Yeah, no. This should be called the Mach-E. Inspired by Mustang, not a Mustang.
Make an electric Mustang coupe, with two doors, and rear wheel drive. That’s a Mustang.
I agree huge miss there. Just call it a mach-e. maybe come out with a mustang with 2 seats and rear motor a couple of years later. They could take on the c8 with it and have some fun sell some cars and all that.
Yep. Way too many doors. As a five-time Mustang owner, I fear that Ford has lost its way. Sad, really.
Or the idiots could have just made a hybrid mustang and still keep the v8

Fords first gas powered car was the Model "T". This is Fords first real contender electric car and should be called the Model "E".
Look Ford, the Mach e is a great suv-crossover that definitely deserves to compete with Tesla HOWEVER it just does not carry on the mustang name well. It is a heavy, electric SUV- who’s is the opposite of the mustang. If you want to make it, then just call it the Mach e, everyone would be happy.

I love my Fords and have stuck with Ford for their trucks and the Mustang from the start of my love for cars. My dream *currently* is the 2020 Mustang GT500 in orange with the carbon fiber track package. My all-time dream car is a 1969/1970 Mustang Boss 429 in black. The Mach-E kinda hurt when I saw it looks nothing like a Mustang except a little in the headlights and taillights. If you're going to call it a Mustang then make it out of a S550 chassis. It'll be a direct competitor to Tesla's Roadster and I'm sure that Ford could find a way to make it even more affordable as well. The Mach-E is not a Mustang. Sorry, Ford but being a lifetime Ford guy, I'm not impressed with this. I doubt anyone from Ford will read this comment but oh well.

Bill Ford should have stuck to his gut and not have allowed it be called a Mustang. It’s a really nice looking EV but not a Mustang. Ford Model-E, Ford Galaxie or just Ford Mach-E are better names and you can still say it has Mustang inspired design. Then do a proper all electric Mustang as an option for the next generation Stang.
Wow! Am from a country which only got Mustang recently available to buy. I grew up loving mustang and gaming using them. So this actually hurts for ME! Can't even imagine all those who own one and other hardcore fans!

So basically you all were resistive to the idea of calling it a “Mustang” but you talked yourselves into it. Why not just call it the Mach E and call it a day?
Electric is the future and the future is exciting, but please keep the mustang emblem on a 2 door coupe. No Mustang CUV/SUV, Mustang Wagon, Mustang pickup or Mustang minivan or sedan. Serious Mustang owners want it because of what it is: a fast 2 door coupe. If you attach the Mustang brand on anything, you dilute it. Should just called this The FORD Mach E, leaving Mustang out of it. I was really hoping to see a dual electric motor AWD 2 door coupe that would blow all other sports cars away. I would order an electric Mustang immediately. Don't get me wrong, I love this SUV, it's awesome! I would buy one ONLY if it wasn't a Mustang. Everyone will look at that SUV as a mustang wannabe. A mistake. The 2021 Mustang II. Hope Ford reconsiders.

The original Mustangs gradually became watered down and by the time the Mustang II came around the name Mustang was just a marketing gimmick.. Later it was improved to a great extent but a 4400 pound car is not what the original designers had in mind. It may be fast but it's got no relation to the car they built 55 years ago except for a grill and a horse emblem.
If they're going to make it 1500 pounds heavier and add all kind of electronic crap why not also electrify it, put two more doors on it and still call it a Mustang? It won't be a 1965 Mustang bt neither wast the 2019 model.

They could've called it just the Mach-E and used "inspired by Mustang" in the marketing. Actually calling it one though is a joke and deep down they all know it. The first electric Mustang should have been a performance-focused coupe.

Ford knows where the markets are going.
They’re going to SUV’s and trucks; and they’re going electric - not because of the environment or cost of fuel or anything else like that - though those are all factors - but simply because it’s getting ridiculous that 7-seater sedans that weigh 3,500+ lbs are now capable of beating every production sports car out there, in sheer performance. That’s changing the game here, and it doesn’t make sense to keep making cars the old way when they’re just lagging behind - Especially in all the performance vehicle segments. It’s ballsy to make this new car a Mustang, but it makes perfect sense, and I think they’re gonna succeed.

Reading the comments below and seeing what ford is doing recently it is obvious that listening to there clients is not what ford does first with the cars and now this ford sales are going down big time
Cool car for sure but “something no one has ever experienced” is a bit of a stretch considering Tesla has been selling the model s since 2012
Calling it by the mustang name is the only way to bring attention to it, in order to compete with bands such as Tesla
What’s next a mustang truck
I watched the whole video with a hope that I was missing something and this was in fact really worthy of the name Mustang. All I found was that even the people worked on it wasn't really convinced that this was a Mustang. I am sorry but this is still a 4-door, electric SUV. You could have called it just Mach-E, kept the styling heritage from Mustang and launched a new brand for the future. This, unfortunately, is a disgrace to history. The whole thing reeks of marketing rather than what is trying to be promoted as the future of the deep tradition. Even the fact that Ford needed to release a 20-minute short film to try to explain why it makes sense to call it a Mustang is upsetting. Throughout the movie, the visual of the car is always accompanied by an original Mustang or it's sound. You know what is missing. You know what is wrong. It might drive right but it looks and sounds very, very wrong.
As a mustang owner and hardcore enthusiast since being a kid i believe the pony is something that should never be messed with. That being said, i think Ford understands this and i have full confidence in them to make this car worthy of the mustang name. I will definitely be buying one.

Hopefully the value of the Fox Body ,SN95, New Edge and the S197 go up in value. Cuz there the real mustangs. After 45 years I think the mustang ii is cooler now 😂
All the untold costs in design, R&D, focus testing...and the thing looks like every other anonymous, plebeian crossover on the market. I’m sure it’s going to be a hit in the burgeoning EV segment, but calling this thing a Mustang is about on par with the ‘74 - ‘78 Mustang II...insulting to the brand.
No matter, I’m sure Bill Ford will be grinning all the way to the bank!

You should have made a big deal about the Lithium. Instead it was a blip on the scene as all the focus was on this. Consumers didn't have a chance to test, or even investigate an electric Mustang, before you threw this down our throats.

When I bought my first Mustang it was amazing the power the way it hug the road the sound of the V8 making a roar down the road. Now now we are going to dead silent I have mixed feelings on this I love how it's designed its beautiful but someday all cars will be electric. I would actually have to drive one to get my full opinion about it. Honestly you should have named it the Falcon or Galaxy.
Ford needs Carroll Hall Shelby, right now.
Even just change the tail lights to something non Mustang and call it the Fusion-E , it should work well, it's a nice crossover just not a Mustang!
What "Mustang" stands for?
It stands for "the only chance we can get people to buy our cars."
Congratulations, Ford, for telling the story of this hugely important evolutionary leap so beautifully. Kudos to Chrome Productions for putting this together for you all. I'm a nearly 65 year old life-long car guy who finally was able to buy my dream car... a 2008 Mustang Bullitt... in May of 2008. My 8 years with that car were some of the happiest of my life, including road trips from NYC to L.A. and from Chicago to L.A. along Route 66 with other members of the Mustang Bullitt car club I wound up joining. I hope people appreciate the bold risk you've taken... a necessary one given the changing world around us... and one you absolutely did NOT shy away from. Good for you for going for the gold with this vehicle. The auto industry is does not exist in isolation from that larger world. And I think you've made a great start in offering your customers a way to live in that new world and still feel the Mustang's spirit is with them.
Change the name you still have time
I am a mustang GT owner, I love it. This is also a mustang, and I cannot wait to drive one. I think all the other enthusiasts are missing the point. We are never losing the heritage of the coupe, at some point it is time to look at the future. Innovation doesn’t come from doing the same thing forever, things evolve and change. So does the mustang. The critics will likely change their mind once they drive it. Electric offers power and fun that cannot be had with a petrol engine, tuned like a mustang, this car will be fantastic.
Sure its a mustang in name , but not in meaning , lines , age demographic , feel , or future nostalgic memories . Mustang = hard and fast reckless doing young agressive stuff , drag strips diyers adding upgrades (even those are done by ford now ) , this yes fast family suv who took too much from the tesla play book . At least make it a hybrid and 2 door kill the ipad minimalistic pusut of driving fast with real buttons .

This isn’t a Mustang. Imagine all the soccer moms who will think that owning this means they’re a “Mustang” owner. Take off the Mustang name, keep it the Mach E but this isn’t a Mustang. You’re literally destroy the heritage.

Not many people have a problem with the car itself. It's a beautiful car and will be an excellent response to Tesla's rise. That said, it is disappointing that you decided to name it Mustang. Naming an SUV a Mustang is a slap in the face to all Mustang owners and enthusiasts.
Nice video. Ford is certainly aware of Mustang heritage. I think the most important part is the driving dynamic of the car. A Mustang owner needs to enjoy driving it.

Congratulations to Ford for doing something bold and risky in the EV space. This is very exciting to see. Hopefully they make them in significant quantities and encourage their dealer networks to sell them.
Ten years ago, "FORD LIVES" was on the cover of Automobile magazine. The vehicle on the cover was the new Taurus, a product known for change, segment disruption, versatility, and performance (SHO). This product should be a Taurus.
I really do appreciate this video, and regardless of the naysayers, change will have to happen eventually, and this is a great approach. -Current Mustang Owner
I have to give credit where credit is due. I initially reacted the same way as a lot people. A mustang should not be an SUV. But after seeing this car more and more online, the mustang badge is the perfect way to symbolize Ford's commitment to an electric future. This looks like an incredible car. And for the people that are still upset, just remember this is an addition to the Mustang family, not a replacement.

Here are my thoughts and feelings...
I love the Mach E! Mustang is an ICON not just a nameplate. This is not an icon just an entry into the electric market. Sorry Ford Motor Company please remove the Mustang name. Keep the styling, keep the Mach E name, hell tell everyone the Mustang pioneered the way and inspired the Mach E. But for the love of all things pony, drop the Mustang name. What I currently own: 2017 Mustang EcoBoost, 2017 F150, 2013 Focus, 2005 Focus, 1996 F250 and a 1973 Mustang Coupe. We are in the market for the upcoming Bronco or the Mach E so please know that my comments are from a tried and true Ford Man, not a facebook keyboard warrior. Thanks.
I must admit, that body style with Mustang cues is growing on me. I'm not a Ford guy, but I like cars when they're done right. Next, a non-electric version with the turbo four and six speed.😁🙏

I don't like the name but I love the SUV.
I like the part when the girl said . Mustang means driving fast down the high way and listening to high volume music. I had my first mustang at age 17 . It was a 2007 had a car accident. Was without a car for almost 2 years until I got my hand on a 2009 stick shift 49th anniversary. Oh boy its definitely a car that's staying with me for the rest of my life. ' now I'm looking forward the 2020 mustang .
