Ben Holladay is a solid pour, I enjoy both the BiB and Soft Red Wheat. I think it deserves the love, but I would not go crazy hunting. But if I see one and feel like it, I would grab one.
I really enjoy them, the mouth and viscousity for them is what surprised me for these crafters out of Missouri. So for that alone compared to others in their categories, they are winners in my book.
Had a bar pour of the “one barrel” soft red wheater @ 120 proof tonight and my goodness! It’s the vanilla bean, and cinnamon sugar breadsticks from your favorite pizza place. Super creamy, insanely long finish with really good notes lingering. 10/10 would buy a whole bottle without a second thought even for around… $100? The only issue I have is the confusing labels. Some soft red wheaters will not distinctly say like that they are on the bottle, but that’s hardly a gripe for the juice that’s inside of them! Super good, highly recommend trying the barrel proof wheater before deciding an opinion on this brand.
Great review and yet another bottle that isn’t available to me in my area. Saw that barrel picks are very popular with other channels. For a non Kentucky distiller they seem to be killing it.
Good review! I found a BiB lately, but I haven't opened it yet. I've heard really good things about the Soft Red Wheat, so I'm looking for that one. Looks like I'll be keeping an eye out for the Single Barrel, too.
I too grew up in Missouri. I live in Texas now. Last week, I was in the Branson/Springfield area on vacation and I picked up a bottle of the regular Holladay and the Soft Red Wheat. Looking forward to trying them.
I agree, good whiskey. I don’t think the price point is out of line, unlike several distilleries that are dishonest to completely dishonest…. They are doing everything right.
Nice to hear your both from Missouri too. Spent half of my life there. Now that it has all this awesome Bourbon coming out I want to go back. Barrel King is another one I really want to try
Always love your reviews - they’re so much fun to watch. Can’t find Holladay in Nor Cal but I have a friend from KCMo who will bring one back for me the next time he visits home.
Just found some of the soft red wheat in NH. First time trying it. I don't care for it, and i like wheaters. At $60, it's not worth it imo. Get a bottle of makers' mark or larceny or Weller if you can find it which are far better ,again imo.
I picked one up last February because it looked really interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed the bottle. Haven’t had another one since & it seems like the price has already went up. 🙃
Just bought the wheated today, most expensive bourbon I’ve bought so far. I’m brand new to this and I think maybe I should’ve waited until I know more about tasting before spending so much cuz it taste like a less sharp early times BIB to me 😆 Now I’m regretting spending more than $50 on a bottle am I thinking about it wrong? 🤷🏼♂️
By me the soft red wheat is selling more. The tasters in the FB group I’m in got cinnamon notes on the Bourbon and it made them think of Jim Beam. They said why am I paying $58 plus tax when I can get Beam. I scored the Red Wheat & I hope to get the same tasting notes.
The BIB and wheated bottles have just started showing up in north Georgia, so I guess they're expanding into my state. Haven't had a chance to try either of them yet, though.
I’m so sorry that it happens. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I’m trying to find a work around and a way I can have names scroll on the screen. Thanks so much! Very grateful for your support!
Do Missourians call it Missouri or Missoura? Or is Missoura just something they say in movies? Or does it depend on what part of Missouri you are from?
I do feel like this channel mostly just follows Bourbon Junkies and Brewzle and copies whatever whatever is the hot topic or bottles in their videos. You guys need to keep cramming on finding your own style and voice.
Thanks for your feedback. However, I choose to disagree with you. Have you watched our variety of videos? They’re nothing like the Junkies or Brewzle and our channel was started before Brewzle. Thanks for watching, though. If you would rather watch them, that’s fine! We love them and they’re friends of ours. This is supposed to be a supportive community where we’re all allowed to share our journey from our own perspective. Have a wonderful day.
Also, if you watch every other channel, we all review similar bottles in our review videos. Because we all have different palates and people who watch our channels generally appreciate our different palates and it helps them determine if they should buy a bottle or not, especially if they share a similar palate to whoever they’re watching.
@@TheAverageDrinker Hey, you do you. I watch a lot of whiskeytube and you are definitely not those other two channels. I appreciate what you bring to the community and I like the tasting notes you give, you do an awesome job! Let them haters hate, they will always be there…. Take care and enjoy those pours 🥃 and keep these videos coming!
Had the BiB and was not impressed. It was OK. Nothing bad, and nothing that turned me off, but it was no where near Rare Breed, OF 1920, that I get all the time at the same price! I realize the proof difference, BUT WT 101 is the same proof as the Holladay, and with MORE age, and also just good all around Bourbon. Not really an outstanding offering, just pretty good, and I believe equal to the Ben Holladay at half the price. Holladay is out for me.

That's awesome!! I hope you enjoy it when you do open it! Hope you had a great vacation, also. Cheers!
Soft red wheat is great. We get lots of store picks in Iowa at around 120-123 proof. So good
you need to get the 2 rickhouse proof ones those are even better!!
I have the Ben Holladay BIB and the Soft Red Wheat Bourbon BIB. Both good, but I prefer the Soft Red Wheat. 🥃
I think Ben Holladay is rightly rated, however I really hope they can continue to put out amazing bottles.
I agree, good whiskey.
I don’t think the price point is out of line, unlike several distilleries that are dishonest to completely dishonest…. They are doing everything right.
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching, John! Cheers!
great nosing and tasting notes, you are much better at this than me and thats why you have a channel! Cheers!
Thanks so much for the sample and for the bbq sauce! I really enjoy both! 😊🥃

Oh awesome! Where are you from? There definitely is great stuff coming out of Missouri! We have tried some Barrel King and really enjoy it. Cheers!
@TheAverageDrinker just west of St. Louis, St. Charles (suburbia) Now live in Florida. St. Augustine. Got a thing for Saints I guess lol

Thanks for review, I wanna know if it's better than OF 1910, Trails End 10 year, Wilderness Trail BiB or Rare Breed?
I picked one up last February because it looked really interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed the bottle. Haven’t had another one since & it seems like the price has already went up. 🙃
Glad you enjoyed it! Wow, didnt know the price changed. Crazy. Cheers!

I don’t have the single barrel but the other two are very good. Great review!
Thanks so much, James!! Also, our email is theaveragedrinker at gmail!
Still haven't seen it in southern California or Lake Havasu, but I'm looking forward to trying it at some point. Thanks for the review Dara. Cheers
Thanks so much for watching, Brad! Hope you enjoy them if you do find them! Cheers!
Those twist top’s always throw me off. Don’t believe I’ve seen these in my area but they are on my radar. Thanks for sharing.
Great comparison review. Digging the red wheat one. Need to try the SIB version.
Thanks so much for watching, Dave! I def. like the red wheat, it surprised me! Cheers!
Haven't had the single barrels, but the soft red wheat is rebuy territory. BIB is not considering michters is 40 bucks too
I loved the white bottle. Very creamy and delicious.
So glad you loved it! Cheers! Thanks for watching!
Your voice reminds me of Goldie Hawn at your age😊
Wow! You're the second person who has told me that! I will take it as a compliment. Thanks so much for watching! Cheers!

Got tricked into buying a Detroit distilling Co bottle by a rep when I had ben holiday in my hand at the store. Wish I stook to my gut lol
Ah dang!! I’ve never heard of Detroit distilling.
@@TheAverageDrinker they are in Detroit and the rep said 10k for a barrel lol
@nickwinton there stuff is way overpriced
It's ok...shouldn't be more than 35 though
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I definitely think that would be a better price. Cheers!
What part of missouri are you guys from? Their cask strength single barrell is really good. Like really good.
Im from the Lake of the Ozarks area and Bill is from the St Louis area. Cheers!
@TheAverageDrinker Ahh. Ok. Im from Kansas City. About 50 minutes from their distillery. It's great to tour
You are the Best drinker!!!
Is it worth it? At 25-30 bucks maybe.
I have the bib and it’s okay nothing special but okay
I tend to feel that way, also. I think it’s fine but nothing over the top amazing.
it's good. but I think Its a tad over priced
Wish I watched this video 24 hrs ago - bought the 6yr BIB on a whim, and concur it’s low value against bottles in the $50-60 range - HARD PASS
Both the BiB's are solid ! Price is decent & for a craft farm to distillate I can get behind it 100%
Prices are getting crazy....been passing on it. My record with hyped bottles have been pretty poor. Work too hard for my money.
I love how my name is always covered up by the insert

That's a---- ' screw top' Sorry 🙏 l'm a nerd 🤓
They are overhyped for sure but Good to Good+ is a good characterization of these from the ones I've had.
As a Missouri native im guessing you or your husband, maybe both, went to or lived in Columbia.
Bill went to Mizzou and I went to K-State. Bill grew up in the St Louis area and I grew up in the Lake of the Ozarks area. Cheers!
