      Hello, thank you for your video, let me know about using ipad to make 3D, I am currently planning to buy it, but I am worried about choosing the wrong device, can you tell me whether you bought 8g ram or 16 for ipad pro?

    Im actually really stoked about it. I'm pretty married to the mac ecosystem and just started a position with an interior design firm while I learn sketch-up and assume a position as a designer. I think iPad is the most intuitive 3d modeling experience I've had yet.

    Hi.. Thank you for reviewing this product I have been using the desktop version for quite sometimes now, my only problem with this version on the iPad is that its an annual subscription, I don't mind $12 monthly but I wish its monthly based subscription rather than yearly, at least we would have the choice of renewing it if we want. Thank you again

    Fantastic version for showing a model to a client ( at their place or on site ) and being able to change and edit elements on the fly ,, and send jpegs of updates to the client for approval.

    Thanks. Although I don’t really see the reason why one would have this on an iPad. A better option if you want it on a tablet is to have a touch screen pc with a good pen. That way you still have proper access to extensions.

    For mobile modeling this is fantastic - on the spot you measure and model. For site visits this is fantastic. But also when you are on the go and need to work on a concept.

    Thanks for the vid Justin. I REALLY appreciate the no nonsense get to the point approach to your videos.
    I don't see the ability to create groups in the ipad version and was hoping you'd cover that.

    Thanks Justin. You’re my go-to guy for Sketchup. Thanks for the info on iPad. I wanted to see if I could access the Make version on iPad without subscription, the answer is no. And I note that in order to access my sketchup library on both desktop and iPad then that is a £300 subscription - not worth it for what I do and the frequency of my use. Love your tutorials and am always watching them when I’m busy on Sketchup.

    Question, i would have to use it fore drawing ground plans, just top vieuw with dimensions and the names of the rooms i am drawing.
    Also i would use my fingers to draw, does it work good ore you really need a pen fore straight shapes, square ore rectangles.

    I noticed that you’re also a lefty. The first request I make was for a left/right-handed option in Settings. I use the pencil mainly and having to to repeatedly lift my hand off the screen to make 90% of my selections quickly became quite annoying. Do you or any other lefties find the same thing?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  2 года назад

      I don't, but that's because I find it much easier to work with the keyboard and bluetooth mouse - I'm not doing a ton of modeling with the stylus. A left handed mode does seem like a good idea though :)

    It's an interesting direction, but i am still not convinced that I can get any job done with Sketchup on an iPad. There is even less accuracy and precision, which I think are essential for any decent Sketchup work.
    What I am excited for though is the ability to see and navigate a model on the iPad. I'd very much appreciate a free Sketchup viewer of something of the sort.

    It is very pricey, perhaps not so much on its own but if you consider all the other subscriptions people pay for it all really adds up to huge sums of money. I would have loved to use this but id rather buy a game.

    I really dont see the point of sketchup on a ipad. SU is pretty bad when it comes to dealing with heavy scenes so I can't see an ipad pro being able to run it.
    Then you get into the cost. I bought the last standalone version of SU. I've not seen anything so far since, that would make me decide to go to a subscription version. As you pointed out, you really need a keypad and a mouse so add ipad pro+keyboard+mouse+sub and you're paying a lot of money for it. You could by a faster and cheaper laptop and just use the normal version.
    If I was using an ipad pro with procreate or sim apps, I'd just sketch on the screen the same as if I had a roll of bumwad. Why arse about trying to model on a device that wasn't made for that type of thing?
    Just my 2 p's worth

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  2 года назад +2

      Well I would say that the vast majority of models SketchUp is being used for probably aren't that heavy, though I would suspect that it probably doesn't run the heavy models that well.
      As to being able to run it on an Ipad, an Ipad is significantly more portable than a laptop, though I don't think I see myself doing super heavy work on this version. Probably more of a personal preference thing, but since it's included with any of their paid plans, it does provide a convenient new option.
      Like I said in the video at the end (I think), I'm not sure the app by itself would be enough to entice people to pay a subscription, but I do think it's a nice feature if you are already subscribed.

    • @groundedgaming
      @groundedgaming 2 года назад

      Yeah, I agree
      If the iPad works best with a mouse and a keyboard, then it really is just a laptop. No point.
      Maybe if you are on a short trip where you stand or it's not convenient to use a laptop, the iPad works much better. But the mouse and keyboard requires a table, where you really should just use a laptop.

  • @deepseadiver8191
    @deepseadiver8191 Год назад

    If, per your suggestion, dedicated iPad version works best when you pretty much turn your iPad into a laptop by adding keyboard and mouse, then what is the point of this version? iPad is not an “almost laptop”. It has unique ways user can interact with it, app makers have to understand its benefits. That’s what sets Shapr3D and Sketchip app apart, it is decades apart as far as philosophy goes. Very disappointed by this iPad Sketchup. It feels like Microsoft Dos.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Год назад

      I mean - I think as mobile versions go, it's actually quite good, but I just struggle a bit to figure out the situation where I would use this instead of just booting up a laptop. I CAN work with the stylus, but for it to feel more productive, I personally preferred it with mouse and keyboard. It does seem to be a great fit for some people though

    • @deepseadiver8191
      @deepseadiver8191 Год назад

      It is very outdated to think about IPad as a lesser platform for a 3D modeling app such as Sketchup. I see that Sketchup app designers and you share this attitude towards mobile platform.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Год назад

      @@deepseadiver8191 I don't see how it's outdated for me to have TRIED both ways of working with the app, as well as the desktop version, and finding that I'm significantly faster on desktop or with mouse and keyboard, and not seeing a time when I would choose stylus over the other method...

      @@Thesketchupessentials I think what’s he’s saying is that mobile platforms have capabilities that have the potential to extend use cases if the developers truly lean into the platforms and utilize unique features (like stylus and touch controls). Of course you prefer the desktop version since the app is essentially a clone with clunkier controls, instead of a manicured tablet app with revamped UI for the system. I understand both views however
