Richard worked in a great record shop in my local area and regularly sold me lots of good records!!!it’s great to have saw him go to huge heights with his beautiful music!!!
Richard bewilders me, it's akin to watching a trapeze artist or some incomprehensible juggling act. I see it happening, I see what he's doing, but I have no idea how one achieves it. Insanely talented.
It's like first listening to Captain Beefheart, mate (in a different era). Same dissonances, same initial reactions. Richard is a refreshing reminder that there is nothing new under the sun. Thank the Lord.
The vocal melodies are so insanely difficult, and impossible to imagine writing on top of the guitar melodies. Truly one of a kind, and immensely talented.
@@sanfordcurtis8242 He does that in this performance too. I remember seeing another video where he changes it to "Death Stranding". It's a pretty clever bit that gives the song some fun staying power.
It occurred to me today after paying a bit more attention to the lyrics of 'Tip of an Arrow' that Richard has been playing Horizon Zero Dawn. Love it - bring on a whole album revealing the internal monologue of triple AAA game characters.
It’s amazing he wrote an album called 2020 the year before the pandemic featuring the lyric ‘man on man on AN EMPTY STADIUM yells man on!’ He must have a crystal ball.
Richard is very special. I am completely captivated and drawn in by everything he does. There are very few artists where I read all that I can about their process, song explanations, etc, but I definitely do this with Richard. One thing I just realized though is that HE FORGOT HIS GLASSES. YOU PEOPLE AT THE BARBICAN WERE SUPPOSED TO REMIND HIM.
this performance of Ghost of a Tree is out of this fucking world lol, i dont know how he's able to pack so much emotion and viscera into an acapella tune. i think Richard is legitamately one of the most impressive performers in folk music today, every single live video i see of him he puts his all into it and he's able to just create an insanely captivating piece of art to experience, often with only his voice and a guitar. truly stunning!
Brilliant musician/singer/performer/songwriter/human being. I was hoping to see him, in norwich arts centre, in may, last year, where he came to before, and gave a breathtaking recital. Hope he stays well and comes back, soon. He really is the most authentic performer alive. I can only think of one other artist I like anything like as much, and that is Laura Marling. Love you, Richard. You are a complete original. Living legend. 😘
4:47 - The Felon's Song 11:38 - Civil Servant 18:54 - We Picked Apples in a Graveyard Freshly Mowed 26:08 - Two Halves 32:31 - The Queen's Head 40:06 - Joe the Quilt-Maker 52:00 - Judas Iscariot 57:35 - Fresher's Ball 1:03:41 - Weaver 1:14:52 - The Ghost of a Tree
"wooden bag" from the same album had that effect on me, the description of missing someone who's passed through one of their personal items is exceptionally heartbreaking. there are few other artists, living or dead, who can write such poignant lyrics as far as i see it
I had tickets to the original show. Although everything was so dicey when this gig happened in the UK. So probably wouldn't of felt comfortable there. Feel bad for Richard should have been a massive year for him. He will get another chance though!
That point, at 10.20, when the audience were thinking "whatthefuckwasthatthatwasfuckingbrilliant" and forgot to clap, shall forever be known as "The Dawson Pause".
unfortunately I think because I recorded it using my GPU as a sound card the audio quality was affected on the recording :( I am considering rerecording if more people want its just that it costs money to view.
Most of his songs are tuned to an open C major chord - CGCEGC. In live performances it won't be those exact notes because he's tuning his guitar to itself by ear on stage, but it'll be within about a semitone of that. Some songs the E is tuned down a semitone to D# to make an open minor chord - I think The Queen's Head and Weaver in this performance

He's mind blowing. In a good way.
The vocal melodies are so insanely difficult, and impossible to imagine writing on top of the guitar melodies. Truly one of a kind, and immensely talented.
I love how he changes the lyrics of Civil Servant to reflect whatever video game he's playing at the moment. It's a very funny touch.
yeah i really like this version of civil servant
I remember when I saw Richard in Manchester three years ago. He changed “Call of Duty” to “The Last of Us Pt 2” in Civil Servant.
@@sanfordcurtis8242 He does that in this performance too. I remember seeing another video where he changes it to "Death Stranding". It's a pretty clever bit that gives the song some fun staying power.

He's the troubadour of the twenties, covid and all.

This is probably the greatest and most underrated live performance of music I've ever seen.

Richard is so talented it's scary. His voice doesn't need any sort of alteration or studio doctoring it's just beautiful the way it is.
this version of we picked apples nearly brought me to tears :') so beautiful
Blessed to know this guy's music. Exploding with talent.
He was superb at End of The Road last night. He had an excellent drummer with him, too. A Great performance.
Best time I'v ever seen him
Thank you for letting me feel something again ❤

Keep returning to this just to watch Queens Head. This video is where I 1st heard it and its simply a masterpiece.
2 halves is my favourite song of all time
4:47 - The Felon's Song
11:38 - Civil Servant
18:54 - We Picked Apples in a Graveyard Freshly Mowed
26:08 - Two Halves
32:31 - The Queen's Head
40:06 - Joe the Quilt-Maker
52:00 - Judas Iscariot
57:35 - Fresher's Ball
1:03:41 - Weaver
1:14:52 - The Ghost of a Tree
The Queen’s Head is my fav. Beautiful.
i cried so hard listening to 'we picked apples' for the first time.

U.S. fan here. I'm often moved by Richard's songs, with _"Joe, the Quilt-Maker"_ being one of his most powerful.
Proper genius and a really lovely lad - love him t' bits x
Richard is criminally underrated. Thanks for the upload!
So good!

Insanely talented indeed …great voice ..love him to bits …new album with circle is an absolute triumph
The latest in a line of incredible albums
A great artist. Thanks, Richard, for your wonderful and increasingly great discography.
Thanks! Was supposed to see him in May, but you know.
Np I was supposed to see him in April but oh well :( . Hopefully get's delayed instead of cancelled.
Certainly - I do love him
such genuine talent.
woah, how does he know I'm watching this on a Sunday?
That point, at 10.20, when the audience were thinking "whatthefuckwasthatthatwasfuckingbrilliant" and forgot to clap, shall forever be known as "The Dawson Pause".
the way he ends Felon's Song without the final verse kills me. it has the effect of dropping the floor out from under you
"is it too soon for a twelve minute a capella song about a quilt maker?"
fucking love Judas Iscariot. the fact that he plays it the same way every time. keeping all that in your head is so amazing
Astonishing
Saw at End of the Road festival yesterday. Fantastic!
seeing him tomorrow in Bristol 😀
I love him.
1:09:37 Nobody mentioning this immaculate cover?
Richard is the real deal
brilliant artist
Best video on RUclips !
I know how he feels about rustiness: will have been an 18-month break when I finally get to gig again.
good luck :)
richaaard
Bravo
"When the sun is rising ..."
a proper fuking artist, crrieed thru the lot. thxks
applause
He’s England’s Robert Frost
Thanks for the video! What a great musician and lyricist. Wondering why there are clicks and pops on it - were they on the original broadcast?
unfortunately I think because I recorded it using my GPU as a sound card the audio quality was affected on the recording :( I am considering rerecording if more people want its just that it costs money to view.
@@nuttydiger If you could that would be wonderful!
How’s his guitar tuned, it ain’t standard or is it? Or dropped d ?
does anyone know what tuning he’s using ???

Wtf, how did he know it was a sunday today?
And again today! Wtf?!
Prog elbow
Anyone know what model Burns he is playing?
@scott matthews nice one! Thank you very much 😊
@scott matthews haha! Nice! I did not know that! Been looking at a few Nu-Sonics since your original comment 👍🏻
Bladee looks so weird here
New album (the hermit) is a bit of a slog compared to his earlier more sparkling material.
Maybe, but it’s still great imo.
If only he had a voice...
Kinda pretentious.
That says more about you than it does this performance.
Literally the opposite.
A demented Morocco/geordie mash up
does anyone know what tunings he uses?
looks like open C for a lot of it
