Orphaned at 8 yrs old Shot when I was 11 yrs old. This year I will be 62 I've been around the world 3 times. 50 years of borrowed time. Loved every minute of it.
My father always used to say, and I've repeated to my children, "Life's unfair, but sometimes it's unfair to your advantage, and you never complain then".
I don't agree with people who say "life is unfair" becasue by accepting it they are enabling it, and so are responsible. Always fight for a better life for you and everyone.

I love your comment! - is so true - one instance I needed to get a medical thearpy apparatus for my neck - was about $350.00. Was told it would be covered by medicare. But the only source would not give me info I needed. Really went thru 3 DAYS AND and many hours of research and red tape - and it was finally resolved and medicare paid for it. SO IT WAS WORTH IT.
house call I totally agree and it depends on the individual. Some hate being alone and need others around to enjoy themselves, while others like us enjoy time alone because it's when we can truly be ourselves and do what we want to do. It's rare to have that kind of freedom in a group setting even when among friends and family.

I was laughing about something I said with colleagues during handover. The patient I went in to see next was smiling from ear to ear. He had cancer and commented and was overjoyed to hear laughter in a hospital. He made me promise to go to a seaside cafe he loved. I will. He didn't stop smiling all night. Ruislip- Enjoying work is a state of mind. Enjoying the fruit of work is a satisfying reward in itself. Not in buying things but in empowerment; the ability to do good with money. Yes, MONEY. I think worse is to lay on your death bed and say “I wish I had enjoyed my work”. That, is a wasted life. If you enjoy your work, it is hard not to overdo it. Always the trade off. How wonderful it must be to to lay there and recall the tangible impacts that too much work enabled...always considering the cost. If any. If a person does not work “too much”, maybe they are lazy. Or not enough of a stoic to control their mind. But if they have only worked “too much” in order to collect things, that too is sad. I hear your comment all the time. We should settle this. Hospitals should give a little “check the box” card to the to dying, with this question among others.

It conveys the same meaning, but I would disagree with it, as there are many people who love their work, whether in the office or not. Work gives them purpose. Lucky are those who find work that they're both good at and love doing.

The everything is temporary one is bang on. People don’t usually learn this until a big life changing event happens. Like a parent dying. It’s a shock to the system. It can trigger what is lovingly referred to as a midlife crisis

In the past few years, I made some very difficult life decisions based on this very point. It resulted in divorce, loss of job stability, loss of friendships, and changed gender identity. We hardly live in the present. the best days of my life was when I was in secondary school. The moment I enterered Uni, it was all about the future, then future of children, planning to buy a house, planning for retirement....The only time people stop planning is after retirement, then they start looking back and wishing.

I’m pushing to my 50” and I notice I’m not willing to do new tasks at work I remember when I was on my 20’ 30’ and even 40’ I was all kind but now is a bit of losing confidence, I’m gonna watch all your videos.
The life is unfair one is definitely something we should learn earlier. People tell you it, but you don't really understand it until you have some experiences. You can work very hard, do all the right things, and still you don't get anything that you want, while someone else who goes bumbling through life does. It's very frustrating, but hearing that life is unfair makes it a little better.
The world Is full of people who are eaten up with jealousy because some people are more attractive, richer, smarter or more talented than they are. They are just eating themselves up inside over something that they and others have no control over.

When I was in my early 20s, I met a retired stockbroker. He told me to buy and hold solid stocks and to save a bit from wash paycheck . He said dividend reinvestment can easily make the common man a millionaire over time. He was certainly right! I followed his advice and have done very well over the decades. The stock market goes up and down, but over the long term has always done very well. I may never own my own factory big box store, or oil well. But by buying stocks in these hard assets I can diversify and own a little bit of each.
I'm in the medical field and often my patients are in their 80's & 90's and I love advice from them, they tell the best stories and give us the most experinced lessons (literally).

I agree with everything except the part where they mentioned that life is unfair. I'm 30 now, but I have learnt that life is for you, not against you. Even if things seem unfair now, later you will realise why you didn't get the girl, why you didn't get that house or why you were bullied. You'll realise that it shaped you into the person you are today and that through your negative experiences you have become stronger and more understanding and more compassionate. Life shows you what you need, it shows you where you can work on yourself and it shows you who should be in your life and who shouldn't.
I completely agree with you, the meaning here is that often the "starting point" is unfair, some people has it easier than others, but as you say the difficulties we experience in life shape us into the person we become and often having a tough youth will turn out to be a big advantage later on in life. The problem with this is that, since "everything is temporary" it really does not matter what you do or dont do with your life. You wont remember it. Nobody else will either. And ultimately the universe will end and nothing will ever happen again, and nobody/nothing will remember that anything ever happened ever.
@@JS-fi7fl that's why we have to create meaning ourselves for ourselves and this can help create meaning for others by our actions. We may as well enjoy things as we go along, after all the odds of anyone being born are not high. Finding things we care about is what gives our lives meaning, and that bring us happiness. I think one thing I'd add is find what makes you happy and do it. It might even bring happiness to others.
You can usually find joy in simple things without them ever having to "matter". OK you might not remember what you did, and nobody else will. And OK, ultimately the universe will end and nothing will ever happen again, and nobody/nothing will remember anything that ever happened. But that still doesn't stop you looking for joy in simple things. There doesn't have to be meaning to life and you don't have to search for meaning. Just let go and allow yourself to find joy wherever it can be found. And each time you find some joy, share it with others if you can, because that usually amplifies it.
maybe its a good summer holiday place or volunteer experience for the young, I was invited to do 'chores' / help out with a charity that I was involved with...I find it annoying at first as you can imagine (like telling a kid to get off games), then came some life stories (kind of interesting) then looking back or their stories/moments flashback when you are going through hard times and it makes sense (you get a preview of the future or where we will all likely be one day or similar biological conditions)...interestingly enough now thinking back you could tell the happy ones or one's with happier lives or attitudes (towards life) even without being with them through all their previous years...I think the life experiences (drama/trauma/lessons/'hacks') of the grey generation are actually helpful and priceless when you look back like you don't appreciate things you study till one day you might use it 10 or 20 years down the track (kind of like when you about to leave this world everything flashes back before you that kind of thing)....reminds me of the saying sacrifice the good now in front of your eyes for the chance to achieve/get and be able to appreciate the great that were meant for you. Normally you only get one or the other or your choice of timing and sacrifice plays a part...have a look at the video on Tube here "How Warren Buffett made his first 1,000,000 by The Swedish Investor" to see what I mean about sacrifice and you can see why his path is more solid and followable more or less by others compare to other 'Giants' of this world...most would have gave up long ago hence not deserving of Excalibur goodies so to speak.
i used to hide behind baggy clothes, never did make up even when i looks as tired as i often felt, i didnt want to talk to people i let the judgments of a few mean people when i was in my teens psychologically scar me for almost 20 years. then i started telling myself every morning, do not let old hurts drag you down, stop hideing and be yourself it took months but finally i started careing more for my mental and physical health. before all the lockdowns i threw out most of my old clothes, bought all new stuff that i liked and started to engage more with people around me. i ware make up cause when im having a bad day it makes me feel good, i dress up when going out, i learned to cook properly in 2019 so i can better look after myself, i started to exercise and regularly met with friends outside for a cup of coffee. i take time every day to apprriaciate just being alive, yeah things are tough right now and i miss everyone and going out and just enjoying all the little everyday things, but im going to enjoy them all the more once all this is over.
The expression means learning about what really matters in life. When young, we are free of responsibilities and haven’t been burned by bad experiences, but as old people, our imminent demise forced us to reassess and see what really counts.
I will add: to be old/young is a social construction. Don’t let society defines you in terms of numbers of years. You own your life and only you can define who you’re. I always regret not to be thankful enough to my parents and teachers. Pets give you unconditional love and you should be a good student and give back unconditional love to others.

I love your comment! - is so true - one instance I needed to get a medical thearpy apparatus for my neck - was about $350.00. Was told it would be covered by medicare. But the only source would not give me info I needed. Really went thru 3 DAYS AND and many hours of research and red tape - and it was finally resolved and medicare paid for it. SO IT WAS WORTH IT.

Some hate being alone and need others around to enjoy themselves, while others like us enjoy time alone because it's when we can truly be ourselves and do what we want to do. Also 'success' and 'failure' are not natural but socially created ideas. Being a great hedge funder wouldn't help you in the Brazilian jungle. You are ignoring structural inequalities as well. In the UK and many countries you can pay for your kids to access superior education, which means they mix with other privileged people . That's not 'luck'.

The moment I enterered Uni, it was all about the future, then future of children, planning to buy a house, planning for retirement....The only time people stop planning is after retirement, then they start looking back and wishing.

When I was in my early 20s, I met a retired stockbroker. He told me to buy and hold solid stocks and to save a bit from wash paycheck . He said dividend reinvestment can easily make the common man a millionaire over time. He was certainly right!
I followed his advice and have done very well over the decades. The stock market goes up and down, but over the long term has always done very well. I may never own my own factory big box store, or oil well. But by buying stocks in these hard assets I can diversify and own a little bit of each.

I agree with everything except the part where they mentioned that life is unfair. I'm 30 now, but I have learnt that life is for you, not against you. Even if things seem unfair now, later you will realise why you didn't get the girl, why you didn't get that house or why you were bullied. You'll realise that it shaped you into the person you are today and that through your negative experiences you have become stronger and more understanding and more compassionate.
Life shows you what you need, it shows you where you can work on yourself and it shows you who should be in your life and who shouldn't.
I completely agree with you, the meaning here is that often the "starting point" is unfair, some people has it easier than others, but as you say the difficulties we experience in life shape us into the person we become and often having a tough youth will turn out to be a big advantage later on in life. The problem with this is that, since "everything is temporary" it really does not matter what you do or dont do with your life. You wont remember it. Nobody else will either. And ultimately the universe will end and nothing will ever happen again, and nobody/nothing will remember that anything ever happened ever.

We may as well enjoy things as we go along, after all the odds of anyone being born are not high. Finding things we care about is what gives our lives meaning, and that bring us happiness. I think one thing I'd add is find what makes you happy and do it. It might even bring happiness to others.
You can usually find joy in simple things without them ever having to "matter". OK you might not remember what you did, and nobody else will. And OK, ultimately the universe will end and nothing will ever happen again, and nobody/nothing will remember anything that ever happened. But that still doesn't stop you looking for joy in simple things. There doesn't have to be meaning to life and you don't have to search for meaning. Just let go and allow yourself to find joy wherever it can be found. And each time you find some joy, share it with others if you can, because that usually amplifies it.

maybe its a good summer holiday place or volunteer experience for the young, I was invited to do 'chores' / help out with a charity that I was involved with...I find it annoying at first as you can imagine (like telling a kid to get off games), then came some life stories (kind of interesting) then looking back or their stories/moments flashback when you are going through hard times and it makes sense (you get a preview of the future or where we will all likely be one day or similar biological conditions)...interestingly enough now thinking back you could tell the happy ones or one's with happier lives or attitudes (towards life) even without being with them through all their previous years...I think the life experiences (drama/trauma/lessons/'hacks') of the grey generation are actually helpful and priceless when you look back like you don't appreciate things you study till one day you might use it 10 or 20 years down the track (kind of like when you about to leave this world everything flashes back before you that kind of thing)....reminds me of the saying sacrifice the good now in front of your eyes for the chance to achieve/get and be able to appreciate the great that were meant for you. Normally you only get one or the other or your choice of timing and sacrifice plays a part...have a look at the video on Tube here "How Warren Buffett made his first 1,000,000 by The Swedish Investor" to see what I mean about sacrifice and you can see why his path is more solid and followable more or less by others compare to other 'Giants' of this world...most would have gave up long ago hence not deserving of Excalibur goodies so to speak.

i used to hide behind baggy clothes, never did make up even when i looks as tired as i often felt, i didnt want to talk to people i let the judgments of a few mean people when i was in my teens psychologically scar me for almost 20 years. then i started telling myself every morning, do not let old hurts drag you down, stop hideing and be yourself it took months but finally i started careing more for my mental and physical health.
before all the lockdowns i threw out most of my old clothes, bought all new stuff that i liked and started to engage more with people around me. i ware make up cause when im having a bad day it makes me feel good, i dress up when going out, i learned to cook properly in 2019 so i can better look after myself, i started to exercise and regularly met with friends outside for a cup of coffee.
i take time every day to apprriaciate just being alive, yeah things are tough right now and i miss everyone and going out and just enjoying all the little everyday things, but im going to enjoy them all the more once all this is over.
Like the singer from Queen says " Nothing really matters, anyone can see. Nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me. "
The first one reminds me of the saying 'The old learn through experience what the young know through instinct.'

The expression means learning about what really matters in life. When young, we are free of responsibilities and haven’t been burned by bad experiences, but as old people, our imminent demise forced us to reassess and see what really counts.

I will add: to be old/young is a social construction. Don’t let society defines you in terms of numbers of years. You own your life and only you can define who you’re.
I always regret not to be thankful enough to my parents and teachers.
