This wolf man Del Toro film is extremely underrated. It went back to the Talbot roots. I loved it
This is my 2nd favorite Werewolf film ever! Only the original Universal tops it for me.
The Lawrence Talbot Werewolf is beyond incredible! The scenes where he is running on the rooftops are so jaw dropping!

BTW, speaking of werewolves. After YEARS of searching I finally found the werewolf movie I loved as a kid and it's The Howling V. 😊 I rewatched it, and I still love it!!!
I haven't watched this one in a very long time either. I'm excited to hear such great things about it. I'm actually going to watch the new 4K version right now
You sold me on this one! I'm a huge fan of werewolf movies, but I've always been lukewarm about this one, so it's great that the director is finally getting a chance to bring his complete vision to the fans. Thanks for the review!
The Director's cut isn't a new thing. It was available on the dvd version of this movie. I would know i had this movie on dvd for years and it had the director's cut on it.

Like you I also didn’t remember it being very good, mainly because the CGI transformation ruined it for me. Then it popped up on Netflix about 2 months ago and I watched it again. I loved it. The whole werewolf make up effect is just amazing. So definitely picked the 4k up.
The only better werewolf movie than this is 'An American Werewolf In London' . Absolute gold IMO .

Your review got me interested in checking this one out. I rented it way back when it first came out and I remember liking it well enough; I’ve never been as off put by less than stellar CGI as most people. I remember liking Anthony Hopkins performance. He’s always reliably good, especially when he’s playing it really pulpy
I loved him in this!! I am not offput by the CGI either....it was cutting edge at the time!!
Do you think they will make a steel book of this?

Spot on review Chase! I watched this last night and I was blown away. It's the best 4K that I've seen this year for sure. Audio soundtrack is amazing and the transfer is fantastic. Really great movie!

Well, I, too, am going to blind buy based on your recommendation. We usually have similar tastes.
I have to admit that I was not interested when this came to theaters.
I finally watched the original and love it. I like the cast and am a fan of Rick Baker’s other work.
I have struggled with the scenery/backdrop of movies since the 2000s as they feel too … slick? and seek computer generated. I hope this one really captures the atmosphere of what I think older London would have been like.
I've struggled with the scenery/backdrop since the early 2000s too. That slick look is generic looking to me. Major turnoff.
@LanceThigpen there is certainly a little polishing to the background but they add a lot of fog, atmosphere and grime to it to help rough it up...the main house and town in the movie are very real and gritty... I was blown away by the quality and I was also blown away at how much the directors cut changed the movie for the better...I re-watched it to make sure I wasn't just over excited and it was still great!
I had it pre-ordered then I canceled it cuz I was on a freeze myself and then I bought that huge shout factory haul.... Which shipped yesterday? Thank God so maybe I can watch silver bullet 4k before Halloween.... But I definitely want this so I'm glad it got a good transfer. Yeah the director's cut is definitely more bloody. Saw it in 2010 when it came out and I loved the original version but when I saw the directors cut on Blu-ray I was blown away.

I really like this movie, especially the Unrated version. I’ve never understood the hate I always read about online. I also really liked the movie Werewolf: The Beast Among Us which was originally planned as a spin-off to The Wolfman

Unrated and some of these features on bluray already , I’m curious how much better it is than the bluray version if it’s worth the upgrade , Bluray was on a 50gb disc too, great video ❤

Just ordered because of review . Great job. Definitely a keeper and the film itself went under the radar but the cast and technical merits are top notch. Can’t wait the get it delivered. A little pricey but they have pulled out all the stops for this great release. I have the special edition Blu Ray which isn’t bad hopefully this version will knock it out of the park 👍🏻😎👍🏻
love to hear it! I dont take recommendations lightly because money is tight for most of us but it is totally worth it

BOTH CUTS + ALL EXTRAS on a 50GB Blu ray disc?!! WTF?!
(It HAS to be seamless branching- or the cuts will be 15GB apiece)
those versions are a quarter of the resolution so it is easier to compress them onto a bluray but it probably is branching for the film versions...but I could also see both versions being about 22.5 GBs each and the extra features being 5GBs
2010 you could get really good CGI. 2024 you can get really bad CGI. It's more about the time you're willing to give the effect artists. That said, I think you sold me, and this isn't even my genre.
I think I will be picking this up. I actually like the movie and I am a fan of Emily Blunt and Del Toro.

Strange because it's only a 2K DI upscaled to 4K.
I dont see that info listed anywhere.... just says 4k restoration BUT you are talking about a fairly new film shot on 35mm then brought back out to 4k if so - far different than a 40 year old DI... and "upscaled" and "scanned and restored" are not the same either....but again I cant find anywhere that confirms it was a 2k DI upscale
@@AVAPopCultureit’s definitely a restoration not upscale , do you have bluray? I’m trying to figure out if it’s a huge difference , mind you my tv isn’t state of the art 4k lol, just a cheap Hisense 4k
In a 27 minutes review of the 4K edition of this movie, this dude devoted exactly only ONE MINUTE to thee film quality department; and as that, he only said: 'It's a beautiful picture'. And that's it. What? Never again I'll watch his reviews. He just gave his impressions of the movie as such but he never reviewed the DISC in itself, the techical details and assesments, which is the main reason why one watches these reviews. Waste of time.
LOL except for that whole part where I reviewed the aspects of the disc and put the back cover that showed them on the full screen...you mean except for that? - you know, the part anyone can read from the back of the disc or anywhere else for themselves?

You said it: that is something that I can read for myself. So why bother watching your 'review' if you are not going to comment anything different or new from what appears in that back cover.
When a watch a review of a disk I expect a description or critique of the black levels, the contrast, increase or decrease of resolution, how about the HDR or DV, grain structure, color correction the palette, etc and etc.
Your answer is as lazy as your 'review'.

I talked about the technical aspects...I talked about how filmic it looked, how they shot on film, the perfect grain (which is a pointless discussion) if you have followed my channel you'd know why I dont spend tons of time talking about pointless things...check out my video "Why most 4k reviews are wrong" if you want detailed analysis of everything....or you can go watch more stuff with buzzwords by fans who have never made films, shot on film, made and color graded movies, etc etc... if you are looking fro talks about "grain structure" and "bit rate" you wont find that here...got to that other video and find out why...maybe you will discover something you didnt know
wow, the clips look amazing! i actually love this movie, saw it twice in the theatre.
It really blew me away how good it was and in my opinion the director's cut made the movie way better too
