- A push-pull tiller is traditional on most scandinavian lapstrake boats of this size. It is very handy and easy to make! Check it out.

The rectangular hatches are pretty much this one: amzn.to/402WcAd
The round hatch is amzn.to/406HvvR
The drain plug is this one: amzn.to/3UIFl4v
The push pull rudder, or push pull tiller is used on scandinavian lapstrake boats on this size. It is a very practical way to steer a sail boat: you can sit further towards the front of the boat and operate the rudder at the back with the very long tiller. This works specifically well with these double ended boats. Some instructions on how to change "tack" (your position relative to the wind) show that you move the short end of the tiller over to the other side of the rudder, but I don't do that, it works just as well whether you sit on starboard or (what is the other side called?).
I made the rudder a bit larger than it is on the "nordlandsboat", because I figured my boat would not be as well balanced as one made by the master craftsmen of the north. The idea was that if it turned out to be too large I could take a bit off. Never did that in the end. In every sailboat you help the changing of your course by changing the position of the sails. However, with a square sail like I have on my boat that is really hard. Not impossible, but hard.
I use a 2:1 epoxy system much like this one: amzn.to/3Rqg65q
my chainsaw is like this one but corded: amzn.to/3FqZe9J

Thanks for the great videos. I love that you have a Weber kettle barbecue.
Hi! Haha, I love cooking outdoors. Afraid there is a lot more gear than just the Weber...
It is a great barbecue by the way!
Great stuff!
Thank You Stephen!
Enjoying the build and your thoughts on it too 😀
Thanks :-)
Love it, great job with your rudder. How did you make out with your leaks.
Hi Daniel! The leaks are pretty much solved. It's plywood, but apparently after some time in the water the wood does expand, closing the little gaps. Also , I just poored more epoxy in some seams...
Wrong kind of wood for plank plank was made wrong too you never use any sawn wood only cleaned with an ax or adz. The thickness and dimensions are for
Properly shaped oak for everything except oars, mast, and spars are pine or spruce. A bunch of knots in rudder is bad that's why we Vikings use material from trunk for rudder
