There are people who are good at grammar, and then there are brilliant orators. There are those who are good at animation, and then there are those like Terry Gilliam. It's not just the grammar, it's what is being said.
What a fantastic video!! For someone who has been in the Animation industry working for Disney, I highly admire people like him who have paved the way for new techniques in animation. I was a huge Monty Python fan as well!
I really like animation especially traditional animation techniques like Stop Motion. And Cut out to me is up there as one of the great traditional way to do things. I wish I could do Cut Out Animation like this. Absolutely brilliant timeless classic Terry Gilliam animation are.
Never seen this style of animation work anywhere as good as it did in Monty Python, mostly because they could go in directions most shows couldn't lol. Now I need to find out if he went full on into computer animation.
I recommend watching Terry's film 'The imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus', which has a computer animated segment in it that's still very Python-esque. :)
If you haven’t, check out the animations of Yuri Norstein and Francheska Yarbusova, particularly for their short Hedgehog in the Fog. Plus, there’s a 13 episode show called Adventures of Captain Vrungel (often translated as Wrongel). They all pushed cut out animation to the absolute limit.
I don't know what year this was made--70's, I'm thinking--but I almost wish I was a grown-up then because I would ask Terry Gilliam to go out with me. LOL! What a cutie! ;-)
I'd forgotten how much I miss him. He would have loved Robot Chicken and the way their lips move and stuff. I think. I'd say more but there's a giant Hedgehog broken down me roof.
@@ItIsJustJudythe answer seems legit, I won't go deeper. But it looks like that at that time he was living in England for a couple of years only. So it doesn't take long to change your way of speaking. To me he sounds more British than American.
I would say that Terry Gilliam is the most underrated member of Monty Python.
I would go further and say he's one of the most underrated people in film
Caleb Caleb Caleb... what are we gonna do about Caleb and his problem?
He's maaa....he's maaaa.....he's maaaad,sir.
Even his storyboards 7:54 , which are nothing to him but necessary work-tools, are charming little works of cartoon art on their own..
I think that idle and cleese are more than gilliam, but he still underrated python and one of my favorite python.
Terry’s animations are timeless. One of the best parts of Flying Circus.
I would even say the Secret Ingredient to the Silliness of Monty Python.
There are so many clever animators today but what I find missing sometimes is the story. Terry's genius is his sense of humour and use of odd.
Terry Gilliam is definitely a cut-out above the rest.
Get out.
:)
Terry Gilliam's artwork really is incredible. He's such a talented guy.
Excellent tip to blacken the edges of the cutouts because it enhances the animation.

Man, I already thought Terry Gilliam was awesome. This is so cool.
I'm trying to learn a little Stop Animation and this was the most comprehensive and useful lesson yet. Thank you Terry and Jame!
It's gotta be so much work!
@@LaCroixCreative Yeah, but fun. I did one where I used pictures of family and painted backgrounds. It was a laugh.
That's amazing that they were able to retouch images without a computer. With ink, a paintbrush and an airbrush, no less.
He is a fucking genius. Some of python's stuff is dated but terry's animations are timeless works of art.
I absolutely agree with you. Why don't we have more animation stuff done like this?
Which of python's sketches is dated?
@@Stratmanable None
I know this, you know this, but Captain Skidmark here doesn't seem to know this.
Yes I agree and I really love Terry Gilliam
The sheer amount of work in literally nearly inventing your own form of fast animation and unique illustration style, WOW
Terry Gilliam did not invent cutout-animation, but he certainly knew how to make use of it. His artistic style of course complemented silliness.
His cut out animation is so surreal
Just the Brilliance.
You can teach anything but that.
"Use Christmas cards!"
*off-handedly creates animation that makes me laugh as an example*

I can see how South Park's animation was inspired by this.
I was thinking the same.
I couldn't agree more. Terry Gilliam is an inspiration for traditional animation techniques like these.

Bloody hilarious lol.

1970. They were all included in the compilation movie AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT (1971)
1974... As stated at the end.
Gilliam is the frank zappa of video, unique talent and vision, ahead of his time.
I literally learned stop animation in one night thanks to this video
This was a retro treat very cool
There is no doubt about it.. Bruce Dickinson is certainly a mad genius! 😎
I laugh so much when I see Gilliamations.
Awww, what a lovely little , OM NOM NOM NOM NOM
Intolerable patience!
3:38 This was made in 1968. Just incredible.
With Bob Hargreaves who did Rhubarb and Custard ,couple of legends
"Roobarb". Not ... And Custard.

Not the BAYANGS no but fr though I love his hair
Fantastic works of art, these are!
This is iconic.
"That man's face is tremendous. Put a cartoon body on it."
Damn, Terry Gilliam was hot. I’m sure Stephen fry would agree with me too.
What do you mean "was"
@@MickyMr95 He is almost 80 now lol.
Historyguy 3000 yes, he was. And I’m sure Graham Chapman would have definitely agreed.
@@davidcross9811 In Gilliam's autobiography he says that gay men always liked him. No idea if Chapman ever hit on him

Very R. Crumb influenced end credits.
MARVELOUS!
Wonderful. Thank you.
In emergencies, British hospitals uses prams and convert them into prambulances.
Absolute genius
So this was Terry's Edward Gorey Influence.
Gorey was a huge one for me...plus Gilliam, makes sense
Anyone has ever seen You can't do that on television? It reminds me of this.
Duuuhhh I heeeaaard that
I love this!
Before there was photoshop animation, we had this
what a genius ❤
AWESOME!!
Thanks a lot for share this
Brilliant.
Good heavens! What is that piece of music over the credits?
Roger Desormiere & the Paris Conservatiore Orchestra..Divertissement for Chamber Orchestra:Finale
@@justindodsworth8893 Thank you very much!
It should be illegal to be so sexy
It's a crime that Nicholas Cage has not portrayed Terry Gilliam in a movie.
Stop
Yum yum yum I want him
9:12 there's going to be a fight inside the pram!
This should be more rightly called Stan Vanderbeek animation. Check out Science Friction, and others.
True masterpiece made in quick and dirty way.
But did he say "amazingly funny people" about THEM?
Awesome!
this is awesome.... thank you
Where did you get this? You said it was an edited version - is there an unedited one out there?
Terry seemed a bit nervous here.Either way,it's interesting.
F*ING BRILLIANT.
🤜🏻👍🤛🏻❤🔥❤
But they don’t talk about is the production of music they use for the animation. I wonder who’s in charge of that
genius...
This was Very Funny.
Can you say brilliant? I knew you could.
He has the face of Conan.
Where do the cartoonish cutouts come from?
he doesn't go into detail, surprisingly, but he does mention once in passing that he makes them, using an air-brush.
Its bob ross but...something completely different XD
That’s funny people 😂
does anyone know the name of the music at 11:16 ?
It's Flute Promenade by Eric Towren
"These are amazingly funny people"

Lol!
Damn! I definitely chose the wrong job!
BOB GODFRY WAS A GENIUS TOO
He invented memes?
Why is Zizek in a Gilliam animation? 1:00
How do you make the mouths like that?
