Gin, you. must be a numismatist… Your comments about the coins you find lead me to believe you are a coin collector, like myself. Really fun watching your content. Thanx! Come back to our Gulf Shores/Orange Beach beaches and find more loot the vacationers leave behind!

It’s funny because I inherited a nice coin collection from my grandpa, but never paid it much attention. Once I started Metal detecting I fell in love with finding coins; the thrill of actually finding them myself I think. I still don’t know a lot about which ones are rare, but I’m slowly learning. Metal detecting has turned me into a collector.🙂. I am yearning for the beaches something terrible and scheming on another trip down to the gulf asap.🍀

The spoon handle is from a toy spoon that would have been part of a table place setting, spoon, knife, fork, plate, saucer, and cup. Very cool finds overall. Be sure to keep going back to the property until you don't find anything more. I've hunted some properties 6 or 8 times.

I can usually always tell if it’s silver or not since newer coins look more dirty. You should never rub a silver one but wait and wash it under water. The rubbing it will leave micro scratches and severely devalue a rare coin. Also if I get permission to hunt a manicured lawn I wait until after a good rain so the digging is much easier and the holes will cutout cleaner. Congratulations on your nice finds!

See my other comments... Because, if that coin HAS those initials, "VDB" (the designer's), and was minted in San Francisco in 1909... Then it's a rare coin, potentially worth $$$Thousands$$$ or at least $Hundreds$. Worth a closer look.

About 20 miles to my NW around Flag Spring north of Boise City, Oklahoma lies the yet undiscovered Lost Frenchman's Gold, some 3600 pounds of gold. I see a problem with finding it where a lot of land scraping went on by the land owner, it's almost at the level of the Cimarron River. Being so low meant all around the land is higher and literally 360 degrees around so anyone, especially the Indian, could have watched over where they've been looking for it. Another problem is digging a hole big enough to hide that much gold without leaving a trace. Where the scraping was done is very close to where Flag Spring Creek meets the Cimarron River. There's no way to have hidden where this gold was buried on the virgin prairie but there is the Cimarron. More likely these 7 pound gold bars would have buried themselves within the cut banks of the River itself where the water table would be at river level. Drop the bars in areas of quicksand and there would be no trace. Where this scraping went on is several miles from Flag Spring itself and the legend never mentions Flag Spring Creek. The Santa Fe Trail literally went to Flag Spring and a good sized playa lake is also nearby.
The outlaw William Coe supposedly buried $100,000 in gold near Flag Spring as well. None of this gold has ever been reported as found.

The soil conditions remind me of the Colorado curb strip dig. Here is a strategy that you may find fruitful. When the metal detector indicates a penny, I don't dig it. I focus my digging on silver when detecting on land. This allows me to cover a lot of ground and achieve a high treasure to trash ratio. Since I've been metal detecting for over a decade, I already have a pile of Wheaties and Indian heads. However, I dig nickles and gold, which often turn out to be pull tabs. Congratulations on the finds, especially the Rosevelt and Mercury dimes. By the way, what happened to the wind and rain that give your digs atmosphere?

Your enthusiam, strength of will and sheer perseverance helps to define you as a de facto metal detectorist, as well as being a proper woman..Impressive. Good to see. I made a tool that cuts a perfect plug. A 4" piece of ABS pipe, sharpened and a thicker piece glued on top. I was thinking to drill 2 holes and add a rope to steady it for the plunge. Wouldn't work on hard ground but works great.

Gin, look for the mint marks on the wheat back pennies. Some of them are worth some money.
