Back in the 1990's I was @ Crystal Grove a few times. Are you in the front quarry, closer to the road? Where on the propertty is the location of the black Herks? Did you know that if you have some type of pail with a cover, you can dig and take the subsoil/sand and later when you are home, sift the sand thru a flour-type or tea strainer over another container to remove the coarser material. Once you have eliminated that, you should be able to find small crystals, anywhere from 1/4 inch down to micros which canbe as small as 2mm long x 1mm or smaller. I've sometimes found other things. Use tweezers to pick them up. In the past, I've used Iron Out to clean the crystals using empty yougurt containers, various sizes depending on amount of crystals. The Iron Out was before I learned about using CLR instead. It depends on how much iron staining there is on the crystals. Have used nylon knee-hi's which I no longer wear; cut it shorter, but leave the foot portion attached to the leg portion, which becomes a 'sock'. Since the crystals are small & you don't want to loose them as you remove them from their 'bath', place the 'sock' into another container with the open end draped over the rim of the container & secure with a rubber band. Dump the container of crystals into the sock, which than can be raised & lowered into another container containing a mixture of baking soda/water to neutralize the acid, & then clear water. There is one further step to bring the 'brightness' back, but it's been over 20 years since I last did this & memory doesn't recall this last step. Have fun hunting 😊 for crystals.
