Till they get older, then it's a testosterone battle to the death. He is just waiting patiently for that moment.
Not to the death, they just get evicted from the pride. The male has a real investment in the cubs; they are expected to carry his bloodline. I've watched a lot of lions and this particular male strikes me as unusually patient with mischievous cubs.

You can literally feel his pride and since of accomplishment. Lions have to fight with everything they have to get to where he is at now. He clearly loves his little ones and they definetly enjoy messing with their father. 🦁👑
A very tolerant Male lion compared to most.
What they really don't like is the cubs pulling their manes.

Plot twist: Those scars came from moma when he snarled at her cubs the last time. That's why he's subdued, did you see how she was watching him before she slid off😁
All free wild Lions have scars. They have to fight for life since they are born. And while adults, they fight with prays and against other Lions for females, pride and territory. Only Lions closed in small zoos dont have any scars.

I don't understand why people are so shocked by his attitude. These are his cubs. Male lions are very protective and even nurturing with their own. Yes there are times when the cubs get too hyper and the dads want to be left alone (like any parent), but they're actually very good fathers.

@Shake Zula Yeah. I imagine personality plays into it. Not all lions are the same. Some are likely more patient fathers than others.
Lions are typically fatherly to their cubs especially female ones but tend to be a bit withdrawn from male cubs as they may grow up to want to take over hence why they push them away as they age
‘Nurturing’ - equating what you want them to be doesn’t make it true. Reason so many about his attitude is bc they typically want to be left alone. This vid is rare

Saw a scene like this in Kenya in July, nothing prepares you for the adrenalin rush you feel when watching these magnificent animals exactly where they should be out in the bush and not behind bars.

I like how we are so genetically close to these lions that we understand the dynamics we see. The dad is being a good dad by letting his cubs climb on him; and the mom is right next to the dad, watching over her babies.
