Thank you Tim from Sydney, Australia. This morning my kids and I watched your instructions and we're very inspired by your excellent work. Soon my son and I will build this baby together and it will be our first RC plane! Now to practice our flight controls on the simulator... :-) Many thanks again! Cheers from David and the kids from Oz
I have tried and cost more than $100. But the sense of accomplishment that DIY brings is far more than $100. I even regret not using more expensive materials to make airplanes, and the fun of flying is endless.
3mm depron will work but will have to be reinforced with something else, maybe bamboo skewers. Or you could double up the sheets which will be adequate :) good luck
You're good looking, you have a good voice, your confidence is high, your tone and delivery is professional. You could have a good career in broadcasting, acting etc. Good video. My only comment is that in my opinion, any trainer should have ailerons. If you learn to fly the right stick with just rudder and elevator, and then you transition TO ailerons, your new, steering, stick, on the ground will be on the left stick and this will take some time to learn the new configuration. As well, learning to use the rudder in the air,(when you have ailerons) will be ANOTHER learning curve.
A very interesting model for his skills as a slow flight, ideal for a beginner like me. Please, what is the distance from the leading edge of the wing from the front of the fuselage? Where is the CG? It would be possible to eliminate the rudder and ailerons install? Thanks.
Great video. Looks like a great plane for beginners and I will definitely give it a try. Just have to find me some foam which is hard to come by here for some reason.
Apparently there are some Dollar Tree outlets in Australia (Qld at least - do a google search) but I am in Tassie. I got some from a warehouse here in Hobart called Marsden Brothers, or you can get it at Shiploads in Tas also (smaller sheets though).
The video was produced very well. I would recommend several things to improve the performance and longevity of the plane. The hinges shouldn't be tape, or if they are, use something like Extreme Packing tape that will stick longer. Just be sure you cover the extreme packing tape to protect it from UV. The servos would be stronger and last longer if they were set inside the foam. Cut a rectangle the size of the servo and glue it inside that opening. I personally wouldn't offset the stablizers, but instead offset the motor mount. If someone wants to make their plane look pretty, use 120 grit and then work down to 220 grit to smooth out the edges. Then cover with a brown packing paper and a mixture of white glue and water. There are videos on this. Then it can be painted. I do like your plane design. Looks cool and stable for beginner flyers. Congrats on the design.
Hi Lee. Would you know by your estimates how much the plane weighs? Also what's the criteria for selecting motors and prop sizes with regards to overall weight? Hope to hear from you and thanks!
I would need more details about the plane to give recommendations on motor and prop sizes. For a plane this size I would guess a 3S motor and battery setup. You will want a larger prop, maybe even a slowfly prop on a lower KV motor. This is because the plane isn't meant for speed. The lower KV with a bigger prop will give you more low end power to help keep her in the air better. Think of it as the low gear of a car. A lot of power, but not much in speed. A high KV motor with a small prop is for speed. This would be like high gear in a car. It is meant for high speed, but not much power to get the plane moving. This plane won't be doing 80mph. It appears to have a lot of drag and not meant for speed. It's not sleek like a race car. If you can give me the all up weight before motor/battery as well as the sq/ft of the wing, I could give you a better answer as to what motor/prop I would recommend. Off the top of my head with what I see I might say you can do a 400 or 450 size SlowFly motor. What were you using in the video?
What is the weight of the material (building materials) and what kind of materials do you use . I have tried to build this plane , step by step but i think that my plane is too heavy and it crashed.
Great video! I mostly fly Heli's due to confined flying space. I have three planes, but they're scale and crashes are expensive. I'll build one of these and try it out!
Hey man I really liked your video and im going to build the plane I bought a Dx6i from a guy at my local rc flying club but it was the transmitter only. Could You tell me which receiver will be the best for the plane? I don't want to spend more than 20$ on a receiver. On hobbyking they have Orange brand receivers. could you tell me which one will work for the plane AND the Dx6i? Thanks alot and please reply soon
Hey Tim, constructing one now - making it with a Clark Z airfoil with a 10" chord. BTW you have to update the links for equipment on your Blog page - all 404 errors :(
I live in Ecuador and some of the things you listed aren't available, what material can I use that's not foam? I have family in the USA so I can get all the electronics, but bringing foam back to Ecuador seems ridiculous. Appreciate the video, thank you.
hey TIM, i saw ur video and to be true i subscribed u. i was planning to make this as i got a school project. Everything was great but i just faced one problem, can any controller work with the setup ? 2. if we change the setup ie the motor and servos do i need to get a diff. controller??? 3. to which part of the plane is the controller connected to ????? please reply fast, i got a week to complete the project.
Put this thing together in a few hours with some Home Depot 1/2 inch styrofoam, and leftover servos, motor, esc and folding prop from a Radian I used to fly. It flew great, even though the construction was sloppy.
I wish I could get you this blue core sheet foam that we commonly use for insulation. It is right at 5 mm thick.. Should be the link to see. Talk to you later..Chuck
Great build but I'm confused about whether the wings should have an airfoil shape. Also, and most remarkable is that your 15 - 20 degree launch is nearer 70 degree. Having said that it must have some considerable lift to not stall at that angle.
Where is the link to their parts you said on your blogger right... i dont know wch transmitter to buy...i hav a 30amp esc and a brushless motor and what else i need how can i control the motors amd do i need to program esc and how plz tell...i hav subscribed to your channel..
I watched this video when it came out, I was like 14 😭 and I finally found it again because I have the resources now. You’re the goat!!!
Same my dude, 😂😂😂
so cool, you inspired me to start making my own planes and you taught me so much just by making one video.YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!
+Mathew Bunting Thanks!
This is 8 Year old Video But I still like to watch . Because My first Model I was Build it like same .thanks .....
10 yrs and I still watch this video🎉
This video is what got me into R/C airplanes years ago. Thank you so much for inspiring me!
This is really good for science projects like the one i am doing right now
+Alexia Taylor I used it for a science fair back in the day!
Cool!

+deldridg Thanks! Good luck to you and your son. I hope the build goes well and I'm glad to have helped out.
Outstanding explanation. .. very easy and economy too. You have given a great tutorial about rc plane.
Nicely built!@11:48 though there's Pink Panther :)
I've been watching your channel for a long time your getting older lol. Keep up the good work!
WOAH DUDE YOU ARE SOOOO COOL UNLIKE OTHER PEOPLE YOU ACTUALY MADE THE TUTOURIAL EASY YOU JUST EARNED A SUB BRO
This was very good, i have seen many of this kind of videos but this is one of the best build videos.
Good job
Nice landing.
I have tried and cost more than $100. But the sense of accomplishment that DIY brings is far more than $100. I even regret not using more expensive materials to make airplanes, and the fun of flying is endless.
really!! you are the best rc maker I saw in my life
:)
Absolutely! It won't fly as slow as in the video, but you can give it a bigger wing to deal with that.
Very good I liked it.
Good video it's good for beginners and I made one as you instructed thank you for the video please send more
Seriously impressed by the build and the video. Having bought several ARTF planes to teach school kids how to fly This would have been a lot better.
Dude, it's awesome, I've got all the info to build one by just watching this video.
Thanks for the excellent video...it sure gave me a good idea on how to build a rc plane. The video is neat, to the point and clear. Appreciate it.
it's a nice step by step approach. thank you
The best video I have seen for my needs as a beginner. Thank you. Keep em coming ;)
Thanks for the detailed answer! This is spot on. The foam shouldn't matter too much, you could even use dollar store foamboard for this build.
Thats the coolest thing iv ever seen
Awesome bro very smart guy
Good job .
I really like the way you described all the things here including your very smart and useful suggestions... Nice work!
3mm depron will work but will have to be reinforced with something else, maybe bamboo skewers. Or you could double up the sheets which will be adequate :)
good luck
Awesome, thanks for explain and presentations. I appreciate it 👍
handles high alfa really well

You are great man! nobody explains like u do!
nice video! 10:30 best rc plane landing I ever saw
Nice work Kevin ! Keep it up buddy...
+Salman Haleem Thanks!
Not bad. I recommend using packing tape though for the control surface hinges. It sticks much better than masking tape.
You are great bro
very nice video for beginners, well done m8;)
Excellent, great presentation as well
Very nice video and good explanation

you are idle of me,, i watch your all video u are amazing,,what is the size of that foam you cut down and from where to buy it?
I am almost finished building your plane! Time to see if it flies!
could you do a vid explaining how to assemble the electronics ?? cheers (just getting into RC)
wonderful. I loved it. Especially I loved your skillful controlling that plane... Thank you
Nice plane, and nice build video. The only thing is you should add ailerons to make it a full 4 channel trainer.
Watching this video since a long time
Loved it 😍❤
Great video. Looks like a great plane for beginners and I will definitely give it a try. Just have to find me some foam which is hard to come by here for some reason.
Are you from Australia Charles? I can't find any either! If you found some let me know where you got it from.
Apparently there are some Dollar Tree outlets in Australia (Qld at least - do a google search) but I am in Tassie. I got some from a warehouse here in Hobart called Marsden Brothers, or you can get it at Shiploads in Tas also (smaller sheets though).

I agree, this was a very detailed and fun video. Question, how about the same design with a flat wing and Ailerons. Thanks for your videos
im trying this out today thanks man looks cool will see if mine works

Nice beginner plane or just to have some fun. It isn't too far from being a 3D able plane as well.
Thanks!
excellent build video instructions! great job well done
Hi Its really wonderful I will surely try this one... Great Job
Thanks, I will experiment with different materials.
Thanks for the build, looks like it flies really nice..
Dude you are Awesome, Well explained and demonstrated, Thank you
what can be seen cannot be unseen
wow!! i hope one day i can build that too great job!
Nice flying!
Which foam sheet did u use?plz specify
Nice landings....
superb !! what can i do to increase the payload ??
very nice plane. will you please tell me the specifications of the electronics used in this airplane. like battery and servo specifications
What is the weight of the material (building materials) and what kind of materials do you use .
I have tried to build this plane , step by step but i think that my plane is too heavy and it crashed.
Great job, very inspiring, excellent airplane.

SOO GOOD BUT WHERE I CAN GET THAT RADIO TRANSMITTER AND ALSO THE SPEED CONTROLLER.
ok, double layer or reinforced with skewers.(2 layer fuselage and reinforced wings) THANKS :) (I hope it will fly :D)
Yes, good idea.. any pdf plans in the making?
Nice job, maybe a bigger motor? What size is that motor again?
Well done. Bravo!
Wow very nice your macking
Nice instructional vid, thanks.

Excellent video very nice. But can you please send me the list of things to be brought please and even clear instructions pleaseeeee
Hey. I have a question about this plane, can I use brushless motor 12 A and Speed Controller 30 A for this plane?
I really like the video but it would be nice to have a list of what exactly you bought
Good job dude
hey TIM, i saw ur video and to be true i subscribed u.
i was planning to make this as i got a school project. Everything was great but i just faced one problem, can any controller work with the setup ? 2. if we change the setup ie the motor and servos do i need to get a diff. controller???

please reply fast, i got a week to complete the project.
Do you have video showing us how to covert a Guillows balsa wood plane to radio control please. ?????
Hey I love the idea but could I make the fuselage bigger and it not effect the flight? Thanks
When we finish it plz can you do video of how to charge it or plz tell me in comments thank you and good job
great job man doing this vid. I notice you have good way of describing details which helped me understand much faster. thanks
Put this thing together in a few hours with some Home Depot 1/2 inch styrofoam, and leftover servos, motor, esc and folding prop from a Radian I used to fly. It flew great, even though the construction was sloppy.
Really well described. Thanks.
I learned so much from this video! Thanks!

the diagonal you mentioned: what are the dimensions of the triangle you cut out?
Great build but I'm confused about whether the wings should have an airfoil shape. Also, and most remarkable is that your 15 - 20 degree launch is nearer 70 degree. Having said that it must have some considerable lift to not stall at that angle.
du-bro has all the hardware you could every need to build planes with.
I like it. tomorrow I start the construction ... and I tell you ...
I like your plane but can I use thermocole
how to select a motor for rc plane and propeller..is it same for quad or different?? pls tell me,,,, which motor is good to buy
Where is the link to their parts you said on your blogger right... i dont know wch transmitter to buy...i hav a 30amp esc and a brushless motor and what else i need how can i control the motors amd do i need to program esc and how plz tell...i hav subscribed to your channel..
