“Our religion is Divine but our history is human”. I love this quote of yours and this lecture on the subject of the the black stone clearly defines both. You did a wonderful job with your precise choice of words illustrating the historical facts and putting them in layman’s terms for the common men/women to understand and appreciate what you said. I am now retired and at one time administered one of the largest Mosque in So. California. InshaAllah, one day in the near future, I will visit Texas and hope that you will allow me to meet you in person and perhaps break bread or at least have a cup of tea or coffee with you. Until then, May The Holy One (SWT) Bless you and Grace you with His Mercy and Kindness forever. Aameen.

Just as it was upon Bani Israeel to conserve the tradition, it is upon us to employ material means and initiative to preserve the tradition; including everything from the Quranic text to the Ka’bah.

Since our religion is Devine but the history is human, thus ALLAH’s apostle (peace be upon him) said: ‘who were better before accept Islam, they still remain better after accepting Islam’.

One of the lesser known facts about the Hajre Aswad is that it was stolen in the 800s by the Qamarite King of Bahrain. He killed the hujjaj that year and stuffed their dead bodies in the well of zamazam. Then he had the hajre Aswad removed and burnt down the entire ka'ba.
He then returned to Bahrain and kept the stone there for 23 years where he used this rock for istinjah in the toilet (Muslims use rocks to clean after urinating instead of toilet paper).
The interesting part is that even though Allah protected the ka'ba during the time the polytheists ruled by sending birds (Ababeel) to fight the army of the elephants, he decided not to protect the kaba ot his pilgrims when the muslims ruled makkah.
The Qamarite king scolded the pilgrims as he killed their men, women and children, taunting with the question: Where are your ababeel? Where are your ababeel? Where are tour ababeel?

As I did tawaf yesterday and tried to touch the hajr e aswad, I felt the same thing that it’s just a rock but I was still wrestling (!) with others to touch and kiss it, and FAILED to do so. I am glad I was able to hang on the door of the kaba and called on Allah (Swt)!
