What exactly are the Black Herkimer "Diamond" Quartz crystals @ Crystal Grove "Diamond" Mine in St. Johnsville, NY? Can we, the viewers, see photos of them? Is/does the interior of the "diamond" quartz have pieces/specks of Anthraxolite within the crystal? Lots of questions I'd like answers for!
@larrykelley1818. Sometimes Herkimer "diamond" quartz, sizes from micro, 1mm tip-to-tip to larger sizes are found on the surface & sometimes one must dig in the dirt to find them, if you're in the front pit. Sometimes a light sprinkling rain washes dirt off the crystal faces, making them easier to find. Hope this answers your question from two years ago.
In the mid-to late 1990's, also one weekend in 20I0, a friend & I were at Crystal Grove. Did find some nice individual crystals, rough with crystal pockets, and took home a bucket of sandy sub-soil where it can be sifted thru a window-screen sifter and a tea strainer sifter over paper 3-sided open 'box' to remove the sand & find micros from .05mm to 1/4" herkimers. Sometimes other things are found in sifted soil.
Those guys are tearing up the earth a couple of terriers
Awesome dig! I love Crystal Grove!
