I am a breast cancer fighter. I underwent chemotherapy treatment first, then breast removal surgery and finally radiation. Since the first chemo, my menstruation stopped on June 26 2022. Then on April 16 2024 I menstruated again for the first time. and normal menstruation for 7 days. I have taken tamofen from the doctor. My question is, if I menstruate again, is this a good sign that I can and should get pregnant? What are the risks if I suddenly become pregnant even though I am still taking tamofen? Please note that I have never had children. I am now 45 years old and really want to have children. What do you suggest, ma'am? please explain and thank you for the explanation. 🙏🙏🙏

The return of menstruation after chemotherapy can indicate that your body is recovering from the impacts of treatment. However, pregnancy must be avoided while on tamoxifen. Tamoxifen can harm a fetus. Since you have a desire to have children, this is an important discussion to have with your oncologist and a fertility specialist. They can provide guidance on how long you should wait after ending tamoxifen treatment before trying to conceive and discuss fertility preservation options if necessary.

Hi mam, i am breast cancer fighter.i have completed my chemo & radiation on nov 11th.& Got my periods on 16th.this month again i got my periods..is it a good sign??doctor said as mine is triple negative type cancer, i should worry about this.bcz cancer may spread to ovaries..is it ok if i get my periods so early?

Getting your periods again after treatment can be complex and varies by individual. While it might not be a direct sign of concern, it’s worth discussing this thoroughly with your doctor. They can check for any underlying issues or provide reassurance. Triple-negative breast cancer can sometimes be associated with ovarian health, so regular follow-ups are crucial, and you will want to consider genetic testing. If your tumor were hormone receptor-positive, suppressing the ovaries would be considered. With triple negative, there is no additional benefit to treatment directed at the ovaries.

Fertility after chemotherapy can vary depending on the kind of treatment you receive. There are things you can do before treatment to increase your chances of conceiving. A fertility specialist is an important person on your team. It's best to discuss your concerns with your oncologist and a fertility specialist to explore your options and make informed decisions about family planning.

Thanks for your question. The absence of periods does not mean that the ovaries are no longer working. There are blood tests that can be done to determine how likely someone is to become pregnant.

Going to a gynecologist is a great first step. It is probably even more helpful to go to a specialist in reproductive medicine. There does not appear to be a higher risk of recurrence in people who become pregnant after breast cancer treatment.

After going through so much with treatment, that hope is special. Given that you’ve been through chemotherapy and hormonal therapy, we'd recommend consulting with your oncologist and a fertility specialist to understand the options and any potential risks. They can help guide you on the best steps for making your dream a reality.
