  • Little bit of an update on what's been going on this year with me and what I've been considering for the past couple of months. Please feel free to leave any questions about consultation in the comments. I'll be relying on those to move on to making something possible for those interested. Remember guys, success is subjective. Know what your expectations are coming into hotshot!

    I totally agree with you. Those people that say hot shot is just a stepping stone are totally wrong. I do Hotshot in San Antonio Texas, Austin and pretty much all the surrounding towns where I can stay local. I deliver rebar, Lumber, plumbing pipe etc to local job sites in this area. I make between $2,500 and $3,000 a week and I'm perfectly fine with that whereas before I was only making $800 sometimes maybe $900 a week (working on a Saturday) working for someone else. I'm home every night I don't have to spend money on motel rooms my fuel cost isn't as high and I couldn't be more happier. It's funny to me because the guy that said Hot Shot is a stepping-stone is at home right now on his second broken down semi-truck trying to figure out what he's going to do when he was doing so much better as hot shot trucker and the reason why I chose Hotshot is because I drove for other trucking companies and I've seen the housel, I've seen how expensive it can be to fix these trucks when they break down and how often they will break and if you're not mechanically inclined it's going to be even harder for you and that is something I did not want.. but as always it has its ups and downs especially when bad weather comes around. But it's no biggie everything clears up and I'll be back on the road

    I'd love to see a video from an actual car hauler about negotiating prices with brokers. The freight guys do a pretty good job of covering that content but car haulers don't. I have posted a couple of cars on central and it seems to me that car haulers are terrible at asking if they even ask for a higher rate at all. I would love to see some negotiating and maybe the train of thought associated with it.

Really excited to see it, and that is no joke! Your content is essential, not just entertainment. It’s correct, clean, no b.s., straight forward, and I can most certainly appreciate that. I’ve got covering for all of my windows for when I sleep. I just leave the back window covered all the time. All I can see is the front of the trailer anyway. It’s distracting honestly lol. The minimal running is completely based on where you run and what you’re hauling and where. The frequency is what you want. I’d look into cities for sure. In my case I run about 7-10 days out and then come home for 2-3 weeks. You can most definitely end up running local with the right customers but just starting out its highly unlikely.

    I was forced into retirement from the state after a back injury/surgery. They won’t let you play heavy equipment mechanic with metal in your back. Got that pension at 41. I am now at 51 and work part time Tuesday thru Friday about 5-6 hours a day running a semi truck with a tanker trailer. My buddies say I should make more money? Let’s break it down. I get 120 hours of vacation/sick time (PTO) a year. I can start any time I want as long as I’m done by 5 PM. This puts a few bucks in my pocket for my hobby, helping pump up Social Security. I also am off every day to pick up my kids from school and coach their softball and soccer teams. Why should I take a 40 plus hour a week job and miss out on the time with my daughters if my financial need are covered with my pension. I quit a good paying job to make it easier to take care of my Mom and started hot shot. This year I've worked about the same as you taking time off for Mom, a litter of puppies, swap engine in my hot shot truck and major build of my daily driver. Being tied to an employer and their excessive work hours robs you of any kind of happiness in life. I might not be making much money, but it's enough. As for the consulting, you have to set some kind of price structure to weed out the wanna-be's from the serious ones. I think the best approach for routine questions would be to make a periodic video series where you answer maybe the top 10 questions or so. You could do these videos in your 10, while in a fuel line or some other time you are just waiting on something. This likely helps the vast majority of viewers both now and in the future, and is a good source of content for you. And if they are too complex for that scenario then point them to a consultation of some sort.

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  2 года назад +1

      That’s a good idea really, it’s exactly what I’m trying to avoid too. The general information only reaches so far though. Most of the information guys really need have to be tailored to them specifically because of the state they live in, financial obligations and their experience level in all of this. Some guys need help figuring out specifics on a load board, some guys have never even used a ratchet strap and some (most) have no idea about the business side of this operation.

      As long as you have a rate agreement between you then you have a leg to stand on if they don’t want to pay. Most of my payments are received ACH. COD’s are risky but they’re immediate. I always like to speak with both ends of the run before I commit to the load. Make sure nothing seems sketchy.

    Any clue about the statement, "gotta take off your bed" what i mean is obviously to be able to run at 75 feet instead of 65 feet.I also heard one time, take your bed off register as tractor, but now then aren't you screwed on insurance ect, now paying semi prices for everything? Can't find info on this .

      You won’t pay more insurance because of it. They just go by the VIN and declared value. There is no real legal reason as to why this “law” exists other than what I’ve been told directly. “You can take off the trailer and haul freight in the bed of the truck”. Seriously that’s the answer I’ve been given twice in 2 different states. The reason that it doesn’t make sense is because if I were to actually do that, I wouldn’t have to worry about length because I would have no trailer and secondly weight wouldn’t be an issue at all since I wouldn’t need to be apportioned for whatever item it would possibly be that could fit in the bed of my truck. It’s just a money game. Plain and simple.

    Do you think it's not the right time getting into Hotshot with Winter coming up?

      I’d generally never advise anybody new to the transportation industry to start in the winter months. If you have experience though it’s not too bad. Freight isn’t as plentiful but it’s manageable enough. Cars seem to stay pretty consistent year round.
