff will have holes drilled in each node and filled with compost. A small hole just above the big hole for drainage. Strawberry 🍓 gone vertical. Free bamboo from my neighbors patch. Solar powered light strings zip tied light up the ramp.
I love this video. Planning on making the little space I have look amazing with growing plants vertically. Looking at my budget I am going for the cheapest way: using bamboo that grows at the back of my house😁. I can't wait to get started. Your video is just giving me more ideas and make me want to do so much more.... thank you for sharing.... you have a lovely garden....
Your garden is amazing!!! I just found your channel right now! I absolutely love all of your trellises! I’m looking forward to catching up on your videos! 💚
One other tip for those sourcing these things, especially in tough economic times, is to look for farms , what probably used to be a farm etc. in your area. Often, old fencing materials sit in the corner of sheds, or outside. The original electric fence posts were rebar, with an added anchor thing or a bend to it for stability. You can either use them upside down, or bend or break to your hearts content. The triangular anchors on the former type, bend and break off pretty easily, whether you wanted that or not ( in my experience on my folk's farm ! ). Even bent-up T and U posts can be used. I've bent them back some if I could, and short of making them more likely to break, and then just drove them into the ground at a bit of an angle, so the top was vertical enough for my purposes. Ditto with using damaged cattle or hog panels. Some look nearly beyond salvage, but CAN be used for cheap/free trellising. Esp. if you can trip off the super damaged parts and use the rest, it will look fine in an otherwise tidy garden, and covered in plants. Maybe put it in the back ;) , too . To find farms, drive around or put an ad in the local paper - old farmers are the ones reading the paper, anyways - or on local builliten boards ( look for them at gas stations, cafes, natural foods stores etc. ). Also, the " farm and garden" category on Craigslist ! I'd put a want ad on there, not in the " wanted" category, if u want farmers/rural folk to see it ( sorry, CL officials ). Also social media platforms like FB have local groups about rural things.
This is the absolute best video I've seen on vertical gardening-thank you. You have a gorgeous garden. The ladder mesh is *exactly* what I need to protect vegs and flowers from bugs and deer. I will echo using cattle panels. Tractor Supply has them for about $22 and if you're careful you can get them home in a pickup truck. In addition to arches I cut, bent, and cable-tied them to make a 7' high 8' square for veg with long vines. Basically it's 4 90 degree bends 18" on a side for the corners, 8' x 12" sections around the top on each side to tie them together (12" dimension is vertical and 8' makes the length of the side, kind of like a soffit) and two half-panels across the top. It's a big cube with openings on all sides and 18" square planters in the corners. I also made a T trellis using chain link top rail and fittings. Great for indeterminate tomatoes. Thanks so much. I just subscribed and I'm looking forward to exploring your channel.
Thank you this was very good video for tips on growing vertically! one of the best vertical structures I've made cheaply so far has been bamboo stakes placed in a triangular fashion like a tunnel in a rectangular raised bed with more bamboo supported (horizontally) in the middle areas tied with string or wire; I used this to support my tomatoes.
Yes!!! I have 2 wooden Arbors in back yard that have not used yet for vertical growing. One has an old Lady Banksia Rose vine on it. So pretty in spring. And....your ideas 💡 are great utilizing affordable addition to those arbors. Thks again from Atlanta, Ga!!
Great video, thank you. I live in Tempe and have been avoiding metal for fear of it baking the vines in the summer. It looks like it should be fine. Your garden looks beautiful.
We have a trellis that used to be a metal bed base. This year, gherkins, cucumber and beans are doing so well that my husband added more at the top. A piece of wood on both sides and some plastic fence we had lying around in the middle. It doesn't look as pretty as yours, but it works well.
I live in UK. Our gardens are small. Still I manage to do flower and vegetable gardening. I love gardening and it is my passion. In 2021 we moved to Essex. It’s a new development. When we moved our garden was nice green blank canvas. I didn’t want to miss the season last year so I planted few shrubs and used my old plastic raised beds to grow vegetables. I had a very good harvest. I couldn’t grow any climbing vegetables because I didn’t have any trellis. I used bamboo sticks to support tomatoes and some other vegetables. Now I am constantly collecting ideas to create a vertical garden. So, I can grow more and more vegetables. As I have a small garden vertical garden is ideal grow everything. As I am a born vegetarian I love vegetables. I am a very good cook too. I cook our traditional food at home. Learned from my mum, grandma and our relatives. I am originally from Northern part of Srilanka. Our soil is very good for farming. We had a small farm in our village. I used to go with my parents help them for watering, weeding, digging, harvesting etc…. Enjoyed throughly. When I do gardening in here they bring my childhood memories. When I watch gardening channels like yours bringing more memories. I enjoy. Thank you very much sharing your ideas. They are really helpful. Happy gardening 🧑🌾
I just found your channel and I’ve already learned more here than any other RUclips channel. I’m so grateful for you sharing your knowledge and experience, i want to share mine too! Thanks for making this great content
Another great video! I got cattle panels and bent them (just like your block trellises) between two tposts to be ready for next year's hopefully better try at gardening 😉
I only used hog panels, I should have brought cattle panels which are wider. Here it's Christmas and the only thing stopping the snowpeas is the height of the panels. Oops.
Wow! I'm new and just found your channel! What great info for vertical structures! I moved to a much smaller lot but still love my gardens. This was very helpful and gives me new ideas for spring! Can't wait to check out more! Choosing Joy~ stephanie 🌷🌱
I use the 4 inch square fencing, sometimes called "hog wire." I cut it in 6-8 foot lengths and bend it into an arc... Or sometimes all the way to a circle. I keep it standing, the curve gives it stability on its own, plus i use lengths of rebar to keep it standing against the wind. I weave the rebar "in, out, in" down through the fencing squares before sliding the rebar down into the soil.
Cattle panels also make a great arch. they are 16' long and 50" wide. Secure on t-posts or rebar and arch over and secure on the other side. semi-permanent.
I’ve tried those but I think I’m using the wrong type of panel. They hold well if the tunnel is narrow but sag in the middle if wider than 3 feet. How to find the correct type of cattle panel?
@@FawziaTung I get my cattle panel at Tractor Supply and use t-posts to support them. I initially zip tie them with plastic ties but ten replace with the metal clips for t-posts.
Also can just put the cattle panel length wise along the wall. If you don’t want to damage the wall, you can attach them to t-posts (I use zip tied to get them in place snd then replace with the metal t-post clips). Some people also put wood around them to make them more decorative
I really like the wall mounted ones! It's unfortunate that they are not meant for everyone, since many wouldn't (or couldn't, as in my case) make hole in the external wall
What an amazing space! You’ve done such a great job utilizing all the available space possible! We just moved into our new house and away from my established garden so as I begin to start anew, I’ll be using several of your ideas. And lucky for me, my husband can weld!! What kind of soil do you use?
@@GrowingInTheGarden how do you control yor coral (corlita) vine form popping up all over & taking over the whole yard? Here in Barbados its consider an obnoxious weed vut its flowers attratcts hundreds of bees & orher polinators plus it is beautiful when in bloom there was a stunning white variety but it seems to have died out only varing shades of the pink ones left. But because its so very aggressive as a vine & the rooting structure is also very extensive & aggressive nobody wiuld purposly plant it in the garden in the soil just so . I have a bright rich pink one to booost me pollinators in my gaeden but its in half a 55 gal blue drum

We have a trellis that used to be a metal bed base. This year, gherkins, cucumber and beans are doing so well that my husband added more at the top. A piece of wood on both sides and some plastic fence we had lying around in the middle. It doesn't look as pretty as yours, but it works well.
Good idea
Glad I found your video. I am just researching how I want to expand vertical. Incredible garden. Thank you..
Love the ideas. And you have a beautiful garden. Love how you training your fruit trees :) thanks for sharing
Thanks so much 😊
I live in UK.
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching.
Wow! Again! So many awesomeness in this video!!! What a gorgeous pomegranate tree laden with red fruits!!!
Thanks again!
Another great video! I got cattle panels and bent them (just like your block trellises) between two tposts to be ready for next year's hopefully better try at gardening 😉
Sounds great! That is a great way to make a trellis for sure. Thanks for watching.
I only used hog panels, I should have brought cattle panels which are wider. Here it's Christmas and the only thing stopping the snowpeas is the height of the panels. Oops.
Thank you so much ....doing a balcony garden and this has given me ideas on how to expand it
Wow! I'm new and just found your channel! What great info for vertical structures! I moved to a much smaller lot but still love my gardens. This was very helpful and gives me new ideas for spring! Can't wait to check out more! Choosing Joy~ stephanie 🌷🌱
It definitely helps you make the most of your available space. Best of luck to you.
These are fantastic space-saving ideas but they also look fantastic. I love the blocks along the wall great for small gardens.
Thanks so much. Thanks for watching.
Great idea.
thanks for the info
Thanks for showing your garden. Just beautiful.
Cattle panels also make a great arch. they are 16' long and 50" wide. Secure on t-posts or rebar and arch over and secure on the other side. semi-permanent.
Great tip, thank you!
Just what I was about to comment! 😊
Some great ideas to grow vertically. Just getting started to incorporate vertical growing. Seems to have many positive reasons to do it.
It really does. Best of luck to you!
I'm really enjoying your channel. Learned a lot from this video. Thank you for sharing so many great ideas.🌝
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching.
What a fabulous yard ☀️🌸🐝
I wish I could experience daily life in the countryside like this. 💫
I really like the wall mounted ones! It's unfortunate that they are not meant for everyone, since many wouldn't (or couldn't, as in my case) make hole in the external wall
Thanks for the tour and the tips... this is exactly how I will expand my raised beds this year.
What an amazing space! You’ve done such a great job utilizing all the available space possible! We just moved into our new house and away from my established garden so as I begin to start anew, I’ll be using several of your ideas. And lucky for me, my husband can weld!! What kind of soil do you use?
Yay for handy husbands! Here is the recipe for the soil I use: growinginthegarden.com/best-soil-for-raised-bed-vegetable-gardening/
What an awesome way to ulitize the space brilliantly. It is an inspiration to me and my garden.
Glad you like it!
Hey great ideas love the jampacked lush garden but I wish you had included the links to the products ( arches & cages below).
Good idea, I added the ones that are currently available
Thanks alot
Do you by any chance have the white flowering variety of coral vine?
"Real simple. I did nothing to create this. It was a we effort. Yeah."
i am in love with your garden, definitely want to make mine like that
OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR IDEAS! SO MANY CHOICES. BOUT TO WATCH AGAIN! DONNA

Great tips. Got me thinking and my honey do list is in full swing. Thanks a bunch full.
