Solar means sun. So it's basically the same as the screens we had in our house in the 70s. That I can buy now for $15-25 ,from my local hardware store. Ok, thanks.

It's very obvious you don't know what you are talking about. Having your house fully screened in makes a massive difference. There's also hundreds of different fabrics to choose from, but Pfifer Suntext and Texteline fabric are designed to block out the sun.
What about loss of free solar heat in winter? Everyone I've seen promoting solar screens never tells the whole story. What you save in the summer could get fully eaten up by increased cost to heat in winter.
Just take them off
Yes, you could take them off to get benefits of the light but youre also getting more of the damaging effects of the light..even in winter. Electricity in summer months is high because of central ac. Gas bills are higher in winter months because of gas furnace. But gas prices are cheaper than electric, in general. You could wear shorts all year long in Lake Havasu
