  • On April, 13 , 2019 the Mass Bay RRE chartered a special train on the Pioneer Valley Railroad. There were two trips. The morning trip ran form Westfield to Southampton and return and then to Holyoke to the restored canal bridge. The afternoon trip only went to Holyoke. The video covers the first trip from the caboose and the second trip was from the ground. As a bonus there are shots of the Northbound and Southbound Amtrak Vermonters in Holyoke.

I think I found on google once of a picture of A d&h rs18 running over that restored railroad bridge in Holyoke in the mid 80s

Great video, I love the distinctive "clickety clack clickety clack" of the train going over jointed rail track. (Tracks probably have 100 Pound "stick" rail.) And the sound of the two stroke, roots blown 567 engine in the "chopped nose" GP9 is awesome in itself. Isn't GP9 #7031 an ex Canadian National freight engine? The coach I think is an ex Amtrak, exx Penn Central, nee New York New Have & Hartford car, built either by ACF or Pullman. Good job catching this.

Josh, this was a great trip! And riding the caboose was worth it for my friend and I. I’m sure the Mass Bay RRE TRIP brochure has all the information on the engines and cars used for the trip. I probably still have it. If I can find it, I provide an update.
