- In this art vlog I share some new paintings I've finished and trace their origins back to an old sketchbook, I share some of my favorite art books and talk a little bit about art, life and sketchbooks.

Hi Helen,love your latest work,very inspirational,thank you for sharing.This is my default position when working,wanting to go crazy wild and free,but thinking.....oops I,m not sure,when i do get through the pain barrier its so great,I just forget being Mrs Neat n Tidy and the journey is incredible and the time goes so quickly,but I have to stop myself thinking too much,thats when I fail.I do find myself having a nosey over your amazingly interesting book shelves,i wander off thinking....OOOh,thats a nice piece of pottery,and have to rerun that bit of your video,what crazy funky minds we arty folk have.Thanks for this video and all your others,I look forward to the next one.x

Helen, your art is so beautiful and an inspiration. Great art book too. I was sorry to read in the comments on your last video that you had a rough time with long Covid. I’m glad things have improved for you. I live with chronic illness so know how difficult it can be to keep reaching for the things that give you joy. Thank you for another great video.

Wow Mel that’s super kind of you thank you. I’ll put colour choosing on my list of possible topics, thank you. The thing is I tend to do it as I go. I don’t plan it..I often only have a couple of colours of paint on my palette at a time… I just develop it organically….but i am always thinking about colour! Xx

Hi Helen, As an intuitive artist I too am very intrigued by the mixing up of the realistic and the wild imaginative. But so far I have not been able to really allow myself to do so. It’s crazy, what on earth is holding me back? Although people complement me on the connection with my inner child they see in my work, I feel I sill have too many restrictions. I just finished reading your book and found it very inspiring to find ways to overcome these restrictions. I will now read through the book again and put some of the suggested ideas into practice. What you wrote about never removing a page from your sketchbook has perhaps been the most valuable advice for me. Thank you so much for your wonderful work Helen 💖🙏💖😊
Ah you are lovely Rika. Art making can stir up all sorts of vulnerabilities, associations, roadblocks and self imposed restrictions can’t it. I think that if you are aware of the direction you want to head in then you are already winning. take tiny steps in the right direction and treat your creative self with grace and kindness…I think we have to sometimes nurture our creativity like we are dealing with a small frightened child…create a safe place for it, give it encouragement and lots of kindness…xx

Oh I love your enthusiasm. I’m at the very early stages of planning… I’m pootling about and trying to corral my numerous ideas into a sensible structure. I’m hoping it will be ready in April… but I like to take my time and give myself the time and grace to take as long as it takes…xxx

Ahhhhhh - so enjoyed your video! Your enthusiasm just makes me want to dust off my sketchbook and do something in there! I just end up doing color swatches, etc. Your sketchbooks are so full of energy, just like you! I'm still finding my self- and style in my art, but it can be a struggle! I think I like too many styles. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ❤
I think it’s good to try on lots of hats and eventually you’ll find you in your art. I’ve been making art for 20 years now and I’m still finding my style..it’s a lifetimes pursuit..with no end destination so enjoy the journey xxx

Ah thank you. I don’t sell them, they are quite easy to get hold of here in the UK they’re from a brand called Daler Rowney 170gsm paper size A3 and I purchase mine from Cass Art..for about £17
