I played a Euphonium in a Military Band when I was 16 ~ 18; I'm 73 now and haven't played since I was 18 but still love the tone of the Euphonium. So melodic.

@@markthirkell7056 I have tried them, you can get some really nice results with high end ones + mobility comfort but $ for $ large diaphragm gets better results reducing noise and catching full specter of frequencies :)
@@Matonizz - very helpful - need to keep the low harmonics and lose valve noise (not bad on JP374ST anyway) - otherwise we would sound like a baritone! 🇳🇿🎶
I love your sound it's very centered and consistent. 5 thumbs up my eupher friend. I'm 64 now, just survived cancer and ready to start back playing. Would love to utilize your study materials cause I'm addicted to practice, practice, practice.
@@Matonizz sorry about the loss of your granddad Al,sometimes cancer is very unkind for sure. I indeed count my blessings that I'm able to start my journey to get back playing again. Will request an online lesson shortly after I receive my new JP274. Take care euper head. Lol
It's certainly a nice instrument. I often sit with my cows plus Mr Bull at night and play your solos on my phone as they like slow measured simple low-toned classical music. I was trying to search for music like that and this is what I found. They seem to enjoy this piece in particular, they listen to it calmly and attentively. The other night when I put it on one of the 2 yos got real affectionate as she came over and started licking and bunting me with her head lol. Slow euphonium solos seem to be good music for cows. The pieces aren't that long so I keep repeating them over and over for them.
I have had several students get braces. Hang in there - play basics, lip slurs, etc. When you get the braces off, after a few weeks you will be playing better than you ever have!
One other thing. If you have access to a tuba you could Try playing it - with a full-size tuba mouthpiece. This will keep your lungs and musical brain active, without aggravating the trombone mouthpiece ring inside your mouth That gets bruised by braces. Good luck!
I play French horn and am learning euphonium, but when I had Mt braces removed the tone quality sky rocketed, it could have something to do with not having a flat surface between your lips and your teeth, but when they're removed you won't have to worry about tone
Man, I'm really torn. Not sure if I want to play Minecraft more, due to the music, or watch "How to Train Your Dragon" more, due to you being..."toothless." 😂👍
I started on baritone in elementary school and then moved to euphonium in Jr high and high schooo. Such a wonderful, warm, and beautiful tone. Enjoy it!
I use it on the cows, as well as the Saint Sans one. Also the long one that goes for 40 mins, forget what it’s called. At night I’ll go down sit with the herd and play the euphonium solos. Particularly good on moonlit nights
Wow. Just wow. You’re tone is SO GOOD!!!! Honestly it’s beautiful. I’ve been playing euphonium for more than two and a half years now, and I aspire to be this good someday. Keep up the great work!!!!
Thanks Chris. With quiet and slow stuff what often happens is we start to move our tongue very slowly. It should be vice versa. It usually happens when players can't control tongue movement separate of air movement. Don't be afraid to over articulate when playing soft. For as long as you supply steady soft air to will sounds like a clear attack rather than sharp and over articulated one. Hope that makes sense :)
Complicated, fast and intricate pieces are great. However, simple flowing pieces can be so much more difficult. I would love to be able ro achieve that beautiful sonorous Euphonium sound. Fantastic
i really look up to you so much, you are an inspiration for me and i really want to be like you someday, do you think you could give me tips on tone because yours is really pretty and flowy, anyway thank you for posting it always makes my day watching you
Hi friend, thanks for kind words. I'd really recommend you check my educational video playlist. I've made number of videos on tone development that would surely help you. Best, M
will this work to play on a chromatic harmonica like the Seydel Non-Slider in the key of Bb? this is really amazing to listen to.. is there any text written for this as well for a baritone to sing to? thank you and hope to hear more from this very gifted musician!
I need someone to take me out behind the shed and beat me for selling my incredible 1982 Hirsbrunner.Oh how I miss the celloistic resonance. My Wessex replacement just doesn't add up. Hey Mr. Matonizz which Adams come closest to the Hirsbrunner? I'm guessing the .80 version because my old Hirsbrunner was thick and heavy but oh what a sound.
Hi Roy, yep, .80 would get the closest sound wise. However, even closer version would be Wilson 2950 or Sterling Virtuoso purely from sound qualities point :)
hey i have a question i have been playing euphonium for 6 years now. but I have trouble when I play hard to keep nice tones, do you have any tips for that?
This was great. I love your content. I do have a question tho. Does your beard ever get in the way when u play your instrument? Or can u shave it a certain way to help? Or how does amazing beard with playing euphonium 😂?
Thanks Oliver. Beard not so much, mustache takes time to get used to but I do trim it a bit to not get too much in the way. If your used to sealing lips mostly through mouthpiece contact (pressure) then it can be a bit of a problem but otherwise just a matter of getting used to really :)
My son is starting learning Euphonium. He is ten, he played baritone for two years and this year his teacher told him to learn Euphonium, anyone know why?
Euphonium is a much more widely used instrument than baritone for both chamber and solo playing (assuming your son is actually playing a British style baritone and not a three valve euphonium which is often referred to as a baritone in US). My guess is that your son has physically grown larger to where euphonium is not too big or heavy to hold and play and that's why it was recommended as a step up :)

it is my favorite and personal choice, I play in my High School band and full orchestra as a first chair Euphoniumist and love every second of it.

Ah, I thought it sounded like Eric Satie...
Just to prove that it takes immense skill & control to play beautiful slow melody - self-recording will reveal the awkward reality!
Recording is in my opinion best way to develop music IQ and overall musicianship. Well said!
Have you ever tried clip-on mic's like sax players sometimes use? Better than mobile phone mic?

Thank you very much Sandra, glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the kind words!
How do you keep such a smooth tone? It might be due to my braces that it's harder for me, but I want to get this warm of a tone someday!

You could always try one of the rubber guards for musician with braces I've heard good things about them from other musicians
is it harder to play with braces ? im getting them later this month im kinda worried i wont be able to play good with them lol
Holy shit this is so good with the smoothness and consistent tone. And those long notes with the crescentos?!?!? Amazing 🤩
Thank you Maya!
It’s my first year of band and I chose this instrument and I’m so amazed by this

Nice!
baritone/euphonium is one of the best instruments and if I could afford it, i would so get it to play it again
Completely agree. Hope you can get a hold of one at some point to continue your playing friend!
A classic! Glad to get any Matonizz action we can get right now!
Thank you Christopher!

Interesting. He's playing the treble clef line. I didn't expect that. And I'm really enjoying listening to this.
After watching Hibike! euphonium anime, i immediately fell in love with eupho's but i cant play🥲
If there’s different types of the euphonium which type is yours? Sorry if it’s a stupid question I’m new to this

The bottom line is T.C. It's the case with all of our videos and all of our arrangements come in both clefs :)
@@Matonizz oops I didn’t realize lol, I thought it was a second line of bass clef I didn’t look. Glad you told me, thanks!
Hurts to look at notes above the staff.
Don't become a trombone/baritone 1 then... counting ledger lines is your full time job then.
phlegmatic
"I hate ballads" - Miles Davis
...because they are so immensly difficult, such as this marvelous piece
I am dissatisfied with the recording quality. The euph sounds distorted even when playing pianissimo.
Perhaps a bit too much gain, youtube does funny stuff when they auto master the audio of all the uploads
so it's a trumpet that requires less skill to play... got it.
