    I agree with Elfie. I think the step taken after a pass IF IT SEEMS CONTROLLED makes it look more elegant and artistic. Sticking it is nice too if possible but the controlled step looks nice and elegant

    @snowfallsherenow There is a big difference between making a presentational lunge after a stuck landing and taking a step to save the landing.

    I really miss the controlled steps, It makes it look like you're presenting a skill after you've done it and it gives an illusion that it's effortless. Nowadays it's really obvious that you're trying very hard to stick a pass, although it's 90% unsuccessful

    @saichoutmg It's not just since she moved to WOGA though. Watch her routine from 2008 and then watch Nastia's routine from 2005. They have that exact same handstand circle back bridge thing in the middle of their routine.

    That step deduction is so stupid. This is women's gymnastics, NOT mens! And then they want them to do beautiful choreography? No wonder people are upset, the new code has really taken the artistry out of artistic gymnastics.

    @snowfallsherenow The difference is landing, showing a good stick, and then doing a presentational lunge afterwards, versus taking a big step backwards to prevent over-rotating and trying to cover it up with the lunge. Most girls save their landings by doing this, rather than ACTUALLY landing.

    I don't know why everyone was so upset about that step being a deduction. It wasn't ever "artistic" in the first place; it usually was an excuse to have a less-controlled landing and get away with it. The women for a long time could do it mostly because it was just a given that they weren't going to be as powerful or clean as the men. The rule change upped the quality of tumbling by requiring more control. I don't know why that's a bad thing.

    • @Gymtumbler24
      @Gymtumbler24 6 лет назад +6

      MissLilRedRooster you’ll notice now the amount of girls that have to tape their ankles on floor because of having to land like the men. Not only does the step help the pass look more elegant if it is controlled, but it also lessens the amount of force they put on their ankles when landing. The lunge adds a little something to the tumbling pass when some correctly and needs to be brought back. When the whole gymnastics community around the world is upset with a rule change like that, it means it’s a wrong choice. Just like changing the team size from 6 to 4. It’s stupid.

    • @MissLilRedRooster
      @MissLilRedRooster 6 лет назад +1

      Evan Merkley If the girls are having to tape their ankles because they're ruining them, it means their coaches aren't teaching them to land right or conditioning them to the point where they can absorb the impact with landing with control. A step back is just a mask for that, not an actual solution. I stand by what I said, thinking that a step back looks better or protects them is stupid, not getting rid of the step being allowed.

    the only person who didnt rly take much steps was carly patterson... she nailed like every landing on her floor routine! i know this is off subject but just saying. and the step rule thing just doesn't make any sense! how ru supposed to land a double double or a triple twist without taking a step back?!

    • @Gymtumbler24
      @Gymtumbler24 6 лет назад +2

      Andrea i don’t count her sliding and hopping back on every landing as nailing it. I’d much rather see a controlled lunge than a slide or hop back

  • @copper0
    @copper0 14 лет назад +1

    You are missing the point of the rule change...what do you propose to do with the athlete who cannot land in control (great example in this video) and the athlete who CAN land in control such as Courtney McCool? Do they both get the same score, even though one clearly can control her acrobatic abilities and the other cannot?!

  • @boytoyville
    @boytoyville 15 лет назад

    Well, she did rebound a bit on the landing and they were trying to explain the new rules where you can't do the lounge. It looked nice in the air but the landing was low and the rebound action was evident.

    I do not like the new Code of Points, especially the step on the landing! It's taking away the artistry that is usually associated with women's gymnastics! Bring back the old Code of Points from 2006-2008!

    • @kevinsam3078
      @kevinsam3078 4 года назад +1

      That code favored many gymnasts and left out others, for example its not logical for nastia to have a 7.7 bars routine and make up and about a 2 point defecit , so they needed to cut down on skill count and be more strict to make it more fair, its hard but its more fair when the gymnast with the better landings and execution gets the highest score, i wonder what you wouldve felt about the 2020 code of points

    • @mht4908
      @mht4908 4 года назад

      @@kevinsam3078 I think the 2020 COP is fair, but I think they should bring back the controlled landing step. Gymnasts are getting injured more often trying to stick the landing, and as Elfie said, it takes away from the artistry imo

    • @meganhigley8838
      @meganhigley8838 4 года назад

      @@kevinsam3078 I mean, nothing was stopping other gymnasts from having a 7.7 bars SV, except their own inability to do such a difficult bars routine. Maybe if Shawn had focused more on her bars than her muscled tumbling and terrible dance, she wouldn't have lost the Olympic AA by over half a point.

  • @JadaCayetano
    @JadaCayetano 13 лет назад

    okay so I'm confused so what is it out of? I know there is 10 for difficulty, so Is it 10 too for execution, which would make it out of 20 or..

    • @Gymtumbler24
      @Gymtumbler24 6 лет назад +1

      Jada Cayetano the A score is the level of difficulty. So when they say a gymnast has a 5.8 maximum start score, that’s the level of difficulty. The B score, or the execution score is out of a 10.0 and they deduct from that. Then you add the two together to get the total. So in theory they would technically start from a 15.8

  • @callmeShmingle
    @callmeShmingle 11 лет назад +4

    i agree. these are olympic class and world class gymnasts and they cant stick their tumbling passes? 1 lunge is fine in a routine, just like the men can do the rollouts on 2 of their tumbling passes, but any more than that is just babying the gymnasts. If these girls can't stick double doubles and double layouts then maybe they shouldn't be doing them in the first place.

    • @rollitonhome
      @rollitonhome 7 лет назад +4

      i bet you can't even stick a split jump lmao if you've been a gymnast, you'd know how hard it is to stick a skill, especially when you do so many twists and flips like elite gymnasts do. Sometimes it doesn't even have to do with their ability, it has to do with the floor equipment. Sometimes the floors used in competitions are brand new i.e.: extra bouncy. If you don't know anything about gymnastics, please keep your mouth shut :)

    • @Gymtumbler24
      @Gymtumbler24 6 лет назад +4

      Drew B you are ignorant. Its much harder on their ankles to land without the lunge. Look at how almost every female has to tape their ankles now because of the rule change. Maybe you should go try to land a double layout and stick it cold without a step and see how it feels

    They don't deductions like this on bars...they need to degrade the bar elements to give gymnast not strong on bars a chance...you can be mediocre on every other event and be super on bars and win all around? That's not my definition of an All Around Champion but it is what it is.
