2022-08 - Self Closing Flood Barrier (SCFB)

Self closing flood barrier (SCFB) is simulated by Flow 3D to illustrate how this floating flood barrier can prevent overflow from stream course.
I have heard of this self closing flood barrier about 4 years ago when working on a drainage improvement project in Hong Kong. I like its design to float up light-weight wall panel by water for flood protection without any mechanical and electrical parts. It was regrettable that maintenance agent of drainage authority preferred to use concrete flood wall instead due to its easy maintenance.
In this simulation, water level rises up 2m very quickly in 10s and the use of a 100mm dia pipe to lift up flood barrier appears appropriate. In real life, water level rises up much slower, may be in an hour or longer depending size of the drainage basin. A service pit can be installed between the stream course and flood barrier with a water intake opening at higher level. This could prevent the flood barrier to float up too early.

I am not sure what you mean by a demo project model. You can try to see if there is a local distributor of SCFB in your area. I have talked to a distributor in HK and they visited my office to explain everything in details.
