What a beautiful solid transit. Not many ,if any are left that are as good as this .

I loved the red. I went to pre-school in one is was mustard coloured yellow 1984-85 it was so rusty that it made it on to the local news they called it a death trap all the parents weren't happy once they heard that.

No way that transit costs £900 to repaint. Great van haven't seen a mk1 transit since the early 80s. Great looking van.

Firetruck van, low mileage, with rust free and straight body. Not much work before respray. I got a quote on mine with some rust issues (not through) and dents, about 3500 pounds..

Yes way😁 for just a spray over of a pre-prepped as stated van. Prepping is the most expensive using industrial truck paint £57 5 liters and thinners £12 of thinners . £250 is the going rate for a spray booth rental then there is labour and overheads. The going trade rate for spraying a panel (door / wing etc) with some minor repair prepping was £75 in 2021 using car paint. It's probably around £90 today.

I drove a Mk1 in 1977-8 before I got a new Sherpa. V4 clacked like an old diesel but it went okay and was better for load area and going round corners than the Sherpa.
Wheelers never took labour time into account which why I never went back after Ed left.

That is a whole hell of a lot of work to convert that MK1…..As a autobody repair man of 30yrs, they cut out of this show probably around 75hrs of reworking time to make that conversion happen. As someone else mentioned, £900 to refurnish the MK1 sounds awfully cheap. The only way that could happen is if Elvis did all the work to prepare it for paint and all the bodyshop had to do was provide the paint and labor to spray it. That would make sense

I'd probably have left it LHD. I've been driving American LHD cars in the UK since 1996. (Actually first one I drove was a '72 454 4 speed manual Corvette Stingray over in Ulster in 1993, but it wasn't mine).
No problem driving LHD in the UK, plus most accidents on single roads here are frontal offset impacts, so in a LHD drive car you're technically sat on the passenger side, so you're not going to eat the steering wheel and have the pedals shoved into your knees.
    Also, I forgot.
Who else is playing the Elvis, "When I was in F1" drinking game?

Isnt it terrible that the dash isnt spastic plastic like all the modern spastic plastic cars these days , yes even the ones they put lithium ion batteries in because they know plastic burns better , especially in EVs . That aside , those were the days when car bodies were generally very much metal and your dash did not crack because they were metal .
