coming back to GW2 after years so this was very helpful thank you. The absolute worst part of this game is the absurd 400 different currencies everywhere with a random merchant to use them at.
I've tried multiple times over the years to get back into GW2 after quitting a few months after launch. And every time I do I watch videos to try and catch up on some of the new stuff, get some tips/tricks, decide what I want to go for, etc... and every time I'm always DISsuaded from hopping back in because the videos all show hundreds of different currencies that interact in dozens of different ways that may or may not affect the lists upon lists upon lists of achievements and masteries, and then I see comments warning not to do certain things before doing OTHER things or you're wasting time and resources. Like godDAMN. For being the supposed best 'casual mmo' on the market GW2 certainly seems to require much more knowledge of its hilariously insane amount of intricate and interlaced systems compared to its contemporaries, which makes jumping in for the first time (or the first time in years) an incredibly daunting task for players.
@@AGuyWithFacei have a good tips for that. Its a game, just play it and enjoy :) there is no waste of time on a game. If it was the case the game itself is a waste of time.

FYI: You don't unlock Skyscale mastery track (the one from LW4) if you get skyscale on SoTO. You will need to do all the achiev from LW4 to get Rift Repair (that's needed to get Vision)
@@Lanzetsu Once you unlocked Skyscale in SotO, you can use it anywhere and on any of your alternate characters. lucasoliveira-zq1dk is talking about the Mastery skill used for the Reality Rift minigame (if you want to do it).
Yea, you still need to complete the entire LW4 collection chain if you want to unlock the LW4 masteries... However I find those MUCH easier to do if you already have a skyscale, LOL
For those worrying about the provisioner tokens the faction provisioner vendor at the wizards tower sells them for things like research notes.. at no cooldown.. and the 5 vendors in amnytas (one at each travel point) sell 5 per item you can buy for gold off of the AH. Hope this helps.
This is why I haven't gone back to Guild Wars 2. I can't see myself playing without getting these mounts since they add so much to the game. but I refuse to do the song and dance over multiple days and all this busy work. I would have much preferred a straightforward quest chain with a story to get the mounts, or even buying the collection items with gems or something.
Well, with this past week you are in a bit of luck. Previously there were effectively two classes of mounts. First, the ones that come through normal progression like the Raptor, Springer, Skimmer, and Jackal in Path of Fire. These provide some useful mobility, but generally have specific use cases that you switch around to use. Then you had your collection mounts that have mobility advantages over those. This included the Skyscale and Griffon. Less straightforward and more of a collection extravaganza. Well, with Janthir Wilds that came out last week, they took the Warclaw, a mount previously only used in WvW, and you are given it as part of the first story mission (Secrets of the Obscure kind of does this with the Skyscale, but locks it to only using it in the expansion, needing to follow this video to use it elsewhere. The Warclaw in this expansion is available everywhere once you unlock it the story). On top of that, the masteries to upgrade the Warclaw are very straightforward, and once you complete those masteries it easily becomes one of the most useful mounts in the game for moving around (these eventually allow you to negate fall damage while riding, do 4+ jumps that can provide you with either height or forward momentum, and improved endurance regen that allow you to use the jump and dash more times and more frequently) , providing good speed as well as vertical mobility.
If you happen to have an abundance of charged quartz, the provisions vendor in Rata Sum that sells provisioner tokens for charged quartz without a daily limit.
Good guide mukluk. Getting skyscale in soto is so easy. For killing 100 enemies in the camp, there is a spot where ~15 spawn, so you can get that skyscale infusion done really quickly. Only took me 5-8 minutes
I remember when Muk's jade mech killed his 1000th devourer and he was so heartbroken. I'm wondering what Muk's reaction would have been on the "Kill devourers" step if he was still at 999 devourers.
@@maltimoto nope, the soto way is pretty easy, about 4,5 hours spread on 2 days and i got it, only thing that costed money was the treats, but you can grind that in meta events and its not that expensive.
in wizards tower, rend scorchmaul NPC, sell provisioners tokens for 300 research notes for 1, and it has no daily cap to it, can buy all at once, if you have the research notes lol, easier to get notes than any of the other stuff you need
I appreciate this information. I personally didn't think it was too fast. Since it's such a long task anyway, I mostly just kept the video book marked and jumped around in it to whatever I felt like doing. Anyway, thank you for compiling all this.
Very helpful as usual. Thank you. You can also get the Charged Quartz Crystal from the Quartz Crystal Formation in your home instance but the chance isn't all that high. There's also some containers that can have them.
Doing it for 300 AA is not only a huge waste of time but quite a bit of gold too. You get 690 AA from 1 weekly which is much faster, more than twice the amount of AA and it doesn't have a gold cost attached to it either.
2:06 Is "Rising Spirits" necessary to ultimately secure the Skyscale? or is this just something that will help you but not required? That's 24 Mastery Points on top of having to do the other things to acquire the Skyscale!? A: You need "Rising Spirits" to ultimately obtain the Skyscale via this method. But it's one of the last things you can accomplish. i suppose this is still easier than the LWS4 version as with that you have to have completed the entire LWS4 (seemingly on a single character) and your not specifically told but you will need to have acquired all eight MP's in the Domainn of Vabbi and know that when your done with Gorrik in Kralk land you need to meet him in the Sun's Refuge (thankfully accessable via the Sunspear thing) in the room before the firepit. And then you get to do "Saving Skyscales" which your first stop you will want to make is the Domain of Vabbi. And for those reading my comment, thank you, if you see the "Grand Djin" event symbol but no NPC's, a player who has all 8 MP's needs to be there and participate in taking down ALL the enemy djin's there. If any respawn you have to kill those. Then hope no one actually activates the "Grand Djin" event because you need to talk to all four of them. Thank you for the info about the djinn's, but it would had been nice to know you had to activate each egg and where to go to activate them. The priestess in divinity's reach is the NPC with the speed buff icon over her head at the entrance, aside from that the other places you have to visit to activate each egg is; Dragonfall, Brisban wildlands, at the south end of Lorner's Pass, Frostgorge Sound, The Grove, And Domain of Vabbi at the south western HP. Other than the Djinn's i think that's all of them. That moment when you realize, it's confusing to know whether your doing the thing for the LWS4 version or the SoTo version...
It blows my mind that this is considered the short option. I spent more time just looking for an egg, (I still haven't found) than I did for the entirety of the Gryphon mount. I'm burnt out already,.. going to have to do this in short 2 hour sessions.
For me the most time consuming (and gold consuming) was getting all of the provisioner tokens. As I’m fairly new I had none of them and it took a while to get them all.
I am on the same boat, everything else is a piece of cake but the Provisioner Tokens are pulling me down, I will simply wait and get it done some day lol
@@Lanzetsu You can buy an unlimited number of tokens for research notes. 300 research notes for each, which costs roughly between 3g-4g if you buy correct items from TP and salvage them with the research kit. So you can spend ~100g and have it without the time gate.
Why is flying in GW2 such a ridiculously laborious task? FF14 and WoW are by no means flawless, but being able to fly in those games is far less troublesome.
I find this sequence of tasks necessary to conquer this mount completely insane. It would be much better to earn it through a sequence of quests, linked together in a story, which once completed would release the mount.
The old way was more finicky, but it had a story, and you got to play with a baby skyscale. I hoped they keep that and cut the resource costs, but here we are, hatcheries and trainings would fit the story and maps seamlessly and we got none :(
Yeah, absolutely, stuff like this needs to be tied to the main story. WoW did it far better by giving you the mount right away, and then you are free to upgrade it to 100% max talents in the first hour of having it... After that, you get to USE THE MECHANICS! In guild wars 2, it's like you have to spend ages working a real job just so you can get the game mechanics. It's nothing beyond a glorified grind. Truly hard grinds are always things that include clearing the absolute hardest content in the game. Running around like a headless chicken isn't exactly hard, nor is outright timegating, but it sure is annoying.
If the growing pains locations Muk mentioned don't work for you, or you don't have map completion in those areas, below are some alternatives. For Jotun meat, I went to the Jotun camp in Timberline Falls, Shiverpeak Mountains For Ooze meat, I went to the ruins with the underground area full of oozes in Diessa Plateau, Ascalon For Treant meat, I went to the oakhearts in Grendarrin Fields (spelling might be wrong) For devour meat, any place in PoF area (can also get forged in some parts of PoF) For forged and Kryptis meats, i did a rift event and killed forged in the Marches, Archipelago
Just to add one, The lake next to Beetletun in Queensdale has a pipe coming out of it that's full of oozes. Just go into the pipe and odds are you'll have what you need by the time you come out the other end...
Fell back in love with my ranger that I made when I first started GW2 since Hammer was added as a ranger weapon and been doing this all with her. I've gotten most of the way there, been chipping away at this when I feel like it rather than burning myself out with it. The essences were actually extremely easy to get (especially since one of my friends agreed to die 20 times so I could rez them). The Growing Comforts weren't too bad either, though I'm currently working on the one that is just "have a bunch of matts" and might end up just buying the thing since it'll take me 12 days to get 12 charged quartz, or I can just buy 12 pieces of food off the market for around 4 gold each, which is pretty expensive (to me at least), but given I still need to get the other pieces of the equipment and the mastery up, might as well wait the 12 days since that'll probably be as long as it takes me to get the stuff I need.
In order to obtain the POF masteries, do you still need to do the LWS4 collection to unlock them? Or do the POF masteries unlock automatically once you complete the SOTO collection?
Two methods to get skyscale 1: involves path of fire + living world season 4, may take a week of effort 2: involves soto, may take a day of effort Both have different masteries. In the very long term you may want to do both of them.
so basically skip 50% of the headache for gettin the mounts that we had to go through before soto...now that i look back at it its a damn long investment for a mount but its worth it got mine the GOOD OL way and named him Balrog i love mah boi
- You can buy the tokens all at once for ascended recources (lump of mithrilium etc) at the vendor in the wizards tower. - You don't have to revive players. Allied npcs work as well!
Charged quartz crystals can also be used to buy as many provisioner tokens in one day as you want, but most players don’t have many charged quartz crystals. I try to create one every day in my home instance as well as crafting ascended time gated materials each day, so that made it easier for me to purchase provisioner tokens, but with high value materials from my bank.

You can buy Provision tokens in WvW 25 per account per week. Costs are 10 Skirmish WvW ticket + 5 Badge of Honor + 5 Testimoiny of Jade Heroics. Good luck an thanks for this tutorial!

Thanks for the video. It would be helpful if you listed out the required materials in the video description instead of me having to guess at what they are from the pictures. I'm sure experienced players know immediately what they are but only having played a few weeks now, I only can spot gold and the slabs of red meat.

You can also easily complete the skyscale of life by making use of a strike or raid instance and having a friend /gg to kill themselves over and over, and for the people who don't want to buy the Skyscale of blood step I found the rock dogs that spawn in the Amaranth Grotto have a very fast respawn rate and you can stand near the gate to use a long ranged weapon to hit both spawn points.

Do you know if some of the materials that we need for the SOTO Skyscale require Living World Season 4 maps? Since I pretty much don't have any LS4 maps, only HoT + PoF, and I plan on buying SOTO, it would be stressful if I found out that one of the materials need LS4 map.
This is new and easy? Looks like optional sadomasochism to me. I needed the Roller Beatle for map completion, which was non-optional sadomasochistic rape. I needed the Jackal for map completion. But I do not need a Griffon, a Skyscale, or a Turtle for anything. The only two mounts I use are the Springer and the Skimmer. Roller Beatle and Jackal are never used outside of Path of Fire where necessary. And Skyscale is never used outside of Secrets of the Obscure. As far as I'm concerned the Exotic Armor and the Exotic Weapons are the end game. I will never purposely get Ascended or legendary gear, and I will never use the Mystic Forge for re-rolling stats and I will never craft. The Mystic Forge is sadistic. Crafting is sadistic. I hate items. Griffon, Skyscale, and Turtle are sadistic. Ascended and Legendary gear are Sadistic. If I've been gathering every node on my adventures for 10 years and still don't have what I need, I'm not farming it, and I'm not buying it. The content I have already paid for is already infinity plus one for all intents and purposes, and I don't need any of that psychotic bullshit to enjoy it. It would take 2,000 to 3,000 more hours of gameplay before I ever looked at a single one of those things, or PvP, or WvW.

@@AGuyWithFaceit’s a casual mmo. play it until it gets boring. log off. once you unlock these things or decnet gear it’s going to be good forever. this is jot the case for many games
@@astrozprime4291I love it. You dont really have to care about most currencies and you just earn them by playing the game.
4:15 this one also works for NPC's btw, so you can go to fire elemental world boss spawn and revive all the NPC's there.
That's how I did it.
You can do both in Gendaran Fields where centaurs kill guards.
yeah or silverwaste
@@sw-gsThis is the best way IMO. Great comment.
FYI: You don't unlock Skyscale mastery track (the one from LW4) if you get skyscale on SoTO. You will need to do all the achiev from LW4 to get Rift Repair (that's needed to get Vision)
Wait what? So if you get the Skyscale from SOTO you are screwed later for getting the one from POF?
@@Lanzetsu Once you unlocked Skyscale in SotO, you can use it anywhere and on any of your alternate characters. lucasoliveira-zq1dk is talking about the Mastery skill used for the Reality Rift minigame (if you want to do it).
That's just stupid.
nope he is talking about the old pof skyscale masteries and yeah you need to do the old collection for those@@iamdjrandom
You should try black desert online... After playing this you will find everything in gw2 an easy grind.. It's al about perspective XD
There's also the Centaur world boss. I wouldn't be surprised if you can kill close to 100 in the pre-event alone.
No. No, its not.
Tedious is the word you should have used.
I remember when Muk's jade mech killed his 1000th devourer and he was so heartbroken. I'm wondering what Muk's reaction would have been on the "Kill devourers" step if he was still at 999 devourers.
If this is the easy way to get the skyscale, I think I would rather slam my hand in a car door. I'm impressed you did all this.
I though they would make the process more streamlined but honestly this new method is just as crappy as the last
it took me 2 days.. not that hard anymore
@@UmbralScythe 2 days ... if you have the materials already or the necessary 80 Gold

I've had this video and a few more guides all tabbed up in an island for the last week getting this. Thank you for the video.
I don't know why people complain, this gives L2 wolf and hatchling quest vibes I like it
in wizards tower, rend scorchmaul NPC, sell provisioners tokens for 300 research notes for 1, and it has no daily cap to it, can buy all at once, if you have the research notes lol, easier to get notes than any of the other stuff you need
There's also some containers that can have them.
just buy the treats form the trading post

Doing it for 300 AA is not only a huge waste of time but quite a bit of gold too. You get 690 AA from 1 weekly which is much faster, more than twice the amount of AA and it doesn't have a gold cost attached to it either.
Mhmmm…fast way? First method in season 4 is long but the beast i think
@@elrobert365you know what's better than 690 AA? 690AA + 300AA😂
I'm burnt out already,.. going to have to do this in short 2 hour sessions.
find engg is stupidity. i also cant find them spent hours.
@@epto Fast farmings best method is to craft valk helms and salvage them

Why is flying in GW2 such a ridiculously laborious task? FF14 and WoW are by no means flawless, but being able to fly in those games is far less troublesome.
being able to fly in WoW and FF14 won't ruin puzzles or reaching areas that requires playing the game
For Jotun meat, I went to the Jotun camp in Timberline Falls, Shiverpeak Mountains
For Ooze meat, I went to the ruins with the underground area full of oozes in Diessa Plateau, Ascalon
For Treant meat, I went to the oakhearts in Grendarrin Fields (spelling might be wrong)
For devour meat, any place in PoF area (can also get forged in some parts of PoF)
For forged and Kryptis meats, i did a rift event and killed forged in the Marches, Archipelago
Just to add one, The lake next to Beetletun in Queensdale has a pipe coming out of it that's full of oozes. Just go into the pipe and odds are you'll have what you need by the time you come out the other end...
i found them all from normal mobs you actually dont need the champ version of them
you can get oozes from a cave in auric basin too
you can find devour in soto too somewhere in the desert part
and i think you can find karka in the jungle part of the arcipelago
Fell back in love with my ranger that I made when I first started GW2 since Hammer was added as a ranger weapon and been doing this all with her. I've gotten most of the way there, been chipping away at this when I feel like it rather than burning myself out with it. The essences were actually extremely easy to get (especially since one of my friends agreed to die 20 times so I could rez them). The Growing Comforts weren't too bad either, though I'm currently working on the one that is just "have a bunch of matts" and might end up just buying the thing since it'll take me 12 days to get 12 charged quartz, or I can just buy 12 pieces of food off the market for around 4 gold each, which is pretty expensive (to me at least), but given I still need to get the other pieces of the equipment and the mastery up, might as well wait the 12 days since that'll probably be as long as it takes me to get the stuff I need.
omg this is madness.... but your video explains it a lot better than any other that I've seen so thank you for making it a lot clearer.
I doing the Skyscale now. Thanks for the guide.
In order to obtain the POF masteries, do you still need to do the LWS4 collection to unlock them?
Or do the POF masteries unlock automatically once you complete the SOTO collection?

I'm almost there man. Your guide made it EASY. Thank you!
This is a perfect example of time-predatory game design.

Skyscale of Ice infusion can also be obtained during the Fraenir of Jormag strike mission... that's how I accidentally got mine. 😅
Hey Muk, how are you doing? I hope you're doing well.
Let me ask you. Do I need the End of Dragons exp to get the Skyscape on SOTO?
Two methods to get skyscale
1: involves path of fire + living world season 4, may take a week of effort
2: involves soto, may take a day of effort
Both have different masteries. In the very long term you may want to do both of them.
so basically skip 50% of the headache for gettin the mounts that we had to go through before soto...now that i look back at it its a damn long investment for a mount but its worth it

I suddenly have a feeling of pride that I got mine back in the day (the golden age of gw2 imo).
@@Andrew-zq3ip No.
I try to do the same every day I play GW2! You never know if or when you 'need' these things, but it's good to have them! 🙃
Thanks Muk, I have completed the first set of the three. I so hate all the go here find this stuff but.. what can ya do?? This guide will make the next 2 sets alot easier.
Thank you for making this video !!!!
Thank you for the guide. It really doesn't seem worth doing again for those of us who already have the Skyscale. Unless someone doesn't have a skin. The skins I already have look better than the Kryptis.
You can also buy 25 Provisioner Tokens per week from merchant Dugan in WvW if you have a bunch of WvW currencies.
Jumped back into gw after a 10Y break, was very helpful to catch up on the mount 👌

Thanks for the video. It would be helpful if you listed out the required materials in the video description instead of me having to guess at what they are from the pictures. I'm sure experienced players know immediately what they are but only having played a few weeks now, I only can spot gold and the slabs of red meat.
Seriously, life's too short.
I used to play GW2 back when it was a fairly simple game, just gold and XP. This stuff is all time gating and inventory space-wasting. I came back but I don't think I'll be staying.

I don't understand why I would need to unlock both mastery lines, it seems the PoF masteries are also included in the new SotO mastery line? Or am I missing something?
Never mind, I saw the wiki now, it enhances the skills your skyscale gains from those masteries if you've trained them in both lines.
Great video dude, thanks! Just getting back into the game again after not playing since pre path of fire! This looks like it's gonna take a while but i've just spent gems on a skyscale skin which I can't use so there's my motivation I guess hahaha

Wow. Hearing all this for the first time. Overwhelming. But is on my list of things, to do.
The easiest way I found was the southeast of Metrica Province. A renown heart has NPCs dying nonstop that can be revived. But that was for the LWS4 skyscale achievement, so it might not work here.
@ there is also a number of dead npcs in the south of crystal oasis, next to the portal to the elon riverlands

How many skyscale food do u need to skip the list at 1:00?
There are some vendors that let you get more than one Provisioner's Token but they cost one time-gated ascended material per token, so if you want to spend those go for it, but they are time gated so you probably want to avoid it.
Do I need to complete the main story of SOTO in order to get the skyscale from SOTO? Or all I need is the materials and masteries?
Been looking forward to this video, thanks.
Thank you for this. Got my Skyscale!
Thank you very much! Now I need a "How to get (Pinches of Stardust) and (Fine Rift Essence). Not like the grind wasn't already enough. lol Really wish I would have come back before SOTO.
