      I hear you on that; it's something I hate as well. Some people aren't willing to go the extra mile and would rather throw something out there as quickly as possible to get early views. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

    The tripple mister dolphin combo sold me on this character. Hope its still perform-able modern patch

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 месяца назад +2

      Oh man, it’s crazy looking back at how old this video is. Everything is so different and way harder to execute now. These combos are still just fine and should be a good starting point for beginners, but they are extremely inefficient. One of the biggest patch changes was nerfing the damage that the dolphins do. However, May got a new move that lets her cancel the dolphin and land on her feet right away. So it’s a similar idea, but you have to cancel the dolphin before it hits mid-combo and use mostly melee attacks for better damage.
      I have other videos for more May combos, but none of them are specifically for the current patch. Still, they’re good for anyone just starting out.
      I know you didn’t ask and this reply has already gone on for a while, but here’s a list of codes you can input for the in-game combo challenge if you want recommended combos that do work for the current patch.
      99,556
      99,557
      99,558
      99,559
      99,561
      99,563
      99,564
      99,565
      99,566
      99,568
      Keep in mind, these combos might become outdated when the new patch releases October 31st, but even so the changes shouldn’t be too extreme and these combos might still be good to practice.

      @@FourFaceButtons wow thanks a ton!

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 месяца назад +2

      No problem. I actually went over those combo challenges real quick, and they still work on the current patch. I also added two more combos that I would highly recommend:
      104,240
      104,241
      Keep in mind that these two combos can work against Anji, Chaos, and Asuka, but they require very specific adjustments just for those three characters that makes it much harder to execute.
      Again, sorry for the long replies. Good luck with the game and have fun.

    Your videos are really well made and easy to understand, plus entertaining. I'd like to get into Strive as my first fighting game, so this is super helpful.
    Surprised you don't have more subscribers/views/likes.

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 года назад +3

      I'd say Strive is a great game to start with. Maybe it's because I've been playing fighting games for a while already, but I found this one to be way easier to get into than other ones I've tried, but there's still plenty of depth to it too. You'll still need to spend hours upon hours practicing your combos and getting destroyed online to learn each characters strengths and weaknesses, but the Mission Mode teaches you pretty much everything you need to know and it's usually clear why you would win or lose. It's not perfect, but it's definitely my favorite fighting game in a long time. In short, I'd recommend it, and good luck if you decide to get it.
      As for the low views and whatnot, it's whatever. It'd be nice to get more attention, but as long as I can help out random strangers then that's enough for me.

    Just wanna say that I used this video as a template when I picked up Guilty Gear Strive. I'd never played a 2-D fighter before so the way you broke this down was really helpful. Been able to make into Celestial two months in a row now and this is video really helped me build a foundation in this game. Appreciate ya.

    I’m just getting into Guilty Gear, and it’s been hard to find good introductory guides for May. Your guides do a great job of explaining the combos, utility, and variations for higher damage potential. Your videos have really helped me get a grasp on the character. I didn’t know where to start before, but now I have a good idea of where May can capitalize on an opening. Thanks for putting this together!

      You're very welcome! This is the sort of guide I wish I had back when I played games like Street Fighter 4 and Marvel VS Capcom 3, so I decided to make one myself. I'm not an expert by any means and it doesn't help that this guide is a little outdated (there are definitely way better combos and approaches that I use now) but it should still be a good starting point for beginners. I'm glad you found it helpful! Keep practicing and good luck!

      @@YorkPrime Nice dude. Marvel 3 was awesome, and I feel like Guilty Gear is a good transitioning point due to its few buttons and easy inputs. However, there is a bigger emphasis on the neutral game and it's so easy to die from minor mistakes, but I do believe that it's both easy to get into and a lot of fun to play.

    just a note
    if you dolphin couter grab in the corner, you don't have to roman, the wall keeps them from going too far away so you can just do it without having to roman cancel and save your meter or potentially continue the string with the roman that you saved later on

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 года назад

      Yup, good advice. Doing the command grab in the corner is strong for May because she can go into a full combo without having to use meter.

    • @ThaMxUp
      @ThaMxUp 3 года назад +1

      @@FourFaceButtons come to think of it, if you get the grab in the corner why not just do the corner bounce off?

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 года назад

      Nah, it doesn’t work that way. The opponent gets thrown high into the air but they hit the ground before May can act. She can hit them one time on the ground in the corner, but that’s it. In this situation, May needs to do a Roman Cancel to extend the combo. The command grab is stronger and the opponent can’t Throw Break, but of course it also requires a command which makes it more difficult to do at a moment’s notice. So there’s some balance between the two types of attacks.

    • @ThaMxUp
      @ThaMxUp 3 года назад

      @@FourFaceButtons wait with the command grab? I thought that was one of the setups for the loop? Or what does the couter affect how your followups connect?

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 года назад

      @@ThaMxUp The command grab, Overhead Kiss, inputed with 623K, is what you need to do for combos. The regular grab is much more limited and doesn't have the same combo potential as the command grab.

I’m going to have a new video up later today for more advanced May combos, but that’ll probably be it. • @FourFaceButtons

      Try to focus on only two attacks for the most part, Slash and Heavy Slash, or Triangle and Circle if you’re on PlayStation. Don’t worry too much about Punch, Kick, and Dust. Those three buttons are great in their own right, but keep it simple if you’re just starting out. Once you get a strong understanding of the range of each attack and how to do these combos, then you can look into incorporating the other buttons too. Crouching Kick combos into crouching Dust for a very quick, safe, and effective sweep. Forward Punch is also a shockingly effective anti-air. There’s plenty more too, but just stick with Slash and Heavy Slash until you get more comfortable with the game as a whole. And of course, try to do as many Missions in the game’s Mission Mode as you can.

      Thank you. Traditional fighting games can be intimidating but they're only just as complex as any other competitive game. I'm terrible at Smash Bros, for example, but I can at least hold my own in these games. I'd say that Guilty Gear Strive is the best recent fighting game for beginners, but Street Fighter 5 is a fine choice too. Tekken 7 is great too if you're looking for a 3D fighting game. Whatever you decide, put yourself out there and give it a try.

    I'm new to fighting games (apart from the usual button smash with friends) and decided to main May. This video is really helping me but the charge aspect of the dolphin is killing me sometimes, any tip? Or do I just need to muscle memory the timing.

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 года назад +5

      It's basically a muscle memory thing, yeah. You don't have to charge for that long; May can get her dolphin out after crouching for only a very short period of time. Keep in mind that you'll need to time the second part of the command (Forward+Slash or Up+Slash) at pretty much the same time that her anchor connects with the opponent. If you wait too long then the dolphin might not come out at all. Follow the combos in the video as best you can and you should have a feel for the timing sooner than later. Good luck out there!

  • @liuki8298
    @liuki8298 3 года назад +2

    Hey did you test these combo now that the game is not in beta anymore ? I can tell the first 2 combos are doable but I'll have to try the others.

    • @FourFaceButtons
      @FourFaceButtons  3 года назад +3

      For the most part, yeah, everything still works in much the same way but I feel like the counter hit off of a light Mr. Dolphin is much stricter than before. The opponent can also mash buttons to recover faster (indicated by the button mash graphic over their head when they get hit) and it seems like pressing any button three times quickly will be enough to safely recover. Keep it in mind that if the opponent quickly jumps up to dodge your grab, then they know exactly what they need to do to avoid this approach. You can use this to your advantage and do an anti-air or an air grab instead; it all happens too fast to properly react to so you can turn it into a halfway decent 50/50 situation. With all that being said, I think it's technically still possible to pull off that counter-into-command grab combo in any given situation, but the timing is very strict now; it might be better off doing a normal grab or something else entirely instead of risking the command grab. Also, the counter hit off of a heavy Mr. Dolphin gives you way more time to execute the command grab, but of course that one is much slower so use with caution.
      Otherwise, the jump in and aerial dive bomb combos work but they can be tough to get the timing down. The aerial dive bomb should work basically every single time if the opponent is crouching, but the timing can be very tough if they're standing. With both of these, beware of the opponent's anti-air options. The corner bounce combo works just as well and landing a command grab in the corner is basically a free wall break because of this.
