The Soviet Union's minimum salary is 70 rubles per month. Gagaji factory workers are 150 rubles per month. The salary of the doctor and the army is 200 per month rubles. The Mayor's salary and factory director are 300 rubles per month. And the highest salary is the salary of the 800 rubles of the per month. in 1986. Also 1 Rubel IS 2 USD
After apisode five, don't forget to watch a short epilogue. They're going to explain how Chernobyl looks right now and what happened to all those people who were involved in liquidation
At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year the Russians actually sent troops through Chernobyl and dug trenches, some soldiers got radiation sickness and that’s almost 40 years after, not that I feel bad for them though
Wow, did not know that but yeah, kinda don't feel bad at all considering when I first heard they were around Chernobyl and even fighting in the area close to the reactor as well, I just went really??
The score is the processed sound of an RBMK reactor in Lithuania that was being decomissioned as a precondition for Lithuania joining the EU. Everyone that you met in the first episode who has a name is a real person.
To put things in perspective for you. If a thermal explosion had occurred an area a quarter the size of the USA would have been affected, with a state size portion of it, as they discussed would be uninhabitable for 100 years +.
I read in a comment elsewhere that these men actually continued the mission in the dark. And that the light was brought back so we, the audience, could see. And that all of them are still alive--or were until fairly recently.

Today Chornobyl is in 30km (almost 19 miles) exclusion zone. All towns and villages were evacuated. I might be wrong about the exact numbers but currently lives there around 100 people, mostly the staff maintaining what's left of the power plant and very old people who returned to their houses. Well, or at least it's how it was before the war
Fun fact: every piece of the musical score was composed out of noises that came from an actual nuclear reactor. That's why it sounds so creepy. Mazin really characterized the reactor itself, almost like the villain of the story
Also, ALL three of the liquidators who drained the tanks survived. Two are still alive today, while Baranov died of a heart attack in the early 2000's.
I just want to say if you go there for any sort of tourism in the future. Don’t take anything from the exclusion zone. All Of it is radioactive material. Also to ever was stupid enough to take one of the fire fighter boots from the hospital basement you are one stupid mf.

We had radioactive sheep and other animals in the uk so it no doubt affected humans too . The sheep were tested for 26 years after still finding levels in it.
A lot of people start this show thinking they can binge watch it, but they quickly realise they can't because they need recovery time between the episodes.

when they began evacuating people, they told them it was temporary & they would be returning in 3 days. Probably they told them their pets would be ok until they got back.
This type of reactor was the most susceptible to potentially creating conditions that could lead to explosion. The positive void coefficient and the graphite parts of the control rods were a particular problem.
@@Scazi I have a question.... What good is saying SPOILER ALERT and then following with said spoiler? Normally you allow the powertrain to AVOID THE SPOILER. Aside from that, great. They survived. Do you feel better for correcting a stranger?
one of the few positive things about the soviet union was that women were encouraged to do anything men would, its one of the reasons why in former soviet bloc countries the wage gap isnt really a thing like it was in the US and in the 50s women weren't only secretaries and never into STEM fields, there are much more elderly women engineers here, in that sense gender equality was actually good there and seeing a woman expert in any hard science field like programming wasnt something exceptional

Not knowing what to say is so valid. The fact that you were able to put together any words is commendable. ❤❤❤

1 kilometer equals .62 miles. So 400 kilometers is almost 250 miles
Episodes 3 & 4 are the toughest to watch. The Fifth is easy in comparison.. Keep up the awesome reactions 😄👍
The 5th feels almost cathartic... FINALLY getting answers, finally past the urgency.
