It's easy to forget that Tyler was 21 years old and not a professional musician when he with the help of two friends Chris on drums and Nick on bass, wrote, recorded and produced this album at home, three years before being signed to a record label. Just natural, raw talent.
I always felt that this song should have come before 'Friend, Please'. This song is about someone who is lost in depression, just going through the motions of 'life'. Putting on a mask of "I'm fine." as they fall deeper and deeper into depression. Crying out for death to end everything with the "Take me out and finish this waste of a life" because this person feels they are a waste. Meanwhile everyone around him believes the mask and thinks he's fine. They watch as he while appearing outwardly fine, falls through the trapdoor of depression and very likely culminates in suicide. And then should have been Friend, Please as the follow up as someone who saw behind the mask of this person. Saw just how far this person had fallen into this depressive state and is trying to break through and save them.
I have been a fan of them since 2016. I love watching people discover them and listen for the first time. I saw them live in 2018. It is a completely different way to experience their music. This album is so good speaking of the fact Tyler was only 21 with no professional help just two friends. Tylers vocals are insane. and you mentioned the meanings of the songs. You are so right. He writes his music about his experience and just his mind. I don't know if you have listened to their song called "car radio" but the meaning of that one is deep.Every thing about their music is so good and well put together. I am so glad more people are giving them the time of day to listen!
I know DJ, they are just so FREAKing talented. There’s 4 different ways to experience this band, low key under head phones, Volume all the way up at home, Stupid loud in the car, and then live in concert. You will never be disappointed. They slap so hard! You are almost done with this album ❤ looking most forward to Isle of Flightless Birds ❤ I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT 🔥🔥
I’m so happy that you’re taking the whole journey. A lot of people only check out a few songs off this album. I think it gives you a different perspective when you experience raw Tyler. ✌️😊🌼
Hey, I like your new haircut :) The song is amazing. Imo it's about the loneliness of a person struggling with a disease, in this case depression, although it can also be insomnia, and how this disease slowly eats the sick person from the inside, who keeps pretending that everything's fine, although it's not."Nothing kills a man faster than his own head" is probably my favorite quote. Stay safe y'all |-/
🔥🔥🔥🤟🤟🤟🔥🔥🔥 So yeah... What did you think... ? LOL!!! BEST reaction yet, buddy. I knew you'd appreciate this as much as I do. Thats why I recommended this song on every single reaction you've done. Just wait for Clear, Doubt, and Polarize.. just... wow. And remember bro, I won't steer you wrong!
Also, I'd like to make a suggestion for the T.O.P. cover of My Chemical Romance's song "Cancer". I came across it not long before my mom passed away from leukemia, so it was a *very* tough listen. Took me 6 tries to get all the way through it, cuz I kept having to stop. If you do check it out, bring the tissues. You might need them.
Top cover to cancer came out while my guy was fighting cancer. I avoided the song for so long, it’s beautiful but I just couldn’t listen to it for awhile after my guy passed
Love your reactions to these guys. Thank you for mentioning the car, cause it does sound so different in the car. It makes you feel things, and Tyler has talked about that in interviews. 😊
Love seeing you love the music and the talent. I would def add headphones to your ways of listening to TOP, especially to compare his early work with the masterful production skills he's picked up. Other than live, a good pair of headphones is great bc you'll hear all the fades, panning, and nuances in the mix and so many other sounds you didn't even know were there. Even if you don't do it for the reactions, please do it for yourself. :) And then, of course, going to a concert should really be non-negotiable. You won't ever be the same. ❤ |-/ 💛 🔥
@@DRichOfficialFor sure! Do you think you’ll be reacting to Regional at Best songs next? I know it’s not technically an album anymore, but the songs are so emotional. Definitely a good listen!
Im pretty sure its about lonileness and depression eating away at someone's sanity. "He wakes up early today Throws on a mask that will alter his face" i.e. hiding behind a smile or cheery disposition. "Nobody knows his real name But now he just uses one he saw on a grave" Nobody knows his real personality, all they get is one he made up. I know that personally I name characters after the names I see on gravestones; but this is also a possible reference to how dead he feels inside. "He pretends that he's okay But you should see Him in bed late at night, he's petrified Take me out, and finish this waste of a life" He's afraid of dying but wants to kill himself. "me" here is a gun or a method of suicide, I believe. The singer is taking the position of the suicidal thoughts or depression observing the sufferer. "Everyone gather around for a show Watch as this man disappears as we know Do me a favor and try to ignore As you watch him fall through a bleeding trapdoor" People who are depressed often melt away from their friends, leaving them wondering where the person they used to know has gone. The singer is telling the sufferer's friends that they should ignore his problems, which is probably a reference to the oft-repeated mantra "I'm fine." Still, the friends can see he's in trouble but they don't want to put unwanted pressure to get help on him. "He thinks that faith might be dead Nothing kills a man faster than his own head" He can't find the spirituality or faith he used to have, which meant a lot to him. It's making him even more upset, and he loses hope. "He used to see dreams at night But now he's just watching the backs of his eyes" He's not remembering his dreams, if he's sleeping at all. Insomnia can make depression worse. "'Cause nobody knows he's alive" He feels abandoned and nobody would care if he died, because he's already dead to the world.
he thinks that faith might be dead, *nothing kills a man faster than his own head.* he used to see dreams at night but now he’s just watching the backs of his eyes.
Interestingly, there are no actual drums on this album, or the next one. (Regional at Best.) Quite a bit of their music is just Tyler and some sort of electronic equipment. It definitely doesn't diminish it to me. Watching him doing performances with live looping shows me how brilliant he is, no matter if he's holding a physical instrument or not.
Take me out and finish this waste of life Everyone gather around for a show🎉 Watch as this man disappears as we know Do me a favor and try to ignore When you watch him fall through a bleeding trapdoor 'Cause nobody knows he's alive 🎶 This is exactly why i think Tyler is a musical genius with the way he creates music, i feel that it can also be interpreted as 'cause nobody knows his life' listen to Trapdoor again ❤||-// 🌼 |-/
Hello D. Rich, I would love your reactions to Isle Of Flightless Birds :3 Greetings from LATAM, I really like the reactions you make about twenty one pilots (I'm using Google Translator to write this XD)
If you like a good lyric breakdown at all you should check out hozier ( skip take me to church tho. It doesnt define his music at all. ) great song too tho

The lyric is “nothing kills man faster than his own head”
Similar to the lyrics in Migraine: “sometimes to stay alive, you gotta kill your mind”

Oh, and I'll let you figure the song out yourself, meaning wise. Think about masks.
I love how you almost get mad at how good it is 😂
