can't dump your shower water everywhere, or stealth, in the winter. consider cutting out the floor and building an insulated box around your tank so it is now inside. further, since you have the rixen, run a hydronic pipe along the tank. easier to manipulate the drain pipes too.
I think you are one of the best van build! You explain really well so that even an amateur like me is able to accomplish anything if you have the mind and desire to do it! Thank you!
Cristina Kim wow that is awesome! Thank you very much and Thanks for watching, glad it is helping!! One step at a time and don’t cut corners, if you are building from scratch you might as well do it right so you only have to do it once.
Thx Jeff. This project just justified my buying a hoard of 3/8” true stainless steel threaded rod at a used building material non-profit thrift store. $7 each for 6 foot rods. I bought all they had. A 3 foot piece at Home Depot is $10 and I prefer to reuse by buying used but like new materials and give my money to a non-profit.
Good job, I've noticed as these tanks age they often sag from liquids and with this design could slip out from between the brackets, I would place a stiff aluminum sheet support panel on the bottom prevent it and anywhere flying rocks or road debris while driving could puncture the tank especially in the front.
Tanks a lot Jeff, nice to see the progress on the grey water tank. I like your improvised breather, another great improvisation. Looking forward to the next video.
Did you ever make it easier! Your design is perfect for our build and that you linked everything just saved me weeks of going back and forth to the plumbing supply store. Thank you! BTW- I also appreciate the bulkhead fitting for the furnace. You are my go-to for all things heating and plumbing.
Do you think 3/8" will be a big enough pipe to drain your tank? Between hair, soap, food bits, and all the other yummy stuff that will get into your grey tank, seems like it's maybe a little undersized? I know it's what the tank already had in it, but just wondering if that thought came up in the planning.
Weldon Dares no experience needed, just fight the urge to rush and take it one step at a time. The video process is actually helping me take my time and double check everything!! Thanks again for watching, glad you enjoyed!!
Yep. The drain is far too small. There is very little force driving the movement of water out, so you'll need a larger drain OR lots and lots of paitence.
That 3/8 drain is going to plug with hair and grease in no time. How do I know? I added a 3/8 ball valve to drain my tank and its constantly getting plugged.
This is a concern to me as well but is what the tank was plumbed for from the factory. If it does become an issue I will share the details and the future plan I have to fix it if it does become an issue. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It is very good to see you again Jeff even if you kept your shirt on !! LOL Congratulations on your 1000+ subscribers !!! I always knew that you would do it !!
Nice work!!! I would definitely use lock nuts or tread lock if not double nut everything to make sure nothing comes loose from vibration…looking forward to the next video 🤙
what kind of water heater are you going to use for your hot water? I'm considering contacting Rixen's Enterprise that use the Espar with Glycol. Do you have any sugestion?
Such a great video!! I especially like the part of how you can use water in the winter time!! I clicked on this P Trap though, and I didn't see the little valve or screw opening? Is it on this one you linked? Or what is is called or where did you purchase? I'd love to be able to make this design for our gray tanks.
Hi Jeff 💎🤩 congratulations❣️ Your a successful man who knows his worth...you effortlessly have made this build look attainable for the rest of us and I thank you for sharing this and your beautiful, honest soul. I’ve always been impressed with you since one of your early videos...you on a dirt bike trip with your friends 😉 Living in Alaska we have cold seasons too, so we ski, snowmobile, hike, and enjoy everything winter in Alaska has to offer. Just yesterday I climbed a mountain.., 5 hrs wow, what a test, no joke Jeff it was fantastic! Always keep moving my friend and much success today and always 🙏🤩🦋🙌 Yes I’d love a live video, let’s do it 🚐 let’s have some fun and enjoy 😉 See ya when I see ya Jeff 🍾🥂 From your #1 fan...🦋 Dimity
Dimity Long thank you so much 🙏. Haha effortlessly, glad I make it look that way for the viewer!! 😂 Wow 5 hour hike, crazy but well done!!! I can’t wait to see Alaska, it is definitely a bucket list place for me and I will have my dirt bike and skis ready for that journey!! Thank you my #1 fan always a pleasure to hear from you!!
@@DaresDrives Jeff you are personally invited to come and stay with us on our property, and we will show you Wild Alaska and all she has to offer my friend 🤗 Come see the midnight sun😉 just say when Jeff! See you next time!🙏🤗☀️
Love you build series. You are really doing a great job explaining everything and your video editing is top notch. I think I'll do a grey tank like this on my van. Not sure if I'm ready to tackle that hydronic heater system though. Just wondering what the tent is you built around your van. I live in Minnesota and I don't have a garage door tall enough to get the van into. Looks like a great idea!
Be careful if you buy that magnetic belt that’s being advertised on your channel. when you leave the hardware store the security guard might stop you for not paying for all those nuts and bolts that accidentally got attached to your belt
OK, finally you were way too thrifty on your choice of thickness of plumber’s tape you used, which you call strap. That will rust through in no time. “Both zinc plating and galvanizing is an application of zinc plating. The big difference is thickness: zinc plating is normally 0.2 mils thick. Hot dip galvanizing might be 1.0 mil thick - you get over 5 times the protection with galvanizing. All true galvanizing is hot dip galvanizing. Parts to be galvanized are submerged in molten, liquid zinc; hence the name “hot dip”.” Correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t think that ready rod or any of the metal you are using is hot dipped AKA true galvanizing and therefore is not meant for outdoor use.
Dude your instructions and demonstrations are awesome!👍🏼
There's the Man !! Excellent build workmanship !!
Thanks Sam!!
I'm reminded of why I love watching you. You're fun, knowledgeable, and thrifty. It's great to be inspired by Canadian vloggers!
Perfect, thank you very much!!! If you aren't learning hopefully you are laughing!!!
Thrifty? Rarely. Can’t wait for the final tally
@@DaresDrives You would rank very high on a Jordan Peterson conscientiousness test.

Hi Jeff!
They sell some electric valves so you could turn it on and open the electric drain valve from inside the van.
Thanks so much. First tank install-- im going with a bare bones setup in the van but cant skimp on an undermounted grey tank.

Great video!
@@miker2585 thanks for watching
Hi Jeff what’s your strategy to use the shower during Calgary winter? Cheers. Love the channel and the build thus far.
I am curious on this one also. Is a grey tank heater can do the job. I don't think it's a good idea to spill the shower water to the parking lot.
I'm not looking forward to this part but your video made me feel better about it all
Woo Hoo 1000 + subscribers !!
I loved your production on this video !!
Great tanks Jeff !!
Sam B pretty sweet hey!!!! Had a little celebration over here.. Thanks for watching.
Tanks a lot Jeff, nice to see the progress on the grey water tank. I like your improvised breather, another great improvisation. Looking forward to the next video.
Tanks for watching!!! 😉.
I think the modified breather should work perfect. If not, I will purchase a real one later and change it out. Easy job!!
Tanks a lot!
I guess im the 10.1K subscriber.

That is a great saving jeff and probably better quality keep the good work up.
Awesome, glad you like! Thanks for watching Paul.
Are you worried at all about the 3/8 drain clogging because its so small? I have the same tank and am debating drilling a hole for a 3/4" drain.
Yep. The drain is far too small. There is very little force driving the movement of water out, so you'll need a larger drain OR lots and lots of paitence.

There's another dog that snuck in there somewhere !! : 0
LOL,Good eye! Yes Winston had a girlfriend over for a few days... Don't worry they slept in separate bedrooms!!
Dares Drives I was going to say the same thing. At the 1:43 minute mark. She needs an introduction.
Matthew Carpenter here name is Peek, she hung out for a couple weeks with us. But Peek is gone now and Winston is single again!! 😉

Yeah getting cold outside again.. Thanks Rose, its lots of work but I love every minute of it.
because this will be 4 season van, how will you prevent your grey water tank from freezing in winter?
Great job! Looks very professional and “minty fresh”!! Thanks for making this sooo much easier for me! I appreciate it!!
Perfect.. Thanks for watching Sherry, happy to hear the vid brought value!!
Good idea on using the metal strap on the bottom.
Thank you, just some added protection to ensure nothing moves!!
Is that 20 gallon about the biggest gray tank that can fit under Sprinter? 2019
hahaha the doggie dance soo cute! Congrats!! You work hard too.
TrustNotMyHeart haha awesome thank you!! You are correct and think this video and build stuff is only my part time project!!
Nice job Jeff!
Thanks Randy, glad you enjoyed!!
Hi Dares, is this for Sprinter 170? I am looking for a grey water tank for my Springer 170 as well. It is hard to find the right size.
Congrats on the 1000 subscribers .. well done👊
Thank you so much 😀
I was wondering if you primed the breakers before you painted them? I have always been told to use a self etching primer before painting galvanized.
Yes everything gets primer before paint!!!
awesome i hope it works
Yes me too, that will definitely be a positive!! Thanks for watching Arthur..
Nice work!!! I would definitely use lock nuts or tread lock if not double nut everything to make sure nothing comes loose from vibration…looking forward to the next video 🤙

Awesome!! How did You mount it to the frame, You are talking about bolt but I would like to see it. I can't figured this out :(
That is coming up next, stay tuned!

HAHAHA awesome, thanks Dan!!

Cristina Kim I bought that exact kit, check out episode 24 I show and talk about it while we are pre wiring the Rixen system.

u should rubber coat the tank to protect it from rocks & stuff hitting it.
I debated covering it, but all my trailers were exposed tanks and never had an issue.
For me I’ll prefer weekend evening UK time 😁

I am afraid all those cast iron elbows, pipes, threaded adapters will rust like hell after the first ride on winter salty roads...
They are galvanized steel fittings not cast iron. Salt and water should have little to no affect long term... Thanks for watching and commenting
Actually, the are cast iron. They are cast, then galvanized, then machined. And yes they are well protected.
That galvanized steel
Yes it is! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed.
I didn’t know Canada had 4 seasons
