She showed excellent understanding of all the questions, applied a wide range of good vocabulary. She spoke without awkward pauses. What else do you want from a person working in a medical field? She is not going to get a degree in linguistics. So the accent is a personal matter in this case. I think she has done great work having mastered this level of English.

Also, there are many English accents among native English speakers as well and at times we find these more unique and difficult than other language accents. Ex. NY Accent, Brooklyn, Irish, Scottish, Ausi, Kiwi, Southern States, West coast and so on. So really there is no need to be too concerned about accents as long as you can be understood.

No examiner would deliver the questions like this - you never say "why or why not" at the end! An examiner would also interrupt you if you start giving personal examples in Part 3. The "examiner" also did nothing to challenge her in the final part of the exam (to see if she can really defend an opinion). This is not an accurate representation of what to expect on exam day - do not rely on this as a guide for the real test.

    • @Aehelp

You mean "do not rely on this". Well, that is just some terrible advice. Many students have performed exceptionally well after relying on these interviews and have shown their appreciation. Take a look at the comments and feedback on the other speaking videos. Thanks.

    • @shell2727

I'm not questioning your teaching, but this is a poor example of what really happens in a real speaking exam, and probably accounts for why students are so surprised when I interrupt them in Part 3 when they start giving personal examples or they speak repetitively. My problem is that this should be billed as a rough copy of what happens on test day, and not an example of a "real exam", which is most definitely is not.@@Aehelp

For those who r saying no need to have a good pronunciation or vocabulary, I would say that u dunno the assessment system in IELTS.
    It's divided by 4:
    1- pronunciation
    2- vocabulary
    3- grammar
    4- cohesion
If u divide 9/4 we get 2.25 pts for each section.

Would you all stop complaining about her accent and focus on the message?
Her accent does not impede communication. None watsoeva! Period.
There are whole bunch of accents of English only in England let alone around the world.
Fo real! Who is there to judge the accent? What are the criteria for that?
When you speak English your job is to convey your ideas (consisting of image words and connecting words) into someone's head so that your listener/speaker gets the same message. Preferably, without being asked to repeat. She did helluva job. Well deserved.

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  5 лет назад +1

You are exactly right Alex. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions around the world of what fluent, (or band 9 - 'expert English') actually means. A fundamental reason for this is that many people focus on the 'English' component but not on the 'communication' aspect. It is challenging to help many of these people understand that a person does not need a perfect accent, rare vocabulary or idiomatic language to be an excellent communicator using English. Anyway, I'm glad you have the right idea and voice this to others.

Anyone wondering if it’s possible to get a high score (7+) with several grammatical mistakes and other kind of imperfections in your speech - yes, it does work the way that the examiner pays closer attention to positive sides of your performance rather than counting your mistakes. I have a friend who passed the speaking part with score 7, even though I’ve heard how he speaks and it’s far from perfect. What helped him achieve such prominent results was his impressive vocabulary on the topic he was asked questions about and his confidence in speech. As I’m myself taking IELTS in April, I will be further on focusing on general or even in-depth knowledge in certain areas and up-to-date topics. Ted talks should come in handy :)

I think accent has nothing to do with the mark. Though, I found many of her answers off the topic! She just talked for the sake of talking!!!! Look at the first question' Do you study or work? She said that apart from studying she worked on her IELTS' . Girl, this is not work, everybody is getting ready for this exam. We don't need to know where you're going further. Everybody takes the exam with a purpose and pne shouldn't influence an examiner.
Here I have a question for the examiners, How does it feel to hear a well-organised delirium pouring out of one's mouth? Are not you buffled of questions to ask further if you hear irrelevant answer?
Even the native English may not talk that fast and still think on what to answer. I have a close friend in England who has her major in English literature, so even she doesn't hurry while speaking. A person may speak fast and sound really natural when they know what they are talking about, not in any other way! Those interviews create a bad impression on this language, sorry for saying that again.
I've had my test recently. Questions were about the school. You see, that was such a boring topic of which I had no the slightest interest to talk about.., Therefore, I've probabply performed bad, even if I had a wide range of vocabulary when don't feel preassure and don't have to muse of what to answer on silly questions.

""It was a boring topic to discuss"" sounds like a poor excuse for your performance. The part of IELTS preparation is to train yourself to be able to express your views even on the boring subjects. Same is with Reading. Nobody cares whether you find the text boring or not. The part some IELTS prep courses and online bloggers miss sometimes is the training of attitude towards IELTS. A lot of people get bad scores not because of their poor English but rather: 1) lack of time management skills (yes, it reminds a lot sports training, proper timing is essential) 2) wrong attitude

Can’t believe this performance is regarded as an example of high band score. 2 years ago I took IELTS in Moscow. And If I’d talked the same way as she she doe I most definitely would’ve gotten 6.0 at best.
